Re:A week?
Indeed, it's often hard to be able to purchase what you want out here in a timely manner.
A perfect example is Dollhouse. I simply can't buy it here. EzyDVD has had this up for a few years now: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/DVD/dollhouse-joss-whedons-season-1/dp/807893. JBHifi (one of our main DVD/Music retailers) hasn't got a release date. Sanity ( http://www.sanity.com.au/Search.aspx?sanquery=dollhouse ) doesn't have it. I can buy it via Fishbowl ( http://www.fishpond.com.au/Movies/Dollhouse-Season-2-Eliza-Dushku/5039036044707 ) but guess what, it is simply the US - Region 2 - version that I need a multi-region DVD to play. That's a show that aired in 2009 for goodness sake! I enjoyed it, I want to give the studios money for it, yet I can't find a decent way to do it - businesses that generally make it hard for their customers to get their goods generally don't stay in business.

Re:hrm
That's not always true. I love a good show, and I do often borrow shows to watch. I do want to become a customer - and my very extensive DVD collection backs that statement up. However, when products aren't available here (such as Dollhouse even though it came out three years ago!) I will find other means of watching them. When it comes out, I will happily go out and buy it. Why? You ask?
Because as someone who enjoys watching good entertainment, the only way that I can, as a consumer, encourage the folks that makes what I call good entertainment keep making good entertainment is to let them profit from it.
I am not interested in reality TV. I am not interested in watching soaps or cooking shows. I am however interested in watching a show with a good storyline, good characters and see them develop over time and improve as people - albeit fake TV show people. If I find a product made by media companies that I enjoy, I speak with the only voice that they hear. My money, and I do it gladly. If by spending a few dollars on a TV series I can encourage more of that show, or type of show to be made, then I do it gladly - for there is benefit to me.

About bloody time
So what was the hold up? They wanted to try to secure Sony's agreement to supply Australians with their music?
The Seven Network has said it will start distributing popular television shows such as Dancing with the Stars to the Internet and portable devices by mid-2006.
That's good to hear (not that particular show, but that australian shows will be uploaded), but do we get American shows, and if so, when do we get them? American shows are often delayed in Australia, with some episodes merely not shown at all (or shown out of order), while entire seasons can just not be shown at all (we never got Enterprise Season 4, the best bloody season of the lot and it wasn't aired). We also have to put up with sci-fi shows being stopped mid-season for rubbish like this.
It's better for people to just wait for the season to be released on DVD half the time (although not only do we get those delayed, we get shafted with those as well compared with the American one.
If Apple can offer American shows to Australians at the same time as they offer it to Americans, they'll find a market ready and primed for them. Heck, if it weren't for the small screen size I'd include myself in those who would readily leap at the chance to buy the shows from Apple. Unfortunately I can just see the government and/or television companies trying to stop Apple :( -

Re:Super Box Set? YES
Here's the proof
These guys won't ship outside of Australia, but the "super box set" exists.

Release dates not new
These have been advertised (here in Oz at least) for a while now.
Link shows box/cover art.

In Australia we only get 9 DVDs
Not only don't we know what the price will be, we get jipped on one DVD.
9 DVD box set, that's laughable.
Not only do we lose half the special features on the good movies, we lose 'em on the bad ones aswell.

Re:Insensitive Clod
According to EzyDVD, it will be available on 4 August 2004.
If you can't wait that long, I recommend getting the UK edition (it's coded for region 2 and 4, so it will probably be identical to the local release)

Farscape (and others) in Australia
Oddly enough, in Australia it is possible to get whole-season box sets of Farscape for around $AUS 125 (about $US 80) - there are only 4 or 6 discs in the set (can't remember now, and it's at home). Of course, they're Region 4, you'd need to have a multi-region player to see them. Places like Atlantic DVD and EZY DVD ship internationally.
(as if it wasn't obvious, when DVD region-encoding got created, all the major countries were assigned, then Region 4 was created as the "Arse End of the World" zone. There are far fewer releases in R4 than for the other zones. Australians (and probably New Zealanders) pretty much have to have multi-region players.)

Re:Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Mind bending - the US hasn't released it, but we've already got it in Australia. There's a first.
Here's Amazon, but it's obviously not out yet.
Here's EzyDVD, a site in Australia. The only problems as far as you're concerned are that it's PAL and Region 4, so if you haven't got an unlocked multisystem TV / DVD player, you're no better off. It'll cost you around $15US at current exchange rates to buy it and ship it.
