What's conservative? Crime? Debt? Lying? Violence?
I agree with the sense of what you said. However, I think it is not useful to use the terms "liberal" and "conservative". They no longer have significant meaning because those who want government corruption have been pretending that they have a legitimate political view, and calling that view "conservative".
Check out the government debt to see who is conserving the quality of government. The Bush administration is borrowing more money than any entity has borrowed in the history of the world.
Is dishonesty and violence "conservative"?
Is breaking the law "conservative"? Bush and Cheney are the most arrested U.S. president and vice-president in history. George W. Bush was arrested once for the crime of DUI and Dick Cheney twice:
George W. Bush DUI, 1st record of arrest
George W. Bush DUI, 2nd record of arrest
George W. Bush was arrested 2 other times in his life, also, for stunts that were not something a sober person would find interesting.
Dick Cheney DUI, record of 1st arrest
Dick Cheney DUI, record of 2nd arrest

First, cause problems. Then "fix" them.
The problems with terrorists were created by the U.S. government. Now the government is taking away our rights, using terrorists as an excuse.
It's an uphappy time for someone who loves the U.S. as much as I do.

How to analyze violence.
I always like a good joke. But your joke wasn't very funny, and I feel uncomfortable with so many jokes about something that should be taken seriously. It seems to me that there is too much joking about this subject and not enough seriousness.
If you want the violence and the degradation of the U.S. lifestyle to stop, study the situation carefully. Below is background information you need to know to understand the Washington Post article referenced in the Slashdot story. You could gather this information yourself, but people who joke easily about this kind of thing generally don't take the time:
The SITE Institute supplied information for the Washington Post article. SITE stands for "Search for International Terrorist Entities". SITE Institute provides examples of terrorist web sites. One of them, PalestinianInfo.net, published this photograph: Photo of the day. The caption says, "Palestinian children walk on the rubble of a Palestinian house that was demolished by Israeli occupation authorities, in the east Jerusalem neighbourhood of A-tur July 5, 2005. According to the Israeli authorities, the house was demolished due to a lack of permits." It seems that the issue might not be completely one-sided.
The Arab "terrorists" believe they are fighting a war, and that violence is a solution to social problems. The U.S. government believes it is fighting a war, and that violence is a solution to social problems. I'm not saying those groups have anything else in common, just that they share two beliefs in common.
If your government chooses killing as policy, expect others to choose the same. The U.S. government began killing Arabs and Muslims and corrupting their governments long before most Arabs and Muslims thought about the United States. None of the violence was secret. It was in the newspapers and in magazines and on TV, but not in enough detail that U.S. citizens could understand the implications. I remember reading that the U.S. government overthrew a democratically elected president of Iran (Mossadegh) because he wanted his country to share more of the profits of U.S. and British oil companies doing business in Iran. The U.S. government put a weak man in power, the Shah of Iran, who became very violent toward his own citizens. Eventually, people in Iran overthrew the Shah. The U.S. government's actions de-stabilized the country and encouraged the violence that came after. For more information, see the short article, To understand the present conflict, consider the past.
As of 2005-08-08, 04:24 AM PDT, the SITE Institute says these are other terrorist web sites: http://www.kataebaqsa1.com/, http://www.moqawama.net/, and http://www.qudsway.com/. The only way you can know directly what they say in Arabic is to read Arabic. Be careful about accepting what someone else says they say. You need to be able to trust that the translator is not politically involved.
The Washington Post article says, "Hampered by the nature of the Internet itself, the government has proven ineffective at blocking or even hindering significantly this vast online presence." This sentence worries me. It seems to justify U.S. government interference with free speech. It's not clear that preventing open speech for those who disagree with the policies of the U.S. government is a sensible idea. It seems likely that knowing what they are saying is important; we don't want -
Most U.S. citizens have not been paying attention.
It's terrible that anyone needs a citation for this. The U.S. government has been a major killer, and most U.S. citizens have not been paying attention.
Here's a short article: History surrounding the U.S. war with Iraq: Four short stories.
Recently I was talking with someone from another country. When I said that the U.S. government had killed 3,000,000 since the end of the Second World War, he said, "11,000,000". He's right. The lower figure includes just those killed directly by the U.S. government. The higher figure includes people who died because of indirect events caused by the U.S. government. For example, the U.S. government (not the people) bombed Cambodia. It is credibly estimated that the violence that happened after caused the deaths of millions of people.
Violence breeds violence, as the U.S. government's present war in Iraq demonstrates once again.
If your government chooses killing as policy, expect others to choose the same.
If you support dishonesty and violence, don't say you are Christian. -
That's even more shocking!!!
That's even more shocking!!!
"Christians" are so arrogant that they believe they can kill anyone they like, and their killing should not be considered.
The "Christian" U.S. has supported a government that has killed perhaps 3,000,000 people since the end of the Second World War. None of those people threatened the United States.
The "Christians" in the U.S. think these people and their families and friends don't matter: Iraqi Civilian Body Count.
Osama bin Laden said that he attacked solely because of the U.S. government support for killing Arabs. Is that true? Did the U.S. government kill Arabs? Yes.
If your gov't chooses killing as policy, expect others to choose the same.
I'm against violence. In my opinion, violence is caused by mental illness, and has nothing to do with religion.
Many fundamentalist "Christians" believe that the "end time" is near. They believe that during the approach of the "end time", the Jews will have power over all of the region around Israel. Then they believe Jews will either die or be converted to Christianity.
Wait, there's more: The Jews support the Christian violence because they want U.S. citizens to be involved in "defense" of Israel. That reduces the cost to them. The Israelis believe that, this time, the Christians won't really kill them. That's in spite of the fact that, during the Second World War, "Christians" killed half of the Jews in the entire world. (At present, there are about 14,000,000 Jews in the entire world. More Jews live in New York than live in Israel.)
Read all about it: Zion's Christian Soldiers
Again, if your gov't chooses killing as policy, expect others to choose the same. -
There is corruption in other areas, too.
Those who want corruption want stupid patents so they can scare others away from working in their area of technology. They don't care if they sometimes lose a few court cases due to stupidly weak patents. In general, taking something to court is so expensive that the corrupters win just because of the threat.
A major way those who want corruption destroy government effectiveness is by starving the agencies of operating funds. That's what happened to the patent office. The corrupters won't allow hiring of enough people to do the job well.
For a discussion of starving the SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, regulates the stock exchange), see this article: Keeping the SEC on a Starvation Diet. The corrupters don't want their stock manipulations discovered. They want more of this: Enron fraud, this: WorldCom fraud and this: Tyco fraud.
They are corrupting the IRS (U.S. Internal Revenue Service, collects taxes), too. The corrupters definitely do NOT want their tax returns to be audited, so they arrange that there is not enough money for audits: Bush Request for IRS Not Enough, Report Says
They are corrupting the courts. Those who want corruption spend huge amounts to get lazy judges elected, and work for the defeat of judges who do a good job.
Another major way that corruption of the courts is accomplished by not giving the courts enough money to operate. A 2003-06-24 op-ed article by Charles Williamson, then president of the Oregon State Bar, in The Oregonian, the Northwest's largest newspaper, said, "The crippling loss of nearly one-third of their staff have left our courts unable to hear criminal cases such as car theft, shoplifting, prostitution, fraud and identity theft."
The Bush administration has been appointing heads of government agencies who reduce the role of those agencies. After they destroy the effectiveness of the agencies, they go back to running their businesses, and the corruption gives them more profit.
The book Other People's Money discusses corporate corruption. It's excellent. Secrets and Lies: Operation "Iraqi Freedom" and After: A Prelude to the Fall of U.S. Power in the Middle East?, by Dilip Hiro is an excellent book about the corruption that led to the most recent U.S.-Iraq war.
The corruption is extremely widespread. The books mentioned above and the 3 movies and 34 books reviewed in this article are not enough to tell the story: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government.
In general, most Americans don't want to know how corrupt their government has become. Most don't read books. The TV news they watch is heavily influenced by the corrupters. For example, GE, one of the largest sellers of weapons, owns NBC, one of the major ways Americans get their news. -
Probably this is just a trick by Merrill Lynch.
Probably this is just a trick by a Merrill Lynch publicist, who found a way to get free publicity. Or, maybe it is a way to distract people from some fraud involving the Taiwanese firm and Merrill Lynch.
Otherwise the story just doesn't make sense. To believe the story, Fubon cuts loss to NT$50 mil. in NT$8 bil. mistake, as it was written, you have to believe that the Taiwan firm hires inexperienced people, gives them little training, and does not review their large trades.
Do you really believe that a low-level employee spent a quarter billion dollars because of a keystroke error? In any case, the people who should know don't believe the story. Shares of "Fubon Securities' parent firm Fubon Financial Holding rose by 0.47%".
According to the U.S. government's SEC department, corruption of the media is not the only corruption from Merrill Lynch: SEC Charges Merrill Lynch, Four Merrill Lynch Executives with Aiding and Abetting Enron Accounting Fraud.
The U.S. government's Justice Department says, Three Top Former Merrill Lynch Executives Charged With Conspiracy, Obstruction Of Justice, Perjury In Enron Investigation.
There is general agreement that there has been no serious change in the U.S. government and big corporations like Merrill Lynch and Citibank. Apparently the only change is that they will be more careful in the future when they engage in deceptive practices. For an example of what has been written about this, see Iraq Could Produce Another Enron, by Nomi Prins. Ms. Prins wrote an excellent book about corporate and government corruption in the U.S., Other People's Money. At Powell's: Other People's Money.
Apparently most of what is written about the financial markets is fradulent in some way. Generally it fits into the category of "What we want you to think so that we can make more money". Employees and investors in the U.S. have lost billions of dollars due to fraud in the last few years.
The corruption is extremely widespread. Here are short reviews of 35 books and 3 movies about conflict of interest in the U.S. government: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government. (To those who think there is little or no corruption: If you can't give any example of a book or article you have read that supports your view, please consider not commenting this time.) -
Americans know little about U.S. Gov. activities.
Slashdot comments have made me aware of how little Americans know about the activities of their own government. Yet surprisingly those with little awareness often have extremely strong and angry opinions.
Michael Moore's information about the involvement of Saudis with the Bush family came from this book:
The Iron Triangle: Inside the secret world of The Carlyle Group by Dan Briody, Wiley, 2003, Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. Reviews: Powell's Barnes & Noble Amazon
With what don't you agree concerning this book? Do you doubt that both the rich Saudis and the Bush family have investments in oil and weapons companies? Michael Moore's movie showed network footage of George W. Bush and a Saudi holding hands. Do you doubt that Bush holds hands with Saudis? Then read these articles from The Christian Science Monitor and CBS News. The Bush family calls one of the Saudis "Bandar Bush", and believes that he is their friend; that's completely untrue of course. Fifteen of the 18 attackers of the 9/11 bombings were Saudis, and some rich Saudis have supported al Qaeda.
Unocal, and many other oil companies, want to build a pipeline across Afghanistan, because that is the shortest route from rich oil fields to Pakistan and the ocean, with the exception of through unsafe Iran. Do you doubt this?
Notice: The links to the book are tied to my accounts with the booksellers. If you buy the book and don't want me to have a commission, do a search for the book to get a link that is not connected with me. After a year, I have made exactly $0.00 from these arrangements. I spent months reading the books and writing short reviews of them for my article Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government. -
The corruption is extremely widespread.
It's all part of a wider corruption. Large corrupters spend huge amounts to get lazy judges elected, and work for the defeat of judges who do a good job.
Part of the way corruption of the courts is accomplished by not giving the courts enough money to operate.
The corruption of the patent office is part of the same thing. Large corrupt corporations want stupid patents because they can scare others away from coming close to their technology. They don't care if they lose a few court cases. Taking something to court is so expensive that they win just because of the threat.
The book Other People's Money discusses corporate corruption. It's excellent.
35 Books and 3 movies say the Bush administration is the most corrupt the U.S. has ever had: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government.
Many Americans don't want to know that their government has become corrupt, so you can expect hostile comments if you try to talk about corruption. -
Corrupt, but U.S. citizens don't want to know.
I didn't have time to translate the entire article to English, due to a problem called work.
Here is my opinion about U.S. government corruption. It is a review of 35 books from respected publishers and 3 movies: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government.
My understanding is that the U.S. government is extremely corrupt, but most U.S. citizens just don't want to know. They've been told for so long that theirs is the best country in the world that they have difficulty believing otherwise.
The U.S. government hides its corruption. For example, see this article: History surrounding the U.S. war with Iraq: Four short stories.
The present terrorism was caused by U.S. government support for violence against Arabs and others in the Middle East. Not surprisingly, there were people there who decided to fight violence with more violence. I think that violence is caused by mental illness, but it is easy to understand that Arabs don't like to be killed, and that some of them would decide to do to the U.S. what the U.S. government was doing to them.
I would be very interested to know how you view the information at this web site: U.S. Debt Clock. Do you say, "Oh, well, that's not real corruption. They are just stealing money?" Has the $7 trillion dollars borrowed made you richer? If it hasn't, where did the money go? It is a fact that people who were already rich got most of the money.
The U.S. government is stealing money from its own people and killing people in other countries. Can that somehow be considered moral?
See the Downing Street Memo. The U.S. government lied to the American people to justify its violence. Congressman like John Conyers are unhappy about that, even if you aren't.
The U.S. and British governments have a long history of destructive involvement in the mideast. Those who don't know that don't have the means to understand what is happening today. -

Programmers tend to notice lack of logic.
There are many people in the U.S. who say they are pro-Republican when they are actually just pro-anger or are "religious" in an extremist obsessive-thinking manner. Anyone who is logical enough to be a computer programmer is likely to notice their lack of logic.
There are many good Republicans. But the Re-money-cans are 100% corrupt. They are helping George W. Bush sell the U.S. government to whomever has the money: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government.
Background information: History surrounding the U.S. war with Iraq: Four short stories. The U.S. government declared war on Arabs long before there was Arab terrorism against the U.S.: New York Governor Pataki's statements are equivalent to a declaration of war.
The U.S. government is bankrupt. The value of the U.S. dollar is dropping fast because the Bush administration is rapidly borrowing money. Who is doing the borrowing? These people: U.S. Federal Deficit by Political Party. If you are a U.S. citizen, you owe $26,289.01, even if you are only 1 year old.
As Republican John McCain has said many times, campaign finance has corrupted the U.S. government.
I disagree with Senator McCain about Bolton, but at least McCain does not lie about the facts: "We all know that Mr. Bolton is perhaps not the world's most beloved manager, nor one to keep his temper entirely under wraps." McCain is a true Republican. -

This kind of law requires a huge amount of wisdom to write and implement. The U.S. government just does not have that ability at present. Instead, the government is being sold to whomever will pay the most: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government. -
Huge crimes are ignored.
Not completely behind the scenes: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government.
When corrupters do a big enough crime, it overwhelms people so much that they ignore it. There are entire books detailing Karl Rove's dishonest methods, but they don't get attention. -
The name is "Peter Mandelson", not Mandleson.
Slashdot editors can be so disgusting sometimes. The name is "Peter Mandelson", not Mandleson. BBC News Online's Nick Assinder looks at the turbulent career of Peter Mandelson. His "career had twice been dashed on the rocks of sleaze, ..."
Peter Mandelson is apparently the go-to guy in the EU when someone wants something illegal done: "Mr Mandelson had come under pressure to explain his involvment in the passport application of Srichand Hinduja, an Indian billionaire who, along with his brother Gopichand, appeared in court in connection with a 1986 arms dealing scandal."
Conflict of interest is extremely destructive of good government even when it is only the appearance of conflict of interest.
The U.S. government has become a conflict of interest machine: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government. -
Many senators are just conduits for corruption.
There are many, many senators and representatives who are just conduits for corruption. Most people in the U.S. are overwhelmed and just don't want to know how corrupt their government is.
I wrote a short article that discusses a small percentage of that corruption -- Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government -
The number of "members" is inflated.
Note that most "groups" have a very small number of "members". Also, the number of members is vastly inflated because of a trick. You must become a "member" to get information about where the next meeting will be held. There may be many, many groups with "members" who decided they had no interest in the group, and never visited the group online again, or did anything with the group.
How many people will pay $228 U.S. each year to try an idea of developing a group? The value of the U.S. dollar is dropping fast because the Bush administration is rapidly borrowing money, but the dollar is not worthless.
Would you pay $2,280 over ten years to find other people in your area with an interest in a special breed of cats, for example? Especially when you never attract more than 4 people, and some of them are not very interested?
Also, some groups may have fake members entered by organizers attempting to attract people by making it seem that there is more interest than there really is. I visited one group that showed photos of two very beautiful women who said they were enthusiastic about the group. However, neither of them visited the group again, according to their statistics. A $228 yearly fee makes dishonesty more likely.
A web site for meetings is a good idea, but we need a non-adversarial method of making that happen.
This always happens with closed-source, proprietary solutions. Sooner or later the proprietor becomes abusive. -
What about these telephone wires?
Could you explain these telephone wires running from building to building in Buenos Aires?
Also, the U.S. government is much worse than you are saying: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government.
How many Iraqis has the Argentine government killed? None, right? How many Vietnamese has the Argentine government killed? None, right? The U.S. government killed 2,000,000. Guess how many Vietnamese directly threatened the U.S. at the time? None. -
U.S. government has been an instigator of violence
"... force used to put a stop to someone else's violence is a perfectly rational use of our military."
Think about it. The paychecks of the military and secret agencies depend on violence. When there is more violence, there are more promotions and raises and importance.
The U.S. government has been, since the end of the Second World War, an instigator of violence, not a force for less violence.
The outcome of the Iraq war has not been that Iraq is a less violent nation. The outcome has been that the profit from Iraqi oil goes to U.S. companies, and not Iraqis.
The U.S. government encouraged Saddam's violence. For example, see History surrounding the U.S. war with Iraq: Four short stories. -
Collor is a small-time thief compared to Bush.
I agree about Collor de Mello. But he is a small-time thief compared to Reagan and both Bush presidents. George W. Bush has borrowed trillions that have gone into the pockets of his friends, and that U.S. taxpayers are expected to pay back.
Those who want corruption in the U.S. government want the government to borrow. The corrupters find ways to transfer the money to themselves. -

Conditions in the U.S. are worse than you say.
Conditions in the U.S. are worse than you are saying. The bottom and middle parts of the U.S. government often function well, but the top part of the government is thoroughly corrupted by conflict of interest.
U.S. citizens often live in a mental fantasy land in which they view themselves as the best, and cannot hear anything else. Politicians manipulate this. Look at most of the replies to your comment. Most involve some illogical trick to avoid examining the problems. Many U.S. citizens believe that they are so superior that it is entirely okay that their government's foreign policy depends on killing people to solve problems, rather than actually solving the problems.
The U.S. government has fought 24 wars since World War II. The system of violence works by creating fear so rich people can profit.
The U.S. government is being sold to anyone who has the money. Huge amounts of money are being borrowed and transferred to the pockets of those in power. The U.S. government is now far more in debt than ever before: Debt Clock. If you are a U.S. citizen, you are expected to pay. Those who want corruption in the U.S. government want the government to borrow. The corrupters find ways to transfer the money to their pockets.
The origin of the present problems was in the 40s and 50s, when U.S. government leaders made two decisions. It is likely that those in power then did not understand that their decisions would eventually corrupt the entire government. At the time, the decisions seemed logical.
First, the government decided that it could act in other countries in secret. Second, the U.S. government decided it could act in secret to protect U.S. businesses in other countries.
What probably no one realized then was how much that would come to be a corrupting influence on the government. Probably no one realized then how much additional profit big multinational businesses could make by arranging, in secret, for U.S. taxpayers to pay for the security arrangements needed by U.S. multinational businesses.
Soon huge businesses were arguing that the U.S. government should subvert democratically elected leaders, as the government did in Iran in 1953. Soon U.S. businesses would arrange unfair contracts with corrupt leaders, and when there was a protest, call for U.S. government intervention in the name of patriotism.
That's partly how we got to the present situation, where two men, whose family and business associates and friends have extensive investments in global oil businesses, are president and vice-president of the entire U.S. government, even though there is conflict of interest in such an arrangement. -

No one knows the extent of Microsoft aggression.
You said, "Microsoft has always been extremely aggressive against competitors..."
That's true, and no one should think they know the extent of the aggressiveness. I came to that conclusion after trying to document some of the aggression in my article, Windows XP Shows the Direction Microsoft is Going.
What made DOS dominant in the later years? Microsoft deliberately allowed piracy. That's my conclusion and opinion after considerable study of the matter.
Microsoft created a 2-tier market that squeezed out competitors. You could buy DOS for a lot of money. Then, you could buy DOS for very little money, if you would accept a pirated version. Products that competed honestly in the market could not sell cheaper than the widely pirated DOS, and they disappeared. (Most people cannot look at a manual and see that it has obviously been reproduced from a photocopied original rather than typesetting; most people did not know the copies were pirated.)
One day in the years of DOS, I got irritated at this, and decided to protest. They've closed the loophole now, but back then you could call Microsoft and get the phone number of their legal department. I told the woman that answered that my closest 10 distributors were all selling pirated copies of DOS. The woman was very interested. She sounded young and neither of us realized the implications of what we were doing. Once she had accepted my complaint, the information was inside the company, and they had to go ahead with a court case. I participated as a witness against the most open of the pirates, and Microsoft won.
If you were a dealer back then, you either felt that you were taking a huge risk selling illegal copies of DOS, or you could not compete with other resellers. So, it made sense that Microsoft and I were temporarily on the same side of an issue.
Microsoft does the same thing with Microsoft Office, in my opinion. I sold computers only to businesses, strictly legally. But once a friend asked me for help with buying a computer, and we went to what seemed to be the best retail seller in town. We bought a nice computer, and then the salesman offered me Microsoft Office for $50. So, there was Corel, trying to sell Word Perfect for a reasonable price, and they were being undercut by Microsoft's 2-tier market.
Nothing has changed, apparently. I got perhaps 100 spam email messages today, and a large number of them offer Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office for under a hundred dollars. It's not a big secret. (Anyone who is not getting enough Microsoft software piracy offers, just post your email address somewhere on the internet.)
It's not hard to know who is pirating, because each message contains information about how to find the seller. For example, "Totally legal Microsoft for a tenth of the price WINDOWS X'P Pro + OFFICE X.P Pro - 80 Dollars Contact: http://cork.perfect-oemcds.biz." Microsoft Office is dominant because Microsoft apparently takes a relaxed attitude toward stopping pirates.
That's the later years. What made Microsoft dominant in the early years? Here are my observations and conclusions and opinions:
Back then, IBM executives did not know how to type. They had secretaries for that. IBM was then on the way down. (In later years it was resurrected.) IBM executives did not want to create a mess in their brains by remembering actual technical facts. That's a short way of depicting the IBM culture back then.
IBM executives went to see the then-dominant OS seller Digital Research to arrange an OS for the IBM PC. When they arrived the DR CEO had decided to fly his private plane instead, and his wife was less than respectful. Then the executives went to Microsoft, and Microsoft licensed DOS rather than selling it. Back then the IBM PC was not a product an IBM manager wanted on his resume. A product that would only be used by secretaries probably didn't seem important. -
The resulting problems are called "Blowback".
Exactly. That extreme disrespect for another government caused many of the problems that came later: History surrounding the U.S. war with Iraq: Four short stories.
The U.S. government's CIA calls the problems caused by their involvement, "blowback". United States taxpayers pay for both the initial involvement and the blowback. -
Extreme conflict of interest in the US government
Conflict of Interest: Two men, whose family and business associates and friends have extensive investments in global oil businesses, are president and vice-president of the entire U.S. government.
Using dishonest means, these men convinced U.S. taxpayers to pay for killing people in Iraq. What has been accomplished there? The killing under Saddam was less than the killing under George Bush.
One thing that has been accomplished, however, is that the profit from oil contracts involving Iraq has been shifted from Saddam to U.S. companies. This was accomplished while minimizing the support for U.S. troops.

It seems that there is always some uninformed person who posts comments to stories like this who doesn't realize that both U.S. President George W. Bush and U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney were both active alcoholics. So, here are some of their arrest records:
