Re:Nothing new
They have it now, it'll take an act of Congress to get rid of it.
Or an act of the courts protecting the constitutional rights of the people.
Hahahahahaha!!!! I'll have to remember that one the next time I need a good laugh. Have you ever considered doing stand up? Since we lost GC, somethings been missing in the world.

Re:Sad :(Unconfirmed but sent to me as a museing credited to George shortly after his wife died. It speaks to me in his style...I like to think it was his.
Most definitely not Carlin's words (the phrase "and pray too seldom" should've been a dead giveaway).

Re:Sad :(
Carlin never wrote that essay, and in fact referred to it as "a sappy piece of shit."

Re:This poll doesn't surprise me
Pardon my hypocrisy about not fanning the flames, but this post could use some levity on the topic, courtesy of an admired comedian, George Carlin...enjoy.

Insightful?
Why is this modded up as "insightful"?
Well, it's a quote from a George Carlin stand-up comedy bit, and he usually rides the line between insightful and funny...

Re:Paul Graham Essay
Or George Carlin's "Filhty Words" bit, which got him arrested but was also overturned by the Supreme Court

A wise man once said...
"Save the Earth??? The Earth is fine! The people are f**ked." - George Carlin
I don't understand why scientists insist on saying the Earth is in danger. The Earth doesn't care, it's a rock. Maybe if they start saying The Human Race is in "serious, imminent, unavoidable danger" people might pay attention.
No, probably not. -
Re:Funny..
His running mate? Lewis Black
YES! Funny, I've had the same discussion here with some folks. Everything about his acting could be, well, 100% acting (and he doesn't believe a word he says).. but it's really hard to carry that off all the time. You have to feel for what you act sometimes (especially for improv), so you get a sense he's not some dogma-ridden liberal. He even packages his views in the form of comedy, because we all know conservatives have a monopoly on unbiased "news" ;-)
For the first term, I think it would be better to have Jon Stewart as running mate to... George Carlin!
They'd get my vote. We may as well have our kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.
This may come sooner than you think. Key Republicans are discussing changing the Constitution to allow people not born in the USA to run for President. This has nothing to do with filthy campaign money being filtered into our country by certain countries of course (like they'd repeal it after Arnie is elected??).
Frankly, seriously proposing this kind of change smells of borderline treason. Funny how the far-right used to be nationalistic, and now they advocate "global" ideas, as all the American companies become more global (and LESS American)

Re:Yes, yes, yes, Apple's dying, blah blah blahActually, a number of those are in George Carlin's "Braindroppings" book, some pretty close to verbatim. (not 100% sure that Steven Wright hasn't said them as well, mind you)
On his web page, here, Carlin has a bit about internet forwards/sites which misattribute quotations and such. Apparently it's quite rampant.

Re:Get a leash...
I guess I can't support America's paranoia about its own sexuality.
Or utter lack thereof. I swear George Carlin's comedy routine about the "pussification of America" is becoming more and more true everyday. How did my country go from a bunch of billy-badasses to a bunch of snively, whining, bitching, and moaning candy-asses that they are today? Man this sucks.

.Luckily, a hero from the future has come to the past, obtained a job at IBM, and created uServ. Slashdot, you have met your match.

Re:Write to your Representative!
From the: Path-of-least-resistance Dept.
In the words of George Carlin, I don't think you have the right to complain if you vote. If you vote and elect a guy in, you were the one who did it, shut up and go with it. If you voted and the other guy got in, then you picked the loser. Congrats. If you don't vote at all, then you can complain about anything. Not that it matters anymore nowadays if you vote or not. I vote, but only out of curiosity and a sense of "playing the game" along with a lot of other Americans. Voting doesn't really do much in the long run at large levels...only at small gov't levels does your vote really count. (thank you, electoral college)
Fact is, goverment will always try to step on the rights of good, decent ppl like you and me, and we will always fight to keep them in check. It's a balancing act more than anything. If either side got leeway, we'd have havoc. (too many rights is just as bad as too few)
So join the game! Vote today.
