Well, for starters, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

The point at which a different sort of revolution is a viable option is when the rank-and-file military decide to protect the citizens from their government. That's part of what happened in 1775 - the militias and the like were in theory part of the British military. It's what happened in Egypt - when Mubarak sent in the army to try to regain control of Cairo, the army decided to protect the protesters from the police. Probably relevant here is that a significant number of Occupy protesters are either military on leave or recently discharged veterans (including Scott Olsen, severely injured by police in Oakland).

The astronauts do not go to do science or explore, robots can do that better more reliably, cheaper, and we don't need to get them back, astronauts go to experience it ...

And you don't think we could direct our limited resources to something more useful than allowing a handful of people to have a really neat experience? I can think of several really neat experiences I'd like to have, and as poet I think I could convey them to others better than Armstrong or Aldrin -- can I get billions in federal funding? If it's all about "experience" than let's put the manned space program under the direction of the National Endowment for the Arts, where it can compete for funding with other "inspirational" activities.

The U.S. is stuck in two wars and has mounting debt; the whole world is in an immediate financial crisis, and a long-term ecological crisis. Letting a couple of privileged people go on a trip to the moon is not the best use of our collective resources.

And to anybody still complaining about India spending money on its space mission when 500 million people are in poverty, you are not the first.

The trick is to just realize that people are capable of revolts. So when oil hits a stable 9 dollars a gallon you'll start seeing heads role.

Yeah, I think GSH was saying the revolution doesn't have anything to do with pop culture. That it's going to be something that happens largely outside the view of mainstream media and mainstream people. (Sounds like a small revolution). In addition, I think GSH may have had more of a problem with white people than Trippi does.

First of all, nice rhyme. Don't know if it's original or not, but well done.

The same argument was made in 67, when they started to pour tons of money into the first moon landing, and continued for ages. There was a comic in Mad Magazine, from roughly 1972.

It leaves a telltale header "-----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-----"

This makes it very easy to find encrypted messages as you can apply a simple filter.

One of the benefits of steganography is that is looks like a JPG file being emailed or a JPG(PNG) sitting there on a website. Without very special software there is no easy way of even knowing that the picture of grandpa on the tractor is anything but a picture of grandpa on the tractor.

When I was playing with it, I would encrypt the text using PGP then embed it in a image using JSteg. It was fun but not particularly useful since nothing I had to say or email was worth anything to anyone important. Having said that, should (when) the revolution comes it will not be televised, it will be stegged so I'm keeping those skills.

I sure do, because I read the GPL as requiring it.

In TiVo's case, people seem to go along with TiVo's claim that "the work" is the modified kernel which TiVo does provide source for.

I think "the work" is the whole box. What good does a modified kernel do without the apps on that box. Are the apps "merely aggregated" (GPL's exception for derivative works) with the kernel? Not in such a closed box (no "ls" to see those parts and these parts).

What's Linksys's "work?" Once again, I claim it's the whole access point/router. They don't sell the kernel binary by itself and firmware updates are distributed with GPL and proprietary code in one lump (maybe not statically linked, but I don't think that's a reasonable exception).
