For lawyers, by lawyers
Interesting situation. Actually I write and I have rarely done some video content, and also assisted some video content producers.
On the lines of the fourth group, it's an "if things are done right" situation still. In the situation you described, there is no safe harbor involved. If such a thing were posted on YouTube, for example, and they were taking payment via PayPal, YouTube is not the proper target. Rather, file suit and discovery against the entity that is directly accepting/charging money for the material. It's not a trivial matter. The material needs to be registered with the copyright office and such, which for some reason, even a lot of prolific smaller creators rarely do. Yes, there are things that can throw a wrench in the plans (out of country thieves), but historically I've had compatriots that were successfully making a living off nothing but lawsuit revenue from people who stole their otherwise-free work to sell.
I'm not certain what causes discrepancies in YouTube experiences. Really, we can only give anecdotal information. What we claim happened to us, or to somebody we know. So if we take it on good faith...
In general, a properly-filed DMCA takedown on YouTube will "officially" result in a removal of the infringing content within 72 business hours. In my experience, a perfectly-formatted DMCA takedown that successfully goes through the automated system will result in a removal within about 36 business hours and often within five. From personal experience (and again, anecdotal, so you'll just have to trust me or not as you see fit), the vast majority - or possibly all - of people I've spoken to who have not had success with takedowns encounter problems because they don't do it right. Mind you I don't believe that something made "By lawyers, for lawyers" is exactly easy to do right anyway. If I polled ten random people and said "Follow these directions and create a takedown notice", I'd expect zero of the resulting notices to be fully correct. The takedown has a very specific format, headers should be included, and information should be precise and verifiable. If a human needs to go into it to figure out the data, it slows stuff down.
If you can qualify for Content ID, that's generally the best. That system is automated and takes things down proactively, or allows you to monetize or fully-remove things that it discovers.
In general though, I've given up on giving advice. There's upsides and downsides to all the things and they are decidedly complicated. For a lot of people, the cost of registering pieces can exceed the revenue for example, but that registration can be necessary for certain actions.
For your situation specifically, I'd suggest looking at content type (Exclusive rights or no? Registered if so? Is it cost effective to do so? - Any "no"s? Then it might be an issue) and the filing process (Ducks. Every quacker in a row precisely. Zero quack-stacks.) because if filed "properly", no human ever looks at it and it's 100% automated, so you can't get a rep phoning it in. Start at this page on protecting your copyright on YouTube and remember that the initial learning is the hard part.
Aside from personal experiences and advice and such, really the main article seems to be more pointing to the fact that the big labels are trying to capitalize on experiences like yours to drum up support despite not really being on your side at all. They want to throw out the baby with the bathwater. For example, if YouTube lost Safe Harbor, chances are pretty high that you would never be able to put videos there. Nor would most of anybody else. YouTube would likely cease to exist, as would all of the other video sharing sites, because the moment somebody posts something that somebody decides is infringing, YouTube/Google get sued over it. It's not worth the risk, so, no more YouTube at all and every place that does accept video will likely require you to pay them to post your video there because if you post something bad, they get in trouble for it.

Everyone else doesn it
So why would Microsoft not make its own skin for Android? It's not merely trivial, but it's already been done, almost. Or maybe closer. Or even by somebody else.

Re:Ignorance of the law is no excuse
Google "Georgia OCGA" and the first link that comes up is "LexisNexis(r) Custom Solution: Georgia Code Research Tool". Click it and a "Code of Georgia - Free Public Access" page comes up. Click "I Agree" and you get complete access to the Georgia Code for free. The opinion mentions that Lexis/Nexis is obligated to maintain this free site.
One might argue about the annotations being missing but the opinion shows precedent for those being copyrightable, even for laws.

Re: You may not like this
Ok, if it is a known practice, cite it.
Originalism. It's not hard to find.
Find me some supreme court decisions that disregarded amendments in favor of what the Founders thought. Or appeals court decisions. Or circuit court. Or traffic court.
Oh, you want to see it in an American legal context? Most especially you'll want to look at the criticism of the Dred Scott decision for the most infamous example.
More recently, well, there other sources of information as to the patterns and practices of your average self-proclaimed originalists.
It's a bankrupt and destitute moral philosophy.

Youtube already has a fix for this problem. Just use their Content ID sytem
that lets you decide how to deal with other people using your music. You can block, mute, or monetize the infringing video.

Re:"Green" technologies aren't sufficient.
Bullshit. Nuclear power is economically unsustainable without direct government intervention and subsidy.
That's mostly because of all the NIMBYs who manage to add 20 years of delay to any nuclear power construction job.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the economics of nuclear.
https://encrypted.google.com/s...
This is why nuclear power stations should be built by governments - because they don't have to use the profits to pay back venture capitalists who invested billions 25 years ago on the promise of a 10000% return on their money (and that's conservative - 25 years at 20% interest - they probably ask for more than that).

When you return items purchased with an EBT card, it's just the same as a purchase made with a credit or debt card: The funds are added back to the account used to purchase the item. Cash is not an option.
Cash is an option for my credit/debit card. So why wouldn't it be an option for EBT? Why would the merchant even care?
2. EBT cannot be used to buy gift cards. Period.

Re:Where's the news?
Seriously though, how can a golf ball have 11 patents on it?
Let me help you with that.
https://www.google.com/patents... -
Re:Where's the news?
It looks like Titleist has 44 patents on their Pro V1 golf balls. These patents range from design to materials to manufacturing.
For example, the first patent in the list, 6013330, relates to UV curable inks and their application onto spherical surfaces such as golf balls. Reading the first page of the patent may give you a sense of the complexity of high-speed, production printing on a curved surface in a durable manner.
If you look at the patents you will notice that many of them are related to manufacturing processes. 9174088, for example, is a process for cleaning the seam created when the golf ball is molded in a way that allows the dimple pattern to be consistent across the seam.
There are a ton of BS patents out there and some of Titleist's may fall into that category. But it's not hard to imagine a lot of complexity goes into designing and manufacturing a golf ball. The company started in 1932 because of a golfer's frustration with the then state-of-the-art golf balls.

Re:Photos and videos?
She will take about 20 photos of the exact same shot from the exact same angle to try and get the best picture and not delete a single one.
I've done that but usually with a tripod mounted camera but there it isn't to pick the best one. When I do that I am planning on combining them and doing things like focus stacking, HDR, or super resolution photography or a combination of them. For film I will also scan the negatives multiple times as well and combine them to reduce the noise and also produce images closer to the advertised resolution of the film scanner than can otherwise be achieved. Yes I have some photographs where I am getting 60-70 megapixels of actual data off of 35mm film but that requires having very fine film (50 speed Ilford B&W, 100 speed Kodak Ektar), a camera on a tripod, and the use of a high quality lens (my worst one diffraction wise is an f/4.5 500mm the best is an f/1.4 50mm one), and shooting with a wide open aperture. I love my full frame picture of Dome of the Rock that I took from on top of Mount of the Olives where I can clearly see the Islamic Calligraphy in the mosaic work on the outside with nice crisp lines.

Unity is a terrible interface for a generation of users who learnt that everything appears in windows. It is quite comfortable and at home for many people now used to the concepts introduced in tablets and smartphone. Not to mention that it makes far better use of wide horizontal monitors than an old UI ever did.
But really if someone is unable to cope with a change from Windows to Unity, they won't cope with the change to Gnome either (the menu is in the wrong place, and the task bar looks different). Really if you're that stuck you should use something like Chalet OS which is

Re:Machines replacing bank tellers?
Here in Europe it usually means skipping cash altogether with online banking and payment cards. Usually it's because of a national debit card standard organized by the banks, like BankAxept here in Norway or EC-card in Germany. This is the price list of one our banks via Google Translate, prices converted to USD:
One time installation/terminal fees, fixed/mobile: $489/241
Monthly payment fees, fixed/mobile: $61/$83
Transaction fees, per transaction $0.026 flatUse your card for a Big Mac? McDonald's is happy. Use it to buy a $1000 TV? The store is happy. Say you have a sale every 5 minutes, 10 hours a day, 6 days a week = ~25 days/month = 3000 sales total. That's $78 in processing fees + $61/83 = ~$150 total in operating costs for the whole month. Compare that to the expenses securing cash, transporting cash, keeping enough change and so on that they don't want and here it's yes please, use cards. And if the cash flows electronically, what do you need the local bank teller for? I just checked the stats for my purely online bank, 380k customers with 325 employees and 90% of the population do it online now.
Even the banks that do have branch offices now mostly train people to use the machines rather than process their deposits/bills and it's almost all retirees. Some banks have even started to put fees on the ATMs, because even maintaining and stocking them costs money even if there's no bank teller. With mobile pay now it's even BYOD, they don't even have to issue cards anymore. They're moving closer and closer to becoming a purely virtual organization that doesn't deal in anything but 0s and 1s. But that's okay, it's not like I really miss the days you were waiting in line at the counter.

Avoids DNSChangers in routers/IP settings & dns redirects (99.999% of ISP DNS != patched vs. it) + lightens DNS load & resolves faster from local system RAM!
* Via what u NATIVELY have built into the IP stack in FASTER kernelmode!

Re:Why not?
Of course first generation immigrants in the US (both illegal and legal) are significantly less likely to commit crimes (outside of illegal immigration in the case of illegal immigrants obviously) than native born citizens.

I'm amazed they still have this page up.
I'll post my comment before I post the text. Fuck you google not for abandoning another service, but for making me believe.
From here
https://developers.google.com/...What is "service choice" and how does Google Talk enable it?
Service choice is something you have with email and, for the most part, with your regular phone service today. This means that regardless of whom you choose as your email service provider (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, your school or ISP, etc), you can email anyone who is using another service provider. The same applies to phone service. You can call someone even if they do not use the same phone company as you do. This allows you to choose your service provider based on other more important factors, such as features, quality of service, and price, while still being able to talk to anyone you want.
Unfortunately, the same is not true with many popular IM and VOIP networks today. If the people you want to talk to are all on different IM/VOIP services, you need to sign up for an account on each service and connect to each service to talk to them.
The Google Talk network supports open interoperability with hundreds of other communications service providers through a process known as federation. This means that a user on one service can communicate with users on another service without needing to sign up for, or sign in with, each service.
