Try RealAlternative if you hate RealOne.

K-lite codec pack is what you need...
The k-lite codec pack found here should give you what you need. It's a whack of all the freeware codecs out there. Install it and if it still doesn't play, it's usually corrupt...

Re:A 100% LOL
One word (ok two, but that doesn't have nearly the cliched valve): Real Alternative.
homepage. I think this is its homepage at least.
V1.08 is the newest.
While you're at it, Quicktime Alternative works great as well.

What if I post the DMCA'd links here?
If I post the links for Kazaa Lite downloads that Google had to remove here on Slashdot, will Slashdot get a takedown notice? If so, will Slashdot comply? Moderators, please mod this up so that it will show up in the Google/Google News search index!

A very sad day for the Might and Magic fansI was rooting for JoWooD to acquire the Might and Magic franchise, with UBI Soft being my least desirable choice (yes, even less desirable than Microsoft). In addition to absolutely terrible initial releases (Pool of Radiance re-formating hard drive upon uninstall, for example), UBI Soft is known for its complete disregard for the fans. As a publisher, they are known for selling budget-style releases (box with CD in paper sleeve and manual on CD) for the price of new games. In addition, they are the only company with whom I've had worse experience than with Westwood in regards to technical support.
This detachment from the fans of their games spells potential lawsuits coming. There are two fan-based Might and Magic games in being produced, and judging from the technical demo I've played, they look great. Fans were extremely active in other areas as well. They released a patch that fixed the otherwise disastrous Might and Magic IX, which 3DO toletrated even though it was a blatant violation of the EULA (no files modification clause). There is a whole host of fan fiction available. In fact, 3DO often embraced the fans' efforts, including the 20 best maps from a contest into the second Heroes of Might and Magic expansion. I'm afraid that UBI Soft won't be as lenient. I've seen them sending cease-and-desist letters for lesser offenses, and that makes me worried that they'll destroy one of the most devoted fan communities in no time.

You might want to try this.
The people of Kazaa Lite fame (if I am not mistaken) created this nice little package called Real Alternative which is Media Player Classic and the Real codecs package in one.
Play those nice Real movies without the cruddy Real player! -
Have you seen what they consider "payment"?
The rewards will range from free access to paid content to sweepstakes entries toward cars and big-ticket cash prizes. The value of the prizes will depend on how many customers Altnet can attract and how much the company can persuade them to offer.
Riiiiight. Thanks but no thanks -- earning access to paid content and the possibility of winning cash prizes isn't enough of a reason to allow BDE to make money using MY hardware and MY connection, whilst potentially affecting the stability of my system. Howzabout I keep on using Kazaa Lite instead? -
Re:They always miss the obvious...
Cocaine and hookers, and plenty of both...
The downside being that you end up looking like this if you happen to live through it. -
Starting places
First of all you should decide on exactly what you want to do. Do you want to design and build your own computer, or are you happy to build a computer that other people have already designed? I started building other people's designs (the first computer I built was a Z-80 kit computer) and managed to teach myself enough to tackle designing and building a simple 8-bit computer. 8-bit computers are reasonably simple to design and build and there's quite a lot of resources on the net available.
I would suggest that you look at sites like 6502.org, www.coprolite.com, Mark-8, POD 6502 or Grant Searle's collection of sites build your own UK101, build your own ZX-80 and build your own Jupiter Ace...
These are all quite good sites, and you can study their designs to learn how they work.
Hope this helps!
