possessive/contraction"...doesn't want Continental to provide free wireless service to the members of it's frequent flier club."
When are the slashdot mods going to learn the difference between "its" and "it's"? Strong Bad explains it best.

Re:What about..?
BTW, my all time favorite from Homestar Runner, which I'm sure will be appreciated by most people reading Slashdot: Strong Bad's Virus E-Mail
-
What about..?I've never heard of a few of these, but the best web fads I remember in my circle of geek friends are without a doubt:
1) The oft-offensive video/image dumping grounds of Adorable Bunnies, and...
2) Homestar Runner! How could anyone forget Homestar? This site spawned such classics as "The Cheat is not dead" and "Peasant's Quest" featuring Trogdor, the Burninator (and it's catchy theme song (/burninating the peasants/who live in thatch roof cottages!!/)). If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about: Homestar Runner Wiki

I'm a little dissapointed that Strong Bad didn't make the list.

SB Email in full screen mode is simple. Just replace the
.html with a .swf. Or use Greasemonkey, it works great too.

Re:What is the point or purpose of IPTV?
You're obviously a fan of Homestar Pay Plus!

Re:What is the point or purpose of IPTV?
What is the point or purpose of IPTV?
A practical purpose of IPTV is to allow content from anywhere and anyone - not just Big Business. Now, Time Warner is doing this only to prevent such a thing from happening.
Take, Strong Bad, for example. I would easily pay like $5/year to watch this creativity a couple times per month. What happens if 30 million others feel the same way? Instant negation of Big Business, that is what.
Time Warner, Comcast, NBC, CBS, Fox and all those others need to be first here or they will be gone in short time. -
Taking over the world...One ZIP Code at a time!I have yet to RTFL, but using the Google Map API to write Risk or Civ style games sounds like a wonderful (and just a little scary) application for megalomaniacs like myself.
Imagine the complexity one could introduce to the game...Maybe not use individual troops, but use something similar to Axis and Allies, where each piece represents approximately one division/squadron/task force (maybe ships only represent one ship... has been awhile). Lay siege to your hometown, and animate peasants running through the streets.
Then again, maybe we can adapt Trogdor to play out against SCO's offices...

Re:Not really new, but interesting
Name one.
Homestar Runner
Is it pleasant to use? Meh. Depends on your web eccentricity. The site itself is pretty easy and fun.
Flash has it's place, and some flash designers know the good uses, but others just need to beat on the head with a web standards stick.

I got got by a typosquatter in front of my boss
I was about to show my boss an example of cool flash animation and I accidentally typed http://homestarunner.com instead of http://homestarrunner.com! All these nudies poppup up on screen and my face turned red. Man, did he give me beans over that.

Re:It's dupe-a-licious!Great!
...because I just submitted this story:According to this article, OpenBSD 2.6 has been released, despite still being dead. Linus Torvalds has publicly accused Microsoft of resorting to bully tactics, but Richard Stallman has built a beowulf cluster of supercomputers in Soviet Russia, which promises to defend all our base.
Crosses fingers and eagerly waits for "story accepted" confirmation...

Re:And Let's Not Forget About "It's"
Strong Bad said it best with "If you want it to be possessive, it's just 'ITS.' But if it's supposed to be a contraction then it's I-T-apostrophe-S, 'scalawag."
-
Re:That explains it...
Well, hopefully it's easier than Swedes trying to learn English.

Re:Good call
Homestar Runner is completely ad-free - but they have a pretty good little niche where they can sell enough merchandise to keep it going.
Take /. for instance - let's see a raise of hands here:
How many has a /. plushie?
Well, a /. CD?
Coffee mug, then, and perhaps a t-shirt?
Oh, three.
Well, y'see, those two t-shirts and that mug ain't gonna pay the server costs - but right now, having ads will.
I know, some of you are subscribers, and that probably covers a few percent as well.
That's the entire point.
While it's really nice to have sites with NO advertising (like H*R), for most sites, it's just not an option.
As much as I hate ads and having to block all those different adservers every time a new one pops up, I have been thinking the same thing - what happens to my favourite sites when they don't get the revenue stream that they'd get from ads? -
Robort?
Coach Z made a robot... named Elvis? Makes sense. Wow - great jorb!

Re:Why?
Because it can be ported to as many platforms as we want to without waiting for the benevolence of the whizbang-antialiased-vector-animation-website-int
r o-blinking-ads-with-sound overlords, several rendering backends will eventually be possible (OpenGL accelerated, albeit fullscreen flash animations are not an issue anymore with current cpus, but offloading processing to GPU is IMO a Good Thing®), there are actually a few good things made in flash, like Strong Bad , it will be a while until svg gets traction on the internet, and there are already SVG implementations going along which will not die (KDE, Mozilla, Gnome). -
Re:Open source SWF decompiler ?
What about an Open Source decompiler for SWF files ?
Oooooh, imagine the Homestar Runner episodes I could recreate :D -

Re:Ask Nicely
I'm a Linux/Libre software zealot who's 100% in favor of Flash. By not having it installed, I miss out on all the things on which I want to miss out.
Yeah, well, it's hard to be credible at the same time you're saying that you want to miss out on strongbad email.

(n.b. this link won't do much for you since you don't have flash)
The wagon fulla pancakes by itself is worth installing flash for.

The names of the laws never cease to amazeIt seesm in the US, whenever lawmakers wish to introduce some particularly bizarre or unpalatable legislation they name it the 'Family and... Act' or 'Little Billy Act' or some such other name to give it that warm cosy feeling that makes people think 'Hmm my fair use rights went out the window but at least the family is safe.'
God forbid the is ever written a Lil' Brudder Act. It probably would hide the fact they intend to poison anyone who isn't white and right wing Christian.

Re:I don't get the point of no retail but...
So let me get this straight: X64 doesn't support flash? At all? The only way I can distract my 13 month old so I can read the NYT is by popping on an Strong Bad Email... and to think I was going to upgrade next week. Thanks very much - my ear drums appreciate it!
-
Re:Consolidation, nothing moreThere are no great expectations for this marriage, its just a strong player with a strong stock using it as currency to remove a competitor.
Well, that and PDF sucks ass. Flash is a wonderful web medium. PDF is a massive nuisance. Putting a document in a PDF is a guaranteed signal to me that says: I AM MEANINGLESS FORMATTING AND FLUFF. DO NOT BOTHER TO READ ME. I curse every time I accidentally click on a link that leads me to some fucking PDF file, because it kills my browser, and I can't even switch to another tab to wait while the now proven-useless and boring shit loads.
It's hard to imagine, but I'm sure Adobe will load up new releases of Flash with meaningless bandwidth- and processor-gobbling horseshit and in the process ruin the greatest website in existence.

Re:Conclusion?
Luckily for me, I have Edga Jr. to protect me from articles like this.

It means that this guy will finally be able to send PDF attachments.
