Re:BART has drivers.
You've almost certainly never ridden BART, much less seen the driver's cab. Why do I say this? Because there's a section of the BART system (the Oakland Wye, bane of commuters who want to get anywhere during rush hour) where drivers are instructed to go to manual control, limited to 25 MPH. It's the result of your vaunted "automated" system designed in the '60s never having worked properly in the past 50 years, and one of the contributing factors to a crash in 2009 (thankfully no one was seriously injured). There are many well-documented incidents of entire train sets disappearing from the computer system, as well as "ghost" trains randomly appearing.
Here is what an actual BART cab looks like:

They should consider a "poor UI design program"
You know, like this relentless drive to make things flat, single shaded and without borders / lines or dividers making information / data easier to identify. It's all mashed together.
Furthermore the tabletification of web pages, the urge to push Google+ on their customers, really importantly also is the move to remove the menu (context) button on Android devices instead for a multi-task button. One of the _primary_ reasons, literally one of the biggest factors in me moving to Android from Apple was this genius concept of the options / settings / context "other" menu button ALWAYS being in a consistent spot and not fucking floating around on the screen randomly like it does on an iphone! (Yes, I know Blackberry did it first and credit to them too)
But nope, let's change that idea for a multi-task button, what the hell? No thanks - I'd rather just do a double tap of home for multi-task.Then there's the removal of the text on icons - yes, I get this allows them to be able to regionalise things MUCH MUCH faster, can't deny that benefit to THEM but to me? To identify these ambiguous looking icons? Sure some are consistent, like a green telephone icon at a diagonal angle for call and flat 'hanging up' red phone for hanging up but some of the other stuff is not so clear (and even if you figure it out it takes time to process) It took me at least 30 seconds to figure out how to edit a draft email in the new gmail app about 6 months ago, because they removed the fucking text 'edit' - there's a small pencil icon instead, tucked in a corner.
So yes, a poor UI design program is bloody essential, if not the fucking firing of developers when a project is complete. STOP fiddling, STOP justifying your jobs somehow. Some internet websites / apps are services now. They are like water, it's like a toaster, does it REALLY need to actually change?
Do I really need multiple inboxes? I LIKE the priority inbox, now already the damn thing is 'grandfathered' for their new design, how long until that multi-inbox thing is forced on me as the old one is finally terminated / not supported?Sorry to rant but Google for the past 18 months is NOT the google of previous times, they are driving me frankly, fucking bonkers. Get your shit together.

The objective was to create an opportunity for people to ask "hey, what's that logo represent" and engage youngsters in a discussion on open source operating systems.
For the same purpose I've got a large plush rastafarian penguin.
It works great as a conversation starter into free and open source software and/or legalization and cultivation of herbs, as the case may be. The reddened eyes mirror my own when hacking long into the night, or taking a break therefrom. I also have an Ubuntu tee-shirt serving as my dart board's bullseye for discussing things like TFA, your post, and our new Debian deployment.
The best talking piece was my large terrarium of green anolis for discussing the cycle of life and courtship to a lesser extent, but they didn't survive our discussion of the birds and bees -- The lizards that is; The children are fine... unfortunately.

Re:Rockets are limited
People, we desperately need to break out of the conceptual straightjacket of three dimensions. If only scientists would listen to me and read the thousands of letters that I have sent to NASAR, Bill Gates, Bill O'Reilly, Bill Clinton, and other respected Schientists, they would have realized that you can get inside solid objects with ease just by travelling in the fourth dimentian. This is something I do on a regular basis, and have done since I was six years old. Once you learn it, it's like riding a bike, you can't get off it ever!

Re:Python
How do you write C++ code for use from Python such that it's not an independent module?
I mentioned C/C++ because of the context, but I was actually referring to the logical aspect of the system. You can (and I know people who do) make spaghetti-code even with, for instance, RPC calls.
Anyway, regardless of how you architecture it, in the end you'll have Python script feeding data to your C++ code.
That's the point: you should not depend on that. The C++ code must be thoroughly tested independently of the Python code. You know, the whole high cohesion / low coupling thing.
If something goes wrong, you might want to debug said C++ code specifically as it is called from Python (i.e. with that data).
Then you should use that recorded data in your C++ unittests.
Even if you don't ever have to cross the boundary between languages during debugging, there are still benefits to be had from a debugger with more integrated support - for example, it can show Python representations of objects that were passed to your C++ code.
Even if your debugger had not that feature, it would still be useful. My point is that a good developer should need your debugger only on special cases (e.g. when you don't have access to all the code).

I sent my girlfriend $5 to try it out. It went down like this.
Send an email to her composed as such:
To: girlfriend@gfmail.com
Cc: cash@square.com
Subject: $5
Body: Ladida whatever
She received the email, and immediately afterwards we both received an email stating I was sending her funds.
My Email: http://imgur.com/f264wIG
Her Email: http://imgur.com/F8GhpJ9
When I hit the link card button, it brought me to a secure site and asked for my debit card #, expiration date and zip code. No name or anything else.
Once I filled in the info and hit confirm we both received another round of emails.

She clicked on the link to deposit cash and was given the same screen asking for a debit card number, exp. date and zip code. Nothing else.
After she confirmed, another round of emails went out.

I sent another $5 to her account to catch screens from the website. Turns out when you're already linked an account to your email, you just get an email asking to confirm instead of having to relink your bank account. Once you hit the confirm button, money is sent.
My confirm email: http://imgur.com/vxoiS7t
She received an email waiting for me to confirm and an email saying that funds were deposited with the same text as before. She didn't have to do anything for the second payment and it was deposited into her account once i confirmed.
There were no charges or fees at all. -

Re:the fuck?
From a technological standpoint, shooting someone who is about to rape your daughter is the same as shooting someone because you want to drive the car they're in: the bullet punctures the skin and causes internal damage, temporarily (or permanently) disabling the person being shot. Therefore ban all guns.
I'll just leave this here.

Re:Great little article
You humans are so silly. My code is self documenting, especially designed for others to read it, even when ported automatically between languages. I don't use bullshit languages and editors that can't do proper in-line documentation.
This is what it looks like in the source-view.
This is what it looks like in the doc-view.
The trick is, if your language ACTUALLY supported full Unicode / UTF-8, then you could embed a myriad of control characters and give semantic meaning to invisible whitespace FOR DOCUMENTATION and formatting purposes only... So as not to interfere with the complier. I highlight a section of code and tag it as an image, the editor injects whitespace controls for image start / end. Line drawing inserts slashes and dashes and pipes, etc. with the "line" whitespace: ZWSP at endpoints; The doc generator creates documentation via SVG or simple software rasterizer.
The meta language translator takes one common language and outputs in C, Java, Perl, Haskel, and JavaScript; Yes, including generating the build environment. The source code for these compilers is open! It's not hard to extract the lexers then write a transform -- Except that each language has features that don't directly transform from one source to another... So all you need then is a meta language + "runtime" to act as your universal translator. It's like Gene Roddenberry taught you nothing.
You've been coding in the training area your whole lives. Why fight target languages like dumb code monkeys? Time to level up. Don't you want computers to be able to do whatever you say someday? You're going to need a common programming interface then -- or sentient machines...
I realized decades ago that software development was going the wrong way, I added another layer of indirection -- Because no one else would. I do contract work, so for now meta coding is how I get a leg up on teams of Indians bidding on the same jobs. You don't have to wait for me to retire and open source it to do it yourself -- If you're a programmer then writing a compiler should be no big deal. All it takes for anyone to duplicate anything is for them to know it's possible.
