the OTHER SIDE
Theres alot more to this
Theres quite a soap opera brewing away at UT200Troopers.com
The team members got into a big pissing match with the project lead and they ended booting his ass. He got all up tight about it and has been making his opinions known in the forums as well as on his website where he details his interactions with Lucas Arts.
His account did not include any VERY friendly negotiations. In fact, Lucas Arts threatened legal on his ass before anything else.

What is the best pie?

Let's just hope they indure it...
Lest this happens to them. Make sure you check out those pictures!

Re:Egg People?
What'cha mean, Weebl and Bob are going to use it too? I can imagine it already: turn the device on and it blurts "want pie now!" out loud, then it stops working until you bring a pie. Or a donkey.

Re:Pricing Inaccurate"You're really missing out. Does BF1942 have a Persistent World? Characters you can level up?"
Well, those are two aspects of planetside that really made me want it....that and the MASSIVE battles where whole platoons are brought in on several dropships and stuff. I mean, in theory its awesome, and i was ready to drop the money for it once I had it. However, after reading up on it...it seems like a dumbed down FPS.
No head shots...there is a 'cone of fire' to help with the lag...so you really just have to pray-and-spray and hope you hit. And from the other things i've read...it really is all a question of who has the bigger gun. Whereas in bf1942..doesn't matter if someone has an assault rifle point at me if I can pop them once in the head with my pistol, which is how it should be. I also hear tanks take lots of damage from running over people. Are you KIDDING ME? Thats all I have to say about the tanks.
Otherwise I think its a pretty bitchin concept, and I wish a TRUE FPS would evolve to that massive of a gameworld with the same gameplay they offer now.
And the other poster is right, starwars would ROCK in this kind of game. Can you say Battle of Hoth? And then you grab an X-Wing and fly up high enough and you're in space with several star destroyers lookin at you. If someone could ever nail the game that solidly with SW, I think it would be a powerhouse.
BTW, there is currently a mod being developed for BF1942 based on StarWars. Here's the link.

Re:Counter-Strike 2003?
> Beta 5.2? Hmm... never heard of that version...
Try visiting a page like this for a brief history of CS.
> I'm still enjoying 1.5 myself, and it's not running slow at all.
I was talking about slow gameplay (compared to before cs 1.0), not slow fps ;)
> CS was bought by valve? Well, from what I understand cs was produced using valve's engine and SDK, so didn't they 'own' it already?
The guy who made CS was gooseman (his real name is Minh Le)... he helped other mods before starting CS, like the famous aq2 for quake2. CS started out as a project completely independant from Valve. It was just a halflife mod. It's status is similiar to how most q3 and UT mods are. id and epic don't support most mods to their games, and their distributors don't put these mods in stores.
However, counterstrike is different. Gooseman was hired by Valve. It was packaged and put in shelves. The post-Valve cs plays quite differently from the Gooseman-only beta CS versions.
> As for killing off the aging counterstrike, wouldn't counterstrike condition zero be the real killer? Updated engine, better graphics, etc... (I haven't followed all the details...)
Who knows.. There have been many CS clones and CS-like mods for q3 (urbanterror, truecombat), UT (tac-ops), but none of them have had the success of CS. Many of these clones actually have arguably better graphics and gameplay than CS (mainly because they aren't based on the quake1-derived engine that halflife is.)
But all games have a limit until they go stale. I don't think CS:CZ will be as a hit as CS was, but who knows..

Re:Why stop there? It's been done. See Barrysworld or Jolt or Splatterworld or Boomtown, Danish telecom's gaming net.
All of these are ISPs, but specifically geared toward gaming -- that is, low ping, ample game servers, admins available to kick cheaters, etc. Most of them have a presence on QuakeNet, for those IRC-inclined.
Someday the States will have a gaming ISP as well.
