Re:KLite
Talking about KazaaLite, could anyone give some information as to where the hell the domain name of Kazaa Lite leads to, since it's been stolen ?
seems to be some kind of scam to me... -
What if I post the DMCA'd links here?
If I post the links for Kazaa Lite downloads that Google had to remove here on Slashdot, will Slashdot get a takedown notice? If so, will Slashdot comply? Moderators, please mod this up so that it will show up in the Google/Google News search index!

I'd pay ten bucks for a plain vanilla music CD...
Ten bucks
... provided there's no copy protection. I want to be able to listen to it in my car or rip the music @ 160kbps for my iPod if I choose to.
Ten bucks ... provided it's not a fluff "album" with just one good track. I might on occasion have bad enough taste to like a song even if the 'artist' is some kind of prefab one-hit wonder propped up on studio sound, but if the artist really only HAS one song, I don't wanna pay for 9 other padding tracks squeezed out no good reason. In this case, sell me instead a compilation album of only good and new stuff, for ten bucks, or a single with a few good remixes, for about buck-fifty.
Ten bucks ... provided it's stuff I've already checked out on Kazaa and listend to on my iPod for a couple of weeks and determined it was all good.
I think it'll be a while before I set foot in a record store again.
I'd really like to get back into listening to uncompressed music again sometime. MP3 is just a matter of convenience and freedom; its sound quality has always been just a compromise. On a nice sound system or a good set of cans you can really hear the compression ... live music on mp3 with hissing hi-hats and alien sizzling crowd noises can be really dull.
I like the Super Audio sound quality but I'm not buying into that proprietary platform. Sony DRM is just too nasty to deal with... -
Re:What's funny... Read the complaintOnly some of these URLs are actually useful for finding the Kazaa Lite software. The useful ones are:
-
Why Even Bother ... Honestly?I notice that the law firm's address and phone numbers are marked out as "[private]" on the DMCA complaint.
Odd, when they make it public information on their website (whose URL isn't blocked out in the PDF file) and they don't have any other branches:

info@biztechlaw.com e-mailOn a side note -- honestly curious, not meant to be trolling -- how is 378,000 results "a bit lacking"? And they only removed 14?

3.11 Anyone ;)
I never did like this DivX Pro nonsense. Am I the only one to never make the jump from 3.11
;) to 5.0? I tried installing it once on a new system but hated all the crap that came bundled with it as well as the idea to pay for it. AFAIK, (which in this area, admittedly isn't far) I still haven't found any files that I couldn't play. There are however alternatives. The Kazaa Lite codec pack is a good place to start, and it even included software to play Quicktime and RealMedia files without the attrocious software they come bundled with. Combine that with Media Player Classic and you have a robust, fully functional, and FREE media player under Windows, without the extra crap you don't need anyway! -
Re:Publicity
Yeah thats awesome linux guys, but I really have to put my
.02 in this. I have one player for everything in windows. Media Player Classic does everything I ever wanted in a media player. Combine it with the codec pack and the quicktime/realmedia alternative codec packs you can get from here . It can play everything you throw at it because all it does is use all the codecs on your system. You can set priority if you want things specific and dolby ex quality dvds play perfectly. -
Re:Oh yeah?
$500? Didn't you hear that Photoshop is now part of the free software movement now?
Kazaa may be free software. That doesn't make Photoshop Free Software, it makes it pirated. -

Re:Kazaa Lite - Tastes Great::Less Filling
Actually, the link is Kazaa Lite. It doesn't resolve with the www.
And just to make clear, kazaalite.com is NOT the official Kazaa Lite site; it is some squatter. -
Re:Kazaa Lite - Tastes Great::Less Filling
Even better - KazzaLite K++. It's the normal KazzaLite with some great features added, like Auto Unlimited Search More and such. I use it all the time and love it. The website is down right now, but it should be back up soon.
-
Kazaa Lite: No Altnet
Just keep using Kazaa Lite, that is, until they find a way to disable access for non-authorized versions, and we all end up with "only" eMule and the other networks, which will probably include a modified version of WASTE in the near future.

Re:Value-added
kazaalite.com? um, no.. try k-lite.tk.
-
Re:Not Always True
If you could get kazaa users to use some other p2p program that isn't spyware,
You mean kazaa lite? -
Re:Direct Connect
DC++ is much nicer than the original client, but many hubs won't allow it, it's very easy to fakeshare. By modifying one line of source code, I made DC++ think that each of my files was 1gb. I don't use it any more though, I've had much better luck with Kazaa Lite.

Re:Already done...?
kazaalite.com is a evil villain pretending to be the real KaZaA Lite site. Why evil? They act like they are the real site, and give no credit to the real people behind it. They also run anti-ad-blocker.
For reference, the real site is here. KaZaA Lite 2.1.0 is an excellent client. Now if only they had error checking/correction... -
Re:Already happening
well i doubt kazaa has a back door, you would think the people at kazaa lite would have found it by now ( k-lite.tk ), i would venture to guess they just slightly modify the FT protocol so that older versions of kazaa or other FT clients wont work anymore... possibly speficaly excluding clients that identify themselves as one sharman wants to boot from the network. as soon as all the supernodes upgrade to the new version. bam! booted off the network. any other ideas? (atleast hopefully sharman isnt dumb enough to include a backdoor in public software!)

Re:Huh?
Get Kazaa Lite (newest K++, preferably), use Sig2Dat links from verified links (there are verifieds available there). Analogous to Sharereactor's edonkey2k links.. They contain the UUHash of the file and appear to be unfakable - that is, the file K-Lite tries to download is the same file the verifieds site saw.
Incidentally, arguably Bittorrent might be better for certain purposes. Edonkey's protocol has advantages too, except for the reliance on servers (and Overnet is Not There Yet). -
kazaa for mac/linuxyou would think that a someone in the biz of "free sharing" would make their code as open as possible
Kazaa makes their money off of the advertising and spyware they bundle with KMD (the Kazaa app). By opening up the code or the FastTrack protocol, they would cut off their revenue stream.
Given two ways of accessing the FastTrack network, one with ads and spyware, one without, which would you choose? As it is, Kazaa Lite probably puts a significant dent in their revenues. They don't want to add to that problem.
Does anyone know of any efforts to crack the FastTrack protocol by reverse-engineering KMD? I would love to see a client for my Mac and/or Linux box.

Re:La Blue Girl
Yes, it is kinky ;-) If you have a P2P app [such as Kazaalite] you can find all the episodes floating around. But I love the series for its humour, too. Much more engrossing than Pikachu *grins*
Worth buying. -
Re:Wow, I'm actually one of the first 20 posters..
Watch it. There was at least one version i downloaded from there that had some really strange hosts entries and other weird stuff. Seems someone is trying to hijack kazaalite for his own scheme. Look (eg.) here freewebhosting.hostdepartment.com/kazaalitetk or here www.k-lite.tk for a more trustworthy download site.
