Don't Call Me Ska Face!
I nominate "Don't Call Me Ska Face" V. 1-3 to be the happiest collection of songs! EVAR!
Perhaps not record-breaking "happiest", but even the sad topics are sung upbeat. Gotta love that limey '80's ska, does wonders for my production. Good stuff.

Re:What if
What if.... they combined the blackest material ever, with the most metal material ever?!??

Re:sorry
where do you think the "billboard" numbers originate?
Try Tin Pan Alley which was the origin of the billboard numbers. Wikipedia has a good take on it. I'll quote below, that a lot of Rock and Pop actually came from Negro Ragtime, Cakewalk and Blues tunes, although Ragtime and Cakewalk were arguably White genre 'Black' music.
"Initially Tin Pan Alley specialized in melodramatic ballads and comic novelty songs, but it embraced the newly popular styles of the cakewalk and ragtime music. Later on jazz and blues were incorporated, although less completely, as Tin Pan Alley was oriented towards producing songs that amateur singers or small town bands could perform from printed music. In the 1910s and 1920s Tin Pan Alley published pop-songs and dance numbers created in newly popular jazz and blues styles"

Re:personal area network?
It's easy, Cheech and Chong beat Motorola to that patent. http://www.last.fm/music/Cheech+&+Chong/_/Acupuncture
Wonderful demonstration of playing a xylophone by only stimulating a few nerves.
I'm pretty sure it's an open patent, so get out your pincushion and go to town.... -
Re:You can't block it now.
Thanks a bloody lot for getting that song stuck in my head. (Well, getting an awesome old mashup of it stuck in my head, anyway. So actually, thanks! It's an excellent mashup.)

Re:Which other service?

Re:Intl. Distribution
Unlikely. It would probably be distributed in the same way as royalties for audio CD taxes are, which means it's based on radio airplay counts. Translation: unless you're writing music for a major label, you're not going to see a cent.
They could base it on the number of scrobbles recorded on LastFM and similar systems.

LMAO - I KNOW BETTER, refer to the above... you've been caught LYING saying you had "dual majors" for one thing, & you steal others' code and ALL YOU DO IS WEBCHUMP CRAP! I don't even consider that coding... lol, it's TOO easy! Especially in Visual Studio ASP.NET!
Refer to the above, & I actually have an B.S. Business Administration + MIS concentration/minor alongside CSC A.A.S. (long done, & I am going PAST that now) & already 94/120 credit hours into the FULL B.S. CSC here... alongside 17++ yrs. of industry experience hands on (ranging from Programmer/Programmer-Analyst, Software Engineer, alongside Network Administrator titles as well)... many times for Fortune 100-500 companies too, unlike yourself...

Re:What, people use it to stream lo-quality music?
I listen to it occasionally, but I agree that the main point is the scrobbling.
-
Choose how much you pay?
On the subscription page http://www.last.fm/subscribe it seems you can choose to pay 3 USD, EUR or GBP for your subscription. Well that'll be $3.00 please as that is the cheapest !!
-
Re:What, people use it to stream lo-quality music?
I came to say this, too. I love the scrobbling end of things.
Discovery has been so-so, but definite big winners when it got it dead on. -
Re:WAAAAAAA
I hate commercials and advertising but I refuse to pay! Waaaaaaa!
You say that as if they actually tried advertising and their users complained. But they didn't, they went straight from "free" to "subscription required".
The problem might be that they can't figure out how to put ads in their mobile apps. If their programmers are really that talentless, that could also explain why there are so many complaints about the Android app being unstable.
-
What, people use it to stream lo-quality music?
I've only ever really used it as it was intended, as a scrobbling device for massive muso-geeks. Basically it's all about showing how fucking cool your music taste is.

Read it and weep, crap music fans. -
Re:Why was it ever relevant?
Apologies if you've seen this already.
-
Yup
And then you have music like like mine (free to listen to/download, btw), which is designed to evoke imagery in people's minds. I created what I "heard" when I "saw" things, either in dreams or when using my imagination, but obviously that may differ from what other people see.
It's really interesting, seeing how radically different two different people's reaction can be to the same sound.

Filesharing is a boon for some of us
::begin self-plug::
Filesharing is a boon for people like myself. I do some writing (nothing released to the public yet, although once it is it will all be distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial ShareAlike license) and also make some spacey-ambient and drone-type music. The music I make is freely available to all (both on Last.FM and in a torrent.) Since I care more about people hearing my music (and, in the future, reading my writing) rather than getting money for it, filesharing is perfect for me.
I've got a donate button on my site, but even after I officially put my stuff up for "sale", I will continue to ensure it's available for free. I've gotten my fair share of music and writings for free...I feel like I should contribute something back, know what I mean?
::end self-plug:: -
Re:Imagine that!
Here you go. Look in the "shout" section for a link to the torrent.
It's all a combination of spacey ambient ("Transient Unknown" project), drone ("Implied Reality" project), and chilled-out head nodding stuff ("Lost on the Way to the Laundry" project). I have a LOT more than what is on there, but that's what I've publicly released so far.

Re:Something I find interesting
Here's some ideas:
Last.fm: it logs everything you listen to (plugins available for every major music player, think it has iphone support too). Get all you the stuff you own and like already digital (if you haven't already) and after a while it'll start churning out really good recommendations based on what you already like.
Festivals: There's a number of good music festivals in the every summer (almost any time of year in warm places). Stuff to suit any taste and in varying degrees of family friendliness and other such attributes. Use a bit of google-fu and you can probably find something local. Take a bit of vacation time and have a couple days of music and fun. Buy cds from the people you like, everyone sells them at these things.
Social Networking: Look at pages on facebook and myspace(about the only thing still there), lots of bands have pages on there and you can find plenty of interesting stuff that way. One good strategy is too look at a friend's (one who you know has good taste) likes and check out any bands you find there.
In a big enough city you should be able to find places catering to a slightly older crowd that should be more active a bit earlier. As a bonus such a place is more likely to be putting on shows you like.
Lastly, you might consider expanding your musical horizons a bit. I like bluesy rock myself (Prefer the Doors to Zeppelin in that vein, but both are really good) but there's so much more out there. Don't be afraid to listen to something just because it's not in your genre and try to give new stuff an honest chance (There are album's I really didn't care much for on the first listen but eventually grew to love. Sometimes it takes a while to 'get' an artist or album or genre, I mean, you probably didn't like coffee the first time you drank it, but if you're like me you wouldn't want to start the day without it now right?).

Re:Rdio works
I'm happily streaming music from Last.fm for $3/m in Canada. I recommend it too.
-
Last.fm anyone?
Why would I want to use this over Last.fm which doesn't lock me into an application, is accessible from my webbrowser and has plugins for about every media player around?
It arguably doesn't provide competition to Facebook aiming at a different audience altogether, but to me, judging from the article, it seems to be swimming in much the same waters as Apple's Ping.

Re:Other acts you might like
I think I've got a couple Zer0 0ne tracks somewhere; I'll definitely give a listen.
Also, just in case you've missed them, try the older groups Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, and Medicine.
To be clear, these groups and the others I posted earlier are not PsyChill, being described instead as shoegazing or ambient, but most tend towards similar mindspaces.
Cheers,
