Re:Linux Mandrake rocks.... but...
It's not a bug, it's a feature.
Metamail no longer uses /tmp because of some security problems (a user does ln -s /etc/shadow /tmp/L1234567.html, root calls lynx, lynx overwrites /etc/shadow when creating a temporary file).
The package needing fixing is etcskel (so ~/tmp is created when the user is created). This has been done in cooker (development version of Mandrake 6.1, http://www.linux-mandrake.com/cooker/).

Re:Miguel you're plain wrong
Boy was i suprised when I went to the linux mandrake page, and found screenshots of KWM configured with themes just as wild(ugly) as E. They just don't advertize it much.
Anyway, the E that came with redhat was stable, though it seems to ignore the fact that the gnome panel is there, and maximizes apps over it. Kinda weird they let that slip through. Fix this by getting icewm, works find right after installing the rpm -
Some of the differences...
Actually there are a lot of differences between 5.3 and 6.0 aside from what RH has done.
For example, 6.0 has ISDN support, support for CD-Writers, the Euro key and Windoze keys, bzip2'ed man and info pages (not really user visible, but saves you quite some diskspace), and a series of new packages.
Have a look at the announcement http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ venusannounce.php3 for some more details (but even the announcement isn't complete). -
Re:Why?
Among other things, you get better hardware support (CD-Writers, ISDN, PC-Speaker, Windoze keys), more packages, Pentium optimizations, and TrueType support.
The announcement at
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ venusannounce.php3 has more details. -
That's Linux Mandrake
The Lothar Project is from Linux Mandrake (the distro). VA bought Enlightened Solutions from mandrake (the person), who we all know from his work on Enlightenment (Enlightened Solutions, get it...)

SCSI Seaker..
Linux Mandrake has a set of kernel-2.2.3 RPMs available. My only hard-drive is through my aic7xxx SCSI adapter. All you need to do is install the RPMS (that's install.. NOT upgrade) for the new kernel, run mkinitrd (Apparently scsi_mod is compiled into the mandrake kernel, so you don't need to use with-scsi-modules). edit
/etc/lilo.conf to allow you to boot linux and oldlinux (or whatever), run lilo and reboot. I'll probably put a kernel 2.2.5 RPM up soon if Mandrake hasn't already done it, check my website. -
Try Mandrake-Linux!

Jesus christ
Of course in the opens ource/linux community haven't license and stability issues always been our drive!! We bash M$ Windoze because of its increasingly poor stability...and we want to keep our 'free' - (that's free in the open source sense) - software truly 'free'. I'm right behind RedHat for pushing GNOME, and if you want RedHat with KDE why not use Linux-Mandrake and you get the nice asscii penguin at the login screen

Aktion
There is something called Aktion that comes with Linux-Mandrake. Then click on features on the left.
Among others, it mentions
aktion 0.2 (mpeg/avi/mov player)
Check it out! -
The MirrorsJust thought that I would let all know that the Mandrake site has posted the few mirrors that are out there. Just head on over to:
