Re:Lorem Ipsum
Just because words have a meaning doe the text as a whole mean anything. From Google Translate:
(generated from https://lipsum.com/)The refinancing. Maecenas was not the greatest of the lakes. In fact, as is evident from the laughter. Before the very first basketball set their jaws grief and clinical care; Now the arc of outdoor soccer or football sometimes football pool. Peanut prices have to pull classroom. Nothing but sit around. Gluten. Maecenas molestie justo. However, this nutrition propaganda. The lion until sterilized at dui invest in a smart and original. Sed ornare sapien quam, he wishes to makeup or the price of the quiver.
The meaning of Lorem Ipsum is NOT the words. It is the layout of the words to make it look like text. The whole point of Lorem Ipsum is that it IS meaningless or better, the meaning is irrelevant.

Re:Lorem Ipsum
and I quote:
"Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. " -
Re:And they saved even more...
Ok, so I opened LibreOffice 5 (which comes with Ubuntu 16.04LTS), created a new document, went to Format/Page, selected the radio-button "Landscape" on the "Page" tab, clicked "Ok". Then I went to www.lipsum.com, generated 5 paragraphs of "Lorem ipsum" and copy/pasted that in my newly created document.
At this point, I hit Control-P, followed by Enter, which gave me a totally fine landscape printed "Lorem ipsum" text, as it was displayed on screen.
So, uhm... what's wrong?
Obviously LO printing ONLY works with Latin. Try doing it in Cyrillic and see what you get.

Re: Primum scribee / first post
... what this translates to?I can't find a translation so I suspect it's random phrases like Walter Matthau does in 'California suite' (the 1978 production). See here.

Re:Do what you can
How about replacing all text data with fake text from a generator?
They'll either think you're Cicero or realize the data isn't accurate. -
Re:Yeah but ...
LOL
... "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt.OK don't even attempt to match Welsh phonetically to English is the lesson here.

Re:Remember kids...
You pasted the Corporate Ispum link incorrectly. Here is the correct URL.
Apple didn't invent Lorum Ipsum y'know.

Re:email?
Next up - saving electricity by using smaller fonts on the computer screens.
...of course that wouldn't work given that smaller fonts would mean fewer dark foreground pixels and more bright background pixels. Switching from white backgrounds to gray backgrounds would be more likely to have any impact (assuming that modern monitors use more electricity when displaying bright images).
What no one seems to have brought up is that while Century Gothic uses less ink than Arial, it also takes up more space (unless the size is reduced). Try it out with some Lorem ipsum text. I found that five paragraphs Arial 12-pt with 1.25" margins on letter paper takes up about 11" vertically. Those same five paragraphs in Century Gothic 12-pt take up 12.75" vertically. That 15% increase in space could easily lead to savings in ink being offset by additional paper waste.

Re:Good News
I can use Lipsum too! http://www.lipsum.com/

Re:Why?
It's not supposed to be Klingon, it's lorem ipsum. It means they haven't finished the page. The download is in Klingon. I think. Pretty sure it's not Lorem Ipsum anyway.
-
Re:Finally! I'm through the....
See http://www.lipsum.com/ for information on the Lorem ipsum text (there's a translation there too). In summary, it's a set of text traditionally used by publishers to fill space.

Re:For a little perspective
Ahahaha, your post is the best goddamn protest of Slashdot's lameness filter. I love it! Feed the computer its own stupid replies until it gives in.
Well, normally I would use Lorem Ipsum (having grown up with layout/pasteup) but I decided that it would take too long so I just did a lot of copy and paste.
Anyway, a working lameness filter would make sure you couldn't see slashdot at all...

Y2K Theme Song
Two Digits for a Date
(to the tune of "Gilligan's Island")
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
Of the doom that is our fate.
That started when programmers used
Two digits for a date.
Two digits for a date.
Main memory was smaller then;
Hard disks were smaller, too.
"Four digits are extravagant,
So let's get by with two.
So let's get by with two."
"This works through 1999,"
The programmers did say.
"Unless we rewrite before that
It all will go away.
It all will go away."
But Management had not a clue:
"It works fine now, you bet!
A rewrite is a straight expense;
We won't do it just yet.
We won't do it just yet."
Now when 2000 rolls around
It all goes straight to hell,
For zero's less than ninety-nine,
As anyone can tell.
As anyone can tell.
The mail won't bring your pension check.
It won't be sent to you
When you're no longer sixty-eight,
But minus thirty-two.
But minus thirty-two.
The problems we're about to face
Are frightening, for sure.
And reading every line of code's
The only certain cure.
The only certain cure.
[key change, big finish]
There's not much time,
There's too much code.
(And COBOL-coders, few)
When the century is finished with,
We may be finished, too.
We may be finished, too.
Eight thousand years from now I hope
That things weren't left too late,
And people aren't then lamenting
Four digits for a date(http://ifaq.wap.org/computers/y2kthemesong.html)

Doesn't Work
Says "INAUTHENTIC" for the text on this page: http://www.lipsum.com/ BTW, shoudn't it be "Unauthentic".
-
lorem ipsum
It's the standard filler text for page layout, see lipsum.com. It's a garbled version of a latin speech by Cicero.

Re:I'm curious...
If there's someone looking for a blog of a thirteen-year-old girl, Google is probably determined to help them find one.
I think Google's problem will be determining which information is actually worth indexing, I for one wouldn't give a damn if they opened a search index for lorem ipsum text. -
Re:Heh
Looks like the sort of generic boiler plate text that many web developers use
Are you thinking of Lorem Ipsum? -
Two words: Lorem Ipsum
This is pseudo latin dummy text. Learn all about it and generate your own here:
http://www.lipsum.com/ -
Fake latin plus some Ws and dots
Lorem ipsum etc but some of the letters replaced with capital W, and dots added.
-
Re:hindsightOops: meant to say pseudo-Latin...
it's lorem ipsum. basicly filler text that looks like english but wont distract the viewer from the real subject matter (the design)

Re:Its all Latin to me!
During the keynote, Steve Jobs said the Pages templates would be filled with greek text. I thought, what if you speak greek? Well now that I see the templates...It looks like latin to me! Can't he tell the difference?
Apparently he can't, which is unfortunate. If you'd like to generate your own random Latin text, try this. -
Re:Its all Latin to me!
Here's the entire text plus explanation:

Re:Its all Latin to me!
Greek is a typesetting term as well. In this case, it's referring to the traditional Lorem Ipsum placeholder.
-
Re:One article you don't want to miss?
http://www.lipsum.com/
It's just the dummy text that's been used by typesetters for years to showcase fonts. Translation: It's someone posting a huge block of text for the sake of posting a huge block of text. -
Re:Pseudo-Latin
And this is the most probable source: http://www.lipsum.com/

Lorem impsum dolor
Practice writing this, you will be able to focus on the letterforms instead of words and content:
More info here. -
My tools:
Pencil, paper, a text editor, and Lorem Ipsum filler text. I find it quicker to just knock out an HTML prototype with boilerplate HTML and CSS than it is to try to design something from a top-down approach and then have to redesign it bottom-up to begin with.

Re:Lorem ipsum dolor sitFrom the "official" Lorem Ipsum website:
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old.
The site says the text came from Cicero's work. -
Re:Moby's is the best...Perhaps it is meaningless actions that merely fuck with the bodies chemistry to make you feel good that are looked down upon?
Religious people tend to look down upon certain words and topics (you know, fucking, shitting, etc). Why is that? Is it because they are harmful? Bullshit. It's because they aren't intellectual and they're not things that respectable people discuss.
Part of the role of a follower of a religion is to be a respectable person so you don't give people reason to make negative stereotypes.
"Getting high and humping wildly" isn't very intellectual, and isn't respectable unless you're in a frat house. You're not gonna hear on the news "GWB today got high and had a huge orgy on the white house steps... boy, I wish I'd voted for him."
Mind you, these things are in that position because of people's beliefs long ago, but at this point it's a bit more complicated.
Which reminds me:On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain.
"de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum", Cicero -

Check out http://www.lipsum.com/ for everything you wanted to know about Lorem Ipsum but were afraid to ask.

What is "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..." ???
It is garbage, originally derived from an ancient latin text, but now generated by clever programs to approximate the look and feel of english text for formatters and page rendering. The idea is that you can't actually read it, so your monkey-mind won't get sucked into the content when you are supposed to be meditating on the layout/rendering.
A more authoritative (seeming) answer for the bayesian filter people.

Re:Other amusing mangled words floating aroundIf you're interested in the text which includes "Lorem Ipsum," or Lipsum, you may want to check out this site: http://www.lipsum.com/
Definitely far more than the average person needs to know about it, but way cool if you're into printing trivia.
