I have looked at Catalyst, because I wanted something like Rails for perl, because "back then" I knew perl pretty well, and not much ruby.

Seeing Catalyst and reading the docs sent me over to Rails and ruby really fast. Because to me, Catalyst looked like a giant mess of options. You have to choose your database abstraction layer, your template engine, and so forth.

That's not the point of a framework in my mind. To me, a framework is build from good, working pieces, to take away most of the drudgework of web app development. ActiveRecord may not be the best database abstraction there is, ERB might not be the best templating solution. But all those pieces work well together, making working with them fun.

In contrast, Catalyst to me seems like they throw you a bunch of glue code and say "Here, you figure it out". And since Lazyness is a virtue, I decided to use the pre-figured-out solution ;)

The zsh line editor get's totally confused if you type for example an umlaut and backspace over it.
And since my native language uses umlauts, and I need a UTF-8 environment for work, I had to go back to bash. Unfortunately...

Why do some people put egg shell in coffee grounds?
