Cloverfield ExplanationI've seen a lot of people complaining about the lack of exposition on the monster. You can piece together a pretty solid picture of what happened by browsing the info they leaked online. Google time.
Rob was going to Japan, right? The company he was going to work for makes Slusho, a new drink out of Japan. They hired him to help translate the brand to an American audience. The secret ingredient is something called "Seabed's Nectar". Apparently this part was mined from the sea floor by Tagruato Industries. While they were mining it, some kind of accident took place in the days leading up to the attack on New York. The drilling rig collapsed, presumably because the monster was woken. The "news footage" is here: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=9a8_1199705318
As a further tie in, the tanker that exploded in the harbor was a Tagruato ship. It seems that they woke the creature on the sea floor, ala gojira, it followed a tanker to the city, and voila.
From Abrams:"He's a baby. He's brand-new. He's confused, disoriented and irritable. And he's been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years."

184 vs. 4The only time I have heard about this country before is from this little bit of news: UN votes 184 for U.S. to drop embargo on Cuba
The annual UN vote on the U.S. trade embargo on Cuba saw support for the Caribbean island remain overwhelming, despite a call by President George W. Bush for countries to join Washington in pushing Havana toward democracy.
Canada was among 184 countries that supported the measure denouncing the embargo, which the world body passed for the 16th year.
Joining the U.S. in opposing it were close American allies Israel, Palau and Marshall Islands, while Micronesia abstained.

Herding cattle
Utah cop tasers a guy without provocation and then lies about it.
Robert Dziekanski died in Vancouver after senseless tasering by four cops. The Vancouver police department later lied about what happened.
To me it looks like the pigs are using the tasers not as less-lethal instruments to be used against dangerous suspects instead of guns, but as whips are used to herd the cattle by a bunch of cowboys (or jackals, that's what it looked like in case of Dziekanski.)
We are the cattle, and the pigs are the cowboys herding us. We are not human to them.
I always saw cops as the force used by those in power to control the masses and not for public protection, now it is only more apparent. -
Re:Fortunately...this guy, who was rude and stole a microphone? He didn't steal a microphone, he insisted on asking his question even though the event was running long.
In Hollywood they play muzac over your feed, in Florida you get tasered and arrested for inciting a riot. -
Re:Fortunately...
Seriously, that's the choice in many situations - crazy meth'd-up homeless guy charges cop with knife...cop tases or cop shoots. Which do you prefer?
OK, how about "guy starts arguing about a speeding ticket". Now is this situation worth risking the person's life using the potentially lethal taser? How about this guy, who was rude and stole a microphone? Yes, let's risk his life too. Or how about these incidents?
Police need to be aware that every time they use a taser there is a small but REAL chance that they will kill the person they are shooting. Therefore they should be a lot more hesitant before using them than they are today. If as a doctor I perform a procedure on a patient without considering (and informing him of) the risks involved, I am liable for murder if the patient dies. The police should also be accountable, just like when draw their weapons - they need a VERY good reason to do that. -

Re:Post-call Alarm "Emergency Mode", Boston, 112.
Yes. I don't think we live in the same Boston as this responder. Investing 3 hours of time for an apology?
I've been witness to incessant abuse in Boston given my position (attorney). This is the same PD that killed a girl after the Red Sox won.
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2004/10/22/postgame_police_projectile_kills_an_emerson_student/
They are aggressive and inflammatory. A great deal of interactions I have had with them go like this, even though I am being professional. (This link is a recent case in Utah.)
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=fae_1195587967&p=1
Even during the recent celebration, 37 arrests (sorry for the fox news link.)
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,305690,00.html
Of course not all cops are bad, but the culture of the PD in Boston is terrible. I keep far, far away and avoid all interactions with those jerks. -

I can't confirm this, but I think this is the original video removed from YouTube. If so, it isn't that interesting (except, perhaps, the telling title).

Re:DDOS the list by overloading it?
Is there some easy and legal way to get on the list or to put other people on it?
Do something like this and I promise you you'll be on the list. Or just wear pink. -

Fine, just make sure you don't fucking do it in Pennsylvania or you may end up in jail.

Re:Why shocking?
After all, Congress is more than willing to grant the Bush administration retroactive protection from prosecution as a war criminal... why not help his corporate buddies while they're at it?
-
Re:Hidin' in a cave
We don't need to mention Bush in every single article
Are we talking about the same Bush trying to pass a law exonerating himself from war crimes? That Bush? I think ALL of you Americans need to talk more about this bastard until he is impeached or imprisoned.
But because you Americans ARE PUSSIES, you aren't going to DO anything. I can't wait until they come for you, friend. Fortunately I live FAR away. -
Partial trascript of the guy after he's tasered...http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3ec_1190097717&p=1
There are people that know I'm here. You can't... you can't... kill me.
Oh my God, you're giving me to the government. They're giving me to the government! They're giving me to the government!
You know who I am. Will you please tell people? Will you please tell people why I'm being arrested today? I didn't do anything.
Everyone who was here today, will you please go to the police station -- ask them, where's the guy who was arrested at the protest. Ask them where's the guy who was arrested today at the John Kerry rally. They're going to try to kill me. They're going to try to kill me.
So what's the consensus? Drugs, or unassisted left-wing delusion? -
Re:Cuffed and then tasered...
Looking at one of the videos I believe he got tasered because he wasn't letting them put the cuffs on:
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=657_1190085332
2:45 - He gets put on his stomach and the officers try to pull his hands together behind his back (one officer per arm it appears)
2:51 - Right before they put the cuffs on he starts moving and yelling "Why are they arresting me"
3:00 - He starts flailing his arms around yelling "Get the F off me" and one of the officers says "Tase him"
3:08 - Taser used and shortly after the cuffs were placed on him
It does take a lot of effort even with multiple people to cuff someone who does not want to be...
Oh and aside from all this I think they should have simply thrown him out of the auditorium. But if you are getting arrested regardless whether its right or not you don't struggle like that. -
Watch it yourself
I watched three different videos of this at liveleak.com. Here's one in its entirety.
The police action was completely justified.
The guy is really out there, saying stuff like "He's been talking for two hours, I think I can have two minutes." Um, he's a presidential candidate, you're not. Also note how the crowd applauds when he is pulled away from the mike.

Re:I'm not worried about big brother.Yeah. It's a pity they didn't mention more about this. For all the technology DARPA and US is developing they still have to deal with the fall out of cameras in everyone's hands.
The impact of the photos of American 'Freedom Tickling' at Abu Ghraib had a huge effect on the US occupation of Iraq.
Now sites like Live Leak can be used by people to show video that TV networks won't show. There you can see what an IED explosion is like and what an F-18 strike run in air support looks like. Also, you can check out a 400K bomb disposal robot being destroyed.

Re:Oh ShitSure. Try this on for size. Sorry, even a smart man can play an idiot on stage. Try again. Or his views on subjugating weaker animals to violent death for entertainment. Reason & Intelligence do not lead to compassion for unintelligent creatures. In fact, it takes a measure of reason to differentiate between intelligent and unintelligent creatures. Or this quote: "America is like Canada. If you can't speak English, get the f**k out!" Makes perfect rational sense -- sorry, you're batting 0 so far. Expecting immigrants to learn the language is rational, even if it's not palatable. Or his anti-gay stance. Nope. Some of the most intelligent people who ever lived would shun a homosexual the way you'd shun a KKK member. Or his recent wearing of a confederate flag on stage. See way back on the first quote. Anyone can play on stage, and the Confederate Flag has more pull in this country than any foreign nation's flag.
You're more than welcome to belittle Ted for his positons, but call a spade a spade. He's not an ignorant, unintelligent troll. He's a bigoted, sexist, partisan troll. If he were simply unintelligent, he wouldn't be a problem -- and by assuming that only someone of lesser intelligence could disagree with you, you're not respecting his right to have a different opinion. -
Re:Oh Shit
Care to back that statement up with something a bit more substantive?
Sure. Try this on for size. Or his views on subjugating weaker animals to violent death for entertainment. Or this quote: "America is like Canada. If you can't speak English, get the f**k out!" Or his anti-gay stance. Or his recent wearing of a confederate flag on stage. Really, the man is a train wreck when it comes to exhibiting reason and positions derived by reason.
That's not to say that you aren't entitled to your own opinion of the man; mine is simply that he's not a very bright fellow. Loud, in firm possession of a platform to speak from, and with no shortage of sycophants, but none of that in and of itself is any indicator of above-average intelligence at work.

Latest News: German Government outlaws non-Windows
In a recent move, Angela Merkel has forced an amendment to the liberty laws through Der Bundestag. It is from now on prohibited to use any operating system that is non-trivial to break into.
German police have started to do house-to-house searches of Internet users reported to be not hackable by the Security Services (SS) of the Federal Government. First images can be seen on http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=9db_1178813405
More action is to follow soon, the Minister of Information of the Federal Government, who only wanted to be known by his initials, JG, confirmed:
"We have outlawed the use and ownership of any so-called security tool, to liberate Germans from FUD, Fear Uncertainty and Danger. We have outlawed any operating system that hinders the proper execution of the tasks of the SS." He promised to follow up on speculations of setting up a re-education camp for deviant Internet users in Bergen-Belsen. He asked the reporter to supply his e-mail address, in order to deliver the adequate response into her mailbox as soon as that response was ready. -

Re:American only belief? UFO fleets spotted
Well, here is some interesting video of UFO fleets over Peru and Mexico. Mass sighting mid-day. All I can say is they are unidentified, I'm not going to insist they're alien, but some of the vids I've seen before out on the net (rense/google video/youtube/etc) stuff doesn't look terrestrial or military to me.
UFO Fleet in Lima, Peru ... May 2007
Large Fleet of UFO's in the skies over Mexico City
UFO fleet over Guadalajara Mexico in 2004
Anyways, I dunno what those are. I think balloons is the wrong answer. But I've seen more video of these out there. I find it amusing/entertaining, and there are definitely some very good unexplained mysterious UFO cases out there. And I've have talked to people I trust who say they have been face to face with a real alien/ET/gray type before. So as far as I'm concerned the phenomenon is real. There are ETs here watching, interacting with a small number of humans. And then in the public it's a lot of muddy water, hoaxes, idiots, false sightings, military stuff, etc etc. It's really convoluted. But the truth is out there :-) -

Jews, Arabs... pick your minority to bash.
Or how about a bit of gay bashing? -
LiveLeakI'm somewhat surprised that LiveLeak removed it. Ever since Ogrish merged all of their content into LL you would think that this stuff would stay on with a bit more of a fight.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that if this hits Digg this video is going to be one of the most viewed on the internet. -
Is that classified?
Here is a nice video from the good american army educating the Iraqi population?
Is that the kind of classified information we should not allow the marines to post?

Let them squabbleLet the Americans and Britons squabble. And as they do this, the Russians will give them a not-so-pleasant surprise. Who cares anyway?
The American military machine, touted as the strongest, most efficient, lethal, modern and advanced, has just got a beating from AK-47 wielding thugs of IRAQ. The sad thing is that it has takes three years and almost 3,000 coalition deaths for the military authorities to acknowledge this. You no longer hear statements like "bring them on"..."We'll prevail"..."stay the course"...
Who tells these military folks that the so called modern weapon systems win today's wars?
Look, the Europeans and Americans can produce all the weapon systems they want...even with their massive debts and budget deficits. But in the end, a guerrilla with a reliable weapon like the AK-47, is more lethal than all those flying coffins. One incident that was reported were guerrillas who submerged themselves with their Ak-47s in a swamp, waited for the coalition forces to pass them, then they emerged and fired. Very few weapon systems can fire just after being under water.
"Advanced" weapon systems are of limited value in todays wars. Just ask Donald Rumsfeld who just acknowledged a few weeks ago that things are really bad. To see how and more, point your browser to http://www.liveleak.com/.
