Re:Tinfoil glasses?
Somehow, this seems more reminiscent of a different SW character: Lobot.

Mark Hamill on the muppet show.
Did anyone else see Mark Hamill guest star on the muppet show. Now that somehow was a new low...

A Planet make of Slurpee!
[homer drool sound]
Or maybe it's the Lava Lamp Planet from Star Wars. -
It's Lucas's old phone number
According to internet legend, THX-1138 was Lucas's phone number when he was in college.
References Here and
here
I don't know if it's true or not, but it's at least plausible... if you want to try to track it down some more, just Google for "thx-1138 phone number".
It shows up in a few other places, such as American Graffiti (the car driven by Harrison Ford has the plate number THX 138), and the film "Dark Star" by John Carpenter (one of Lucas's classmates), one of the toilet tanks is labeled "THX 1138" (make what you will of that - Carpenter ain't talking.)
Rumor has it that it shows up (in one form or another) in every movie that Lucas has directed. -
Star Wars Holiday Special FAQSeveral people have pointed out the prior existence of the Star Wars Holiday Special. I've you haven't seen it, please read the FAQ.
Take heed:
- 2. Where can I see the Star Wars Holiday Special?
- a. How can I forget that I saw the Star Wars Holiday Special?
That pretty much says it all. Maybe someone should post some good link about Post-Traumatic Strees Syndrome for those of use who have seen it.

Re:It couldn't be that bad.
These HAVE to be better then some of the other SW made for TV films/cartoons, ie: Ewoks, The TWO Ewok movies, and the great SW Holiday Special. I can't forget the cartoon Droids. I have a VHS copy of the SW Holiday Special and the best thing about it is the commercials from the 70s! Oh it also has the first appearance of Bobba Fett Cartoon in the middle of the special!

Re:has the targeted demographic really changed? If the Bay City Rollers had a cameo in the original Star Wars, my 12-year-old self would have been pretty turned off. Thank god Lucas had a little more sense back then.
Four words, buddy:
Perhaps not the Bay City Rollers, but you've got Jefferson Starship, as well as your Art Carney, Harvey Korman, Bea Arthur and Diahann Carroll.
And really, what says "long time ago in a galaxy far far away" more than Bea Arthur? .

Correction! It wasn't a Carol Burnett show, but a Bob Hope Christmas special! Even worse!
The formula: Star Wars space hype + Bob Hope + Olivia Newton John (!) + LAPD + Christmas
The Skinny: Some guy plays "Fluke Sleepwalker," Olivia Newton-John plays Princess Olivia and Bob Hope plays Bart Vaiter. Yes, there's a "walkie," yes, the jokes are lame, and yes Mark Hamill charges the stage and arrests Bob Hope for "malicious mutilation of a marvelous movie". I will assume Hamill was referring to Star Wars and not Hope's film "I'll Take Sweden."One imagines a young Rick Moranis watching this. Later, while wandering through the desert, high on cheap cooking wine and peyote, he sees this Indian, who tells him to audition for the part of "Dark Helmet". Moranis not only gets the part, but also tell Oliver Stone about the bit with the Indian, which he works into his film, The Doors.
Help me, Tim Conway...you're my only hope...

FAQNo one seems to have pointed out the existence of a FAQ at http://www.lucasfan.com/swtv/swholspc.txt .
A friend pointed out questions 2 and 2a after making me watch the copy he just bought earlier this year:
- 2. Where can I see the Star Wars Holiday Special?
- a. How can I forget that I saw the Star Wars Holiday Special?
If you have the misfortune of seeing it (it burns us!), pay special attention to the scene(s) with Princess Leia. Carrie Fisher is barely able to stand up - much less walk without almost falling on her ass. Of course, it has been pointed out that she was in that time for her life when she was addicted to horse tranquilizers.
