Re:Why can't they assess the situation better?
As I suspected, you have no citations, only my stats getting you really pissed off. Produce the citations, or you're just another gun nut, beholden to the NRA and it's Russian backers.
Here's your idea of a polite society, Afghanistan, where even the children are armed http://images.mid-day.com/2013... I'm certain that you can get a free all expenses pad vacation there, even a free rifle for your collection. A very peaceful place.
I'm not a liberal, and I'm armed. But you and your ilk make gun owners look like retards. Once again - howbow da citations?

Re:Make metal ilegal too...
I think a malfunction in a metallic weapon is probably more dangerous than a plastic one. I just doubt that plastic shrapnel is as deadly as metal shrapnel.
Still though, I think that would set a horrible precedent. They want to outlaw downloading it. Any material downloaded is essentially an idea - a thought, or a speech pattern, rather than a physical good. There's no sugar coating it, banning that IS censorship.
Besides, I can think of much worse ways of hurting yourself in Australia.
They call people like this "bogan".

Re:India - Egypt
Ganesh Rao,
How free are those who desecrated one of the country's oldest war memorials?
http://www.mid-day.com/news/2012/aug/140812-Mumbais-most-wanted.htm
How free are some to burn 58 people to death on a train, and then call their own community the victims?
How free is this small 11-year old girl who was arrested the other day in the country nextdoor, where particular laws are upheld by the majority faith there?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/aug/19/pakistan-christian-tensions-quran-burning-allegations
Nobody wants to go live in such countries, where a particular faith is in the majority. Because they know they'll be oppressed and discriminated against. Meanwhile some in India want to cry 'discrimination' against their faith, but they still want to flood into the country, even illegally if need be. Buddy, if someone's trying to get into a country illegally, then I'd take their complaints against that country with a grain of salt.
Meanwhile, the Mubarakcracy that runs India is only too happy to brand any patriotic or civic group as "fanatics". So that's why the situation continues to deteriorate.

Hoax?
A preliminary google search of two sets of keywords
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=Mumbai+Police+ke yloggers&num=10&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=& as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt =any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&safe=active&ie=UTF-8&o e=UTF-8
http://www.google.com/search?q=Mumbai+Police+keyst roke+loggers&hl=en&lr=&safe=active&as_qdr=all&star t=10&sa=N
reveals no reliable mainstream media source for this allegation. The only one I could find was this article from mid-day:
http://www.mid-day.com/news/city/2007/august/16316 5.htm
For those who don't know, "Mid-Day" is basically Mumbai's version of the National Enquirer, rants on about conspiracy theories and local celebrity gossip, hardly a reliable source. All the blog entries about this are based on this one mid-day article.
Of course, it could mean that I'm not searching correctly. I'd appreciate it if somebody posted any (and I mean any) information from any mainstream media outlet (and not dubious blogs). Until then, I remain skeptical and maintain that this is probably a hoax circulated by some sub-par journalist as a means to get fame, and the "Outsource victims" moaning on slashdot lapped it up swiftly, of course...
Keep in mind that the Indian media is dangerously moonbatty and very anti-establishment (borderline third-world paranoid anarchist actually). Therefore if this actually happened then the media would pounce upon it like a pack of hungry wolves. They haven't ... yet.
Has slashdot been trolled, again? -
Re:Cross-promotionCross promotion is a way of life. Everyone does it.
In Mumbai, India, there are atleast two firms which own both a newpaper http://www.timesofindia.com/ http://www.mid-day.com/ as well as a radio station http://www.radiomirchi.com/ http://www.go925fm.com/ (one of them owns a TV channel http://www.zoomtelevision.com/ and web portal http://www.indiatimes.com/ too).
There are radio shows where the RJ practically reads out the newspaper article. Not to mention the radio station's "teaser" comments about the next day's newspaper headline, or a dedicated column in the newspaper providing a prelude to a TV show at night.
A personal peeve is when one of the radio stations decided to promote a movie, with the RJs giving it fantastic reviews, completely omitting the fact that the movie was produced by the company owning the radio station.

Apparently this has already been denied by Dell:

Very little loyalty in buisness to our nation, also
IMHO, it's a national security issue. We don't need to be exporting our expertise, we need home grown expertise that will stay in America.
Big buisness uses H1-B and L-1 visas to hire employees that they can pay well under the going rate for U.S. citizens. Small buisness doesn't have the overseas connections to hire folks with this so it only serves to give big buisness even more power over the start-ups.
