Re:Not very complete
Yeah I agree, the concept is fine but the database still has a long way to go, and it looks Windows-centric, the very first submitted app is Norton AV:
http://www.softwareidb.com/?q=sidb/title/1 (Notice the title ID in the URL) (2nd is Windows), and the first submitted credit is Bill Gates: http://www.softwareidb.com/?q=sidb/name/1.
Oh, and Bill Gate's page could use a pic, why not submit one? ;) -
Re:Bill is Back, Productivity Soars
And I'm sure they all have their desktop backgrounds set to one of these:

Then and Now.Then and Now. Still not much paper, real tasks to do or any connection with the reality of daily work. It's amazing anyone would take this man's advice about doing anything but bossing people around. Forbes, once again, lives up to it's reputation of business school porn. You might as well read a playboy centerfold's essays.

Wrong DesktopMaybe Gates is more down to earth than we'd thought?
That's the receptionist's desk. His gold plated, diamond studded, virgin Brazilian hardwood desk with human skull feet and bone handles is in his office. It only has one monitor on it's running enlightenment because he got tired of mousing over three desktops and the HVAC hurricane it took to cool it all off.
Some things never change. There's not much paper on this desk either, though he did use a mac. To do lists are for people who have real tasks. One day, if he ever has something to really do and a calendar program with better todo list integration than Outlook, he'll understand how silly his "folder" organization is.
No one should take this man as a model of how to get things done, but they do. All the tasks that you and I have to do, he simply tells someone else to do. Email is everything to him. The level of control this man personally exercises over the work habits of people in big dumb companies is astounding. He's completely out of touch with real world activities, yet he exercises crazy micro control of Microsoft and Windows development. Perhaps this is one of the more important reasons M$ has yet to ship Vista. Down to Earth? Sure, if you consider your head shoved up your ass a down poisition.

Well, Gates WAS a "Person of the Year"
When is the last time a NewsAlert went out based on the words of Michael Dell or Bill Gates?
Well, I'm not sure when the last time a news alert went out about Gates but he and his wife were kind of given people of the year by Time Magazine--perhaps you heard about that. I think that constitutes some affection by the media. Having your fugly mug plastered accross a magazine time and time again surely shows some media recognition.
Michael Dell has little to do with innovation. He's a brilliant businessman but I do not think his job function entitles him to media attention like Gates or Jobs. Dell sells computers, they don't invent them or the software they run. His expertise is reliability and customer support. Definitely an important figure head in the sale of computers but not so much the invention side.
I should point out that Gates won that probably because of all the money he and his wife donate to charities. The guy is a vaccine giving maniac no matter how much you hate his software. Oh and he is hott . -
Re:Pricing
Oh they can go that low. I've heard Microsoft takes huge losses in the game console market, why not the mp3 market? ... (although I doubt they'll go that low) ...
When you're stupid rich, sometimes going home and sticking thousand dollar bills in your ears or posing for Teen Beat magazine just isn't enough ... -
Re:thats it...You're just taking your gloves off *now*??
M$ has been playing dirty since the days Bill posed for "Teen Beat" magazine http://blog.monkeymethods.org/2005/01/bill-gates-
s trikes-pose-for-teen-beat.html -
Pocket protectors have been around forever.
Popular media starring "geeks" are nothing new. See Egon Spengler and Louis from Ghostbusters. See Erkel (if you must). Or Melvin Belvin (Happy Days). Or this delightful spread of Mr. Gates.
If anything, "geekdom," in America at least, is in decline. During the space race, NASA engineers were revered. Now they are the subject of mockery. There was a time when the public was excited about the release of new American cars. And as the summary states, computer science is less enticing to young scholars.
Two poorly crafted calendars and a movie starring a geek who is enjoyable because he is amusing (to some) do not a watershed moment make. "Vote For Pedro" shirts are an homage to MTV (the organization that produced and popularized the film) that have nothing to do with reading engineering texts for fun, spending all your spare time programming, or being the proud owner of a slide rule. -
Look at this picture and tell me he isn't stoned..
Looks like he just finished a grueling bong session to me...

Re:For DnDers
Perhaps some kindly soul her will do D&D monster stats for "The Ballmer Beast" or "Bad Billy the Evil Pixie"...
Well, I got the picture to use in the Monster Manual -
Re:Future of Microsoft?
The one that makes me want to throw things at the telly is where the girl says she'll make an album about breaking up with her boyfriend. With "a world of windows compatible software and devices", apparently.
This is clearly a swipe at GarageBand, but er... nothing like that comes bundled with windows.
I think her breakup has made her flip out into a fantasyland. I blame the boyfriend.

Re:No big surprise
Well there's always that photo spread of Bill Gates back in (I think) the 80's for Teen Beat Magazine http://blog.monkeymethods.org/2005/01/bill-gates-
s trikes-pose-for-teen-beat.html :-) -
Re:No big surprise
Huh ? Insightful ?
I still would like better Bill Gates posing for a Teen Beat Photospread than Osama. -

Re:This IS entertaining
if Bill asked me to infect the mothership, I'd probably sue him for sexual harassment.

Re:It all fits...Regarding that picture: you should check what Snopes has to say on it:
These images are actually publicity photos taken of the then 30-year-old Bill Gates coincident with the initial release of Microsoft Windows in 1985. The Corbis photo archive identifies their depiction thusly: "Bill Gates, CEO of Microsoft, reclines on his desk in his office soon after the release of Windows 1.0. 1985 Bellevue, Washington, USA."

Re:It all fits...the new goatse.
That was disgusting! Shame on you for posting a link to that picture!
I'm going to have to wash my eyes out with soap. Ewww. I'm gonna puke.

It all fits...
I believe I speak for everyone when I say..
"That explains SO much."
"All I can say is WOW." very...apt statment.
"Apparently, there was a big demand for integrating 'LOTUS 1-2-3 with Miami Vice.'" no crap? I mean....whoa!
"$500 dollars? $1000 dollars?" . . .
You're right. I can no longer say that MS has no sense of humor.
Oh how I wish that was a false statment...I mean, it even goes along with the new goatse. -

Here's a mirror, another blog.
AND... for the real freaks out there who need more than 2 photos, here are two other pics (one, two) from the same day (well, he's wearing the same clothes, anyway; I guess that doesn't mean much), a classic early MS photo (NOT a hoax, despite the domain name), and Billy G's mugshot. -
