Re:3 minutes on google gives us...
Surprised no one else put this one up, but Monster Salary has pretty detailed jobs and geographic regions.

Re:Those jobs will vanish
Here's 14 pages of job postings for COBOL programmers.
Yes, I realize that's nothing compared to the 100+ for Java programmers, but you clearly missed his point. -
Re:Apathetic...
Look at the list of job openings at Fort Meade on Dice or Monster. If memory serves correctly, maybe 1 in 10 jobs in the Baltimore/Washington area required a clearance prior to 9/11; now it's more like 1 in 3. It's getting hard to find an IT job that's NOT national security related in this part of the country.

Re:"Titanic Saturn"telephone sanitizers - Please tell me that's not a real profession but something you made up for the joke?
Look real, but seems the job postings I can find aren't so specialized to focus on telephones.

That hasn't been my experience. I signed up for the Monster.com networking thing, and all it does is send me periodic messages stating "other people who are like you". What am I supposed to do with this?
Crap. I get far more kudos from people e-mailing me to ask about or compliment source code and articles I post on my web site, and often times they contribute code back to me.

Re:Yeah, bit of a difference.
Weirdness with your first query... looking at those 79 results, they all appear to the in the state of Michigan... But curiously, when I click the "next page" link, the results banner changes to say "jobs 51-100 of 4430" or so. But, skimming through the first few, they still all appear to be in Michigan, but it seems like Monster has changed the query terms, because there's a lot more crap listed than perl / unix / scripting / linux stuff.
Anyway, I went to the main monster.com query page, ran a query against the entire US, using your search terms, and go back over 5000 listings.
results here
What does all this mean? I have no idea, but I think there are more than 79 jobs in the U.S. of the type you're looking for. -
Yeah, bit of a difference.
I ran my Monster query [(unix or linux) AND (perl OR shell OR scripting OR debian OR "red hat" OR solaris OR admin OR administrator OR web OR apache) AND NOT "work at home"] against US jobs:
Query Results
Then the SAME query against Indian jobs:
Query Results
79 for US, 3,433 for India. Yep, and now I'm even more depressed, and that's saying quite a bit. I have GOT to get out of this industry as soon as possible. -
Found this SCO job on Monster.com
I just found this very interesting help-wanted ad on Monster.com. You can read all of it here.
Job Description: SCO Unix Contractor
Qualified candidate will need to recover root passwords and change them, plus store securely for future use if need be.
Candidate needs to be able to understand file structure & applications running on machine(s) & determine if it is possible for the contractor to support the systems until June of this year.
I wonder what the story is behind this one... it looks like SCO is about to be thrown off of a site. -
This is hilarious!

A C to sail them on.
Designers in abundance, salesmen all around but what I need is a coder and a C to sail them on.
But this C is tiny and difficult to sail so I'll hand them all an upgrade to C++ and let them wail.
This shrieking is ill met, I stop and look profound as I have a solution it's C pound.
My coders all have left me with this ugly stinking mess I should have not given them more and more but merely better less. -

What is the Actual Cost of Slashdot Access?
Wow, this topic really got me thinking. All that time I spend every day deleting spam, driking coffee, having toilet breaks. It all adds up. It's amazing I every get time do any work.
In fact, I've just figured out that if we can shut down slashdot - maybe feature it on a front page article and get it slashdotted - we could scape together enough coin to fulfill George Bush Juniors plan of putting a person on Mars.
Do the math:
800,000 Readers a day
30 Minutes a day to scan the front page and browse at level 5
$30 Per hour wage, these are _mostly_ employed geeks after all
$24,000,000,000 Annual lost time cost, assuming a 40 hour week, 50 weeks of the year. -
Chicken and the egg
> for supposed nerds, you'd think more of them would have more of a clue about the various facets of computing.
Perhaps we would have experience if we could just break into the damn industry. There are no entry-level sysadmin jobs. Everyone wants tons of experience, so those of us who aspire to be great admins can never have the level of experience required. Meanwhile, we dwell with the other bottom feaders in code-monkey land...
All we have is our home network and just enough money to pay rent and treat the girlfriend once in awhile.

New spammers everywhere...... check out what the Herbalife and other MLM scumbags are doing to Monster.com. This phenomenon appears to be spreading over the entire net.
I have used Monster.com on several occasions, and even found a contract there a couple of times, and I was even considering advertising on their site. In just the last week or so, however, I have noticed a new trend that is rapidly rendering Monster.com completely worthless. Seems that my current job search agents (for C++/C#/Java programming) are returning dozens of hits -- but almost all for Multi-Loser-Marketing scams (mostly Herbalife, aka Global Online Systems--this is one of several thousand of their replicated websites) and ads for services that purport to teach me how to "work at home" for a membership fee.
I have complained to Monster, and they have replied that yes, this is a violation of thier TOS, and yes, they would remove the ads that I called to their attention. Just for grins, I checked this morning to see just how many such ads there were on Monster, and found over 5,000 of the Herbalife ads, and about 1,000 of the "work at home" membership ads. This appears to be primarily the output of 3 organizations, with Herbalife 'distributors' responsible for the largest portion. If this is the beginning of a trend, then every MLM and suckerbait outfit on earth is going to be putting their crap there by the end of next week, drowning the legitimate job ads in the noise. For example, my last search produced exactly one legitimate job opening in the last 2 days, and 10 listings for a "work at home" service. (How many legitimate businesses actually use the word 'legitimate' in their names, anyway?)
While tracking down the perpetrators of the most egregious ads, I came across this description of just what Herbalife is, and the damage being done to the Sacramento area by Herbalife 'distributors'. Very interesting read. These scumbags are making spammers look good... OTOH, it sure seems to me that Monster needs to clean up its act, too. They obviously can't remove these fraudulent ads as fast as the MLM victims post them, so they need to start preventing them from getting there in the first place. -

Domino Administrator jobs
Your search - Domino Administrator wanted - did not find any openings.
--Monster.com
Monster.com has 26 jobs listed.
Dice.com has 20 jobs listed.
JustNotesJobs.com has 16 jobs in the U.S.
If you are going to troll, at least do it correctly.
---
The problem with finding Domino Administrator jobs is:
1. The people in those jobs are rather highly paid for an computer administration position. In 2000, Certified Lotus Professional System Administrators averaged $89,000.
2. They do not need to worry about viruses beyond choosing and installing a mail filter/virus protection, since no viruses have hurt Lotus Notes yet. The virus protection checks those virus-prone Word files, and helps if users are using MSOutlook as the mail client.
3. The number of administrators needed for a company running Notes and Domino is much less than the same company running Exchange. This is anecdotal from personal experience. I know a 500 person company that grew from one person doing Notes Admin work part-time in a computer department of 2 people to 2 full-time Exchange Admins with 10 people in the computer department, at a time when the company was shrinking. A 30,000+ employees company went from 10 Notes administrators maintaining their own servers to 60 Exchange administrators with the servers maintained by a different group. This is only the Administration side, application development costs skyrocketed while application rollouts almost disappeared after the switch.
Domino Administrators are happy, and companies of any size do not need very many of them. There is little turnover, and so there are few jobs to be filled. (Besides, who is going to quit with today's job market?)
---
To be on-topic, Lotus/IBM releases updates at least quarterly. The updates usually add functionality, and fix crashes due to very unique circumstances. I only remember 2 that were for security issues. One was only an issue if the option to use MSIE as the browser was selected. The other was only an issue if Notes Designer was run in a certain configuration without a firewall. None of the updates are "critical". I just upgraded one large company's server from Domino 5.0.2 because the hardware was being replaced.
To be fair, while Domino is a platform, it is not an OS. It relies on Unix, Linux, or MSWindows for its file protection. If you are running MSWindows, you may need some of these patches. Then again, if Domino is only running mail, web applications, and Notes client applications, you can turn off most of the vulnerable MS services. -

Confusion
Sorry, but this list can't be just cold calling telemarketers, they must be help desk types, right? So, if thats the case, why does the ATA lead me to believe that these non-nagging telephone jobs have anything to do with the do-not-call list? I think they are lumping the two in the same boat to make up that "2 million jobs".
