Re:Move to Amend
We could overturn the Citizen's United ruling with new legislation that ends corporate personhood.
Doing so would not end capitalism, it would not make us socialism, it would bring about healthier business and healthier government.
Unfortunately, I don't believe there is any way to "fix" for-profit corporations because of their charter. The only option is to remove for-profit corporations as a business entity and only leave non-profit corporations. There shouldn't be a need for the protections a corporation offers if the company isn't doing anything illegal.

Let's fix that. -
Re:Senator? Clean up your own shit first!
He's a manager - he needs to understand the 20,000 foot view. Unfortunately, these guys don't seem to even get that. This bill was probably written by lobbyists and given to the Senator with a nice big contribution check to his re-election campaign.
Jeez... Ya think?
Seriously, campers. This is how it works. In the U.S. Senate, campaign contributors are the constituents, not the voters. You can fix this, but you have to start getting involved and supporting candidates who will support a Constitutional amendment that will remove corporate money from U.S. politics. https://movetoamend.org/ -
Re:Trump is out for Trump
The GOP has (not for the first time), the perfect opportunity to affect real change. They could probably push through constitutional amendments limiting money in politics. They could enact term limits. They could improve healthcare by expanding medicaid.
There are dozens of things they could do.
But we know they won't. They will make moves to consolidate their power and prevent others from taking seats from them. Otherwise, it's business as usual, let the palm greasing and ass kissing commence. -

I've been waiting for an excuse....
I signed on to Frontier DSL service with the representative insisting that I would get 6Mb service despite my many attempts to get her to qualify that as a max possible speed, and tell me what I should actually expect. She wouldn't hear any of it, 6Mb is what I was getting...
It's been a fairly reliable 1.5Mb max for the past 2 years, never more, at $30/mo.
I've got a "30Mb" service offer for $10-15/mo more from Country Cablevision that I may have to try out since Frontier seems to want more than it provides....If any of you are tired of watching the corporations run our government please consider adding your name to this cause: http://www.movetoamend.org/

Re:It doesn't matter what party you vote for
movetoamend.org isn't taking away the right of any individual, or group to speak. It's about taking away the big $/corporate bullhorn effect when most actual human beings don't have that access. $ is not speech. Legal fictions are not the flesh and blood human beings addressed in the Constitution. The NRA, PETA, Exxon, etc. should have the INDIVIDUAL voices of all the INDIVIDUALS backing their organization working together as influence, not the influence of "$ as speech" used by corporate interests bullhorn style claiming to represent all their members when not all those members may actually back that "speech". IMHO...

It's been staring us in the face...
... for quite a while now. American voters have got to break free of the 2-party system. If we don't accomplish a major overhaul of elected officials to a new crew of 3rd party/independent faces SOON, it's gonna be game over. We need a critical mass of politicians operating with the firm knowledge that the ammo box is apparently all we voters have left to get our message across if they don't get with the program.
For starters, I'd say any candidate who can't get behind this simple, direct effort to undo the Citizen's United fiasco... http://www.movetoamend.org/ should be eliminated from consideration. Please add your signature to the cause and mebbe we'll get this in some faces in time to do some good.
I've been preaching and voting for a few decades to try to break the rest of you from the MSM lie that you must vote dem/rep or, horror of horrors, you might get someone from the OTHER party elected... :eyeroll:
Do me proud America, show the world we eventually come around and flex our collective freewill might as no other nation in history. Vote every last one of the scoundrels out and replace them with anything BUT dem/rep candidates everywhere possible. If that strikes you as "silly" or "crazy" then answer this for me... how's it going with the dem/rep answers...? -

Re:Doctors: Whiny bitches, all of 'em.
Yes, once again we see that despite the rhetoric, "Doctors are too full of themselves...", the real problem is Management. They only worry about the bottom line, give into unreasonable demands (arbitrarily, because they'll fight it if they feel like it), and engage in cronyism. All of this destroys any chance for EMR to work.
For similar examples of Management screw ups with different whipping boys see:
* Automaker Unions
* Unions in General
* Teachers in American schools
*Too big to fail banks
Our system is not capitalism, it is (mis)managementism, and we need a change. Corporations are the main driver of this travesity, let fix things. -

Re:Can Iowa handle a circus that large?
Overturning Citizens United will require a constitutional amendment. Have you done your part to move that process forward yet? Here are a couple of things you can do:
1. Visit MoveToAmend.org and sign the petition.
2. Visit Wolf-PAC.com and volunteer.
3. Contact all of your elected representatives at every level of government and make sure they know where you stand on the issue of corporate personhood, and why.

Re:Soon, this will be normal
I like how your solution to corruption is censorship. Yep, the best way to prevent this is prevent people from putting on ads for campaigns unless the federal government deems them allowed.
In what way is it censorship? The proposed constitutional amendment can be seen at this link. Note that there is nothing that says you can't put out ads or campaigns; no one in government has to approve your campaign. The only restriction is that CORPORATIONS are not people with voting rights and therefore cannot contribute money to campaigns. Which makes sense; a corporation is not a thinking entity, "it" only does what its CEO and upper management decide. Effectively, the corporation becomes a vehicle for the opinions of upper management, which the new amendment to the constitution will say is wrong. The CEO can have whatever opinion he wants as a private citizen, and back any campaign he wants as a private citizen, but he is NOT allowed to use the money and influence of his company to spread his message further -- it is an unfair advantage over the rest of the voting public and subverts true democratic debate and processes.
The only thing this is likely to solve it making it illegal to point out this is happening, which might be your objective.
Again, nothing about this amendment stifles a citizen's rights, only CORPORATIONS (which we declare are not people). You still have full 1st amendment rights, for example, and are free to speak out against government. We just require that you disclose publicly who you gave money to as a private citizen; you aren't allowed to funnel money through a company anymore to hide the fact that you are donating way more money than the average person (which is what some are doing with corporations and PACs, effectively using them to skirt already on-the-books current election law on donation limits). We want to make sure every citizen has the chance the speak up, rather than only the elite that can go around laws with the corporations.

Move to Amend needs your support......
"We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights. "

Re:I'm assuming here...
I think it's well established now through various supreme court decisions that the only way left to enact real campaign contribution reform in the USA is through a constitutional amendment. Support one of the various organizations that are pushing for that:

Re:Back to One Man, One Vote

Do Something About It
Whatever court decision decided that corporations are people too was garbage.
That would primarily be the Citizens United v FEC court decision of 2010, and further backed up by the recent McCutcheon decision of 2014, though of course other little laws and regulations contribute.
If you would like to do something about it, I would encourage you to join a group such as the WolfPAC and Move to Amend. A couple state legislatures (California and Vermont, I believe) have *already* passed bills calling for a constitutional convention to propose a new constitutional amendment that puts into law that corporations do not have the rights of people, and there is similar pending legislation in many other states. Call/write your state congressmen today and get it done, and we can put this nonsense behind us. It is not impossible, it has been done in past history and is already starting to happen now; I'm sure you haven't heard it on the news, but it is happening. Get involved in making history!

Re:Reality Intrudes
Republicans are not running the show.
Hardly matters. Both parties are more-or-less "owned" by the corporate oligarchy, the Democrats are just a bit less brazen about it. (I'm too lazy to look up the numbers right now, but I'm sure you know Obama got a LOT of help from Wall Street to get elected.)
saying that the financial sector has been de-regulated. This is absurd
The repeal of Glass-Steagal was a pretty huge step in that direction. (And it was signed into law by Clinton, another "friend" of Wall Street.)
The only hope I see of changing things is a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and get some "regulation" of money in politics. As long as corporate "big money" keeps running the show, politicians will have little if any incentive to serve The People.
The two most prominent efforts to enact such an amendment (that I know of) are MoveToAmend.org and Wolf-PAC.com.
MoveToAmend is a petition drive and lobbying group pushing for Congress to pass an amendment at the federal level. They also get local governments to pass resolutions calling for such an amendment. Wolf-PAC is a more grass-roots/guerrilla effort. Their philosophy is to bypass the federal government altogether (on the theory that the current "corporate owned" Congress will never pass such an amendment) and lobby the states to call for an Article V convention on this specific issue.
-
Re:Liberal strategy
anyone who thinks that either party is for the "common guy," they are delusional. Simply delusional.
No, of course, they are both "owned" by their corporate masters (including unions, PACs, et.al.) and differ only in the flavor and consistency of their BS. It's been building a long time, but the 2010 Citizens United SCOTUS decision was a major tipping point -- over the proverbial cliff.
Since this results from a Supreme Court decision, the only way to fix is with a constitutional amendment. If you would like to change it, check out MoveToAmend.org and Wolf-PAC.com. Sign and propagate the petitions. Get active. Contact your representatives at all levels.
The 26th Amendment was proposed and ratified in just over 100 days, back in 1971. This can be done.

Re:Impeach Obummer!
The question is: What is Obama the figurehead of? It's not just the military-industrial complex, it's morphed into a much larger corporate octopus comprising the half-dozen of so largest in banks, chemical companies, oil companies, etc. And it has near total control of the US government.
The root of all this evil is a string of SCOTUS decisions which over the years have established the legal fiction of "corporate personhood." Citizens United would never have even come up if corporations weren't already considered as "artificial persons" under the constitution.
The only solution I can see, realistically, is a constitutional amendment. Here are two organizations working toward that goal right now. Check 'em out, and lend a hand.
