Re:Words of caution
I've lost files that way, but never - ever- an entire NTFS volume. Regardless, you are supposed to eject all removable storage (flushes write-back cache) prior to pulling the plug. Because you didn't do that, you got the "Delayed write failed" message.
FYI, you can create shortcut that will bring you to the eject USB device window. It's the same as the one located in the system tray. Below is the link with simple instructions.

Speeding up Acrobat: The lowdown
Look here for Acrobat load speedup tips. Or, um, Google it
;)
Disclaimer: I was motivated to find this for my Windows work machine as OS X's Preview.app loads PDF's like nobody's business. -
Re:OK then.
While I seem to remember Win 3.1 running is less than 32 MB of RAM, I don't think it could boot from floppy.
Actually it can boot from a floppy, but only if you hack it to ;) I remember running windows under 4MB of ram, and when they made web browsers that could actually browse the web with that little ram. -
Re:IE Crashes On Valid HTML!
Don't forget this one either. (Mind you, this one has been fixed in XP SP2)

Re:New features
A much better list of new features in this preview release can be found here. Nice screenshots included.
A more detailed list of changes can be found here.
Overall, I'm pretty excited that this new release actually has new features, and is not simply a more polished and stable 0.9. The new find toolbar will greatly improve the usability of type-ahead find, and the 'LiveBookmarks' feature is promising.
Also of note, there is a new 'Information Toolbar' that appears in the top area notifying the user if a popup has been blocked. It's an idea pinched from IE6 SP2, but a good one. It's also used to notify the user if an extension installation failed.
Having the adress bar get a padlock icon and turn yellow when on an encrypted site is also a welcome change. This kind of feature would hugely enhance the 'Secure Browser' image firefox is trying to sell.
Am I switching yet? No, I'm going to wait up to a few days till the extensions I use (adblock, dictionary search, image zoom and a few others) are updated. Can't wait -
Screenshot of Winstripe in 0.9.1
Here's a screenshot of winstripe in 0.9.1.
Looks much better than in 0.9 if you ask me. Good Job! -
ClearType screenshot
Can someone with a regular CRT tell me whether that Windows theme screenshot looks discolored on the font antialiasing? It is a screenshot of a machine that is using ClearType to enhance the appearance on an LCD monitor, because you can see a slight red coloration on the left edge of the font and a slight blueness on the right, if you zoom in.
I don't think it's a good idea to publish screenshots taken from machines using ClearType. They look better if the viewer has an LCD monitor with matching subpixel arrangement, but probably worse for other users. -
Re:Am I the only one..
Neil Turner points out that this version has "A 3% increase in general speed".
Startup will be a tiny bit slower because of the 7zip compression of the executable files. -
Re:Definately a bad choice on the part of the devs
It doesn't look like that in Windows or Linux. Go here for Windows screenshots.

Friendly environmentally
We are the first linux distribution to offer a 64-bit top-to-bottom solution which is not a toy environment.
Kind of defeats the purpose of all computing, which is to run on LEGO.
Let me know when you have a 64-bit top-to-bottom solution which is a toy solution, and I'll know 64-bit computing has finally arrived (think about it). -
Try Media Player Classic
Like all of the above, I too got fed up with anything Real has put out lately, for obvious reasons. That and it spontaneously reboots everyone's machines here in the lab.
Did some searching, found Media Player Classic (Article)- it's an open source clone of Windows Media Player before it got all colorful, space wasting, and less functional (WMP 8-9). Plus, with a bit more Google searching, I found Real codec packs for it as well. On the rare occasion I need to play Real content, I can.
