Hong Kong Already Has This
I was in Hong Kong this spring, most pay phones already have WiFi, along with many buses, most subway stations, trains, coffee shops and more. Instead of buying a mobile phone while I was there, I just turned off my cell signal and used Skype on my Android. $7/mo/device (USD) for unlimited WiFi in the city with PCCW. http://www.hongkongextras.com/internet_access.html http://wireless.netvigator.com/eng/index.htm

Not too bad... how about 1,000 MBps?
Available NOW, not in a few years?
Hong Kong has it. 30 Mbit (down, 10 Mbit up) for cheap (about USD 33 per month) and up to 1,000 Mbit for those with more money to waste (about USD 280 per month). This is for residential use, by the way. Available in residential buildings.
Admittedly not available everywhere (like for me: I only can get traditional ADSL but then I'm living in a village so no surprise there), still this is nothing new. Good for the UK that they are catching up with their former colony.

Re:Quick Question
FYI - Verne's originally intended Nemo to be Polish, and Russia the country he had a grudge against. See note 139.

Re:No matter how many tunes they put on Itunes...
At least you didn't get suckered into buying DCC tapes.

In the other news
I actually used some of these, these and these to build
some of these. They
tried to stop me by using these
and these
but I did not give in!
I know a guy and he helped me to bring these in so we could design and design some more and build some of these and these and fight everyone off and scary the rest.
So finally, I could use more of
these and these and these to get my freakingly cool nuclear powered microprocessor.

Hutchison CT2 / Wireless Broadband in Hong KongHutchison launched the CT2 service in HK in 1992. A reason it did not take off was related to the lack limited range and no roaming. It was around the same time that GSM networks were launched in HK. Here's a timeline of the various roll outs in HK.
The major ISP's in HK are now wiring up the popular locations like coffee shops, malls locations where people can sit down with their notebooks and surf the net or VPN back into work. The best wireless service is provided by Netvigator. I've yet to see anyone hooked into the net with a wireless connection in HK.
Anyways
.. just a couple of pointers from Hong Kong for those who care. :) -

"I can sense tones up to 21KHz or so
... "
Yeah, right.
This isn't an uncommon claim. Go look, keeping in mind that I said "sense" (which some of the below translate as "feel"):

Re:Chinese as english complexity
It takes more effort to learn, but Changjie is faster (page is in Chinese, but the rightmost column pretty much explains how it works). You know that recent James Bond movie with the Chinese girl? The Chinese computer they showed had a Changjie keyboard.

Re:I hope...Ugh. I would want to see how you decorate your apartment.
That's like saying that the butt-ugly cars of the 70s with all the sharp angles and points look better than the smooth rounded cars of today (just take a look at the new Mercedes C class!).
