Although no update came out for the 3G iPods, if you auto-update a Podcast onto a 3G iPod, it'll create a playlist called Podcasts in the Playlists menu.
My 4G click wheel gets a Podcasts menu item right under Music instead of the 3G where you have to go Music -> Playlists -> Podcasts.
So I'd say the functionality is there, and it works.
Man, thank you. I think South Park was really the first full blown TV show to have mass distribution on the Internets back then, although maybe the Simpsons did, too. At least there were less episodes of South Park to download.
Ah, those were the days. Making the RMs with an old PowerMac 7600 and its built-in video capture hardware and then putting them up on berniec.com for limited download. You can thank my employer at the time for all of the bandwidth.
For all the people that didn't have Comedy Central at the time, getting episodes this way only made the franchise more successful.
Um, you're wrong. I have a DCT-6412 from Comcast and this past weekend I just weeded out all of the channels I don't want to see. I'm not in front of my TV, but I believe you have to go to the menu -> setup -> channel list. From there you can edit the list of channels available and remove all the crap channels and non-subscribed channels you don't want to see.
The Comcast box also does have a favorite channels feature. I believe that list is also set up in the same place, and that there's a favorites button on the remote control that allows you to quickly scan through those favorites.
Heh, awesome. I was going to comment about how it's stupid stories like these that make me not want to visit Slashdot. It's about as good as the XP SP2 blew up my compooter, M$ sucks donkey balls!
Rated PG-13 for brief language.

Remember, Slashdotters panned the iPod when it was introduced. They're doing exactly the same thing here. I really get a kick out of reading some of these braindead posts.
Battery life! OGG! What? Only 12 songs?! It's not a Newton! Apple is dying! I won't buy it until it has X feature AAC sucks, X format r0x0rs yo!
Okay okay, so some people are posting positive comments, but they seem to get lost in the pointless hand waving from the haters. Thanks everybody - In a years time, this phone will be a success and you'll STILL be bitching about not having OGG support on X device.
Yeah, too bad it's standard on every DV camcorder in the industry. Real shame, that.

It does have a calendar. It does have an address book. It does have a text reading app. It does have a game (three on the 3rd gen and higher units).
Granted, the device is a music player. And it excels at being that. The other stuff does not get in the way. That's one of the things about it that makes it so nice to use. It's got a lot of stuff in it, but it isn't cluttered.
So how could they start offering a download format that averages around 45 megs per song and not loose even more money on the bandwidth?
Apple Lossless is an encoding scheme for music you import into iTunes, not music you buy from the iTunes Music Store. iTMS still uses 128kbps AAC files.
You don't have to pay for the component after a QuickTime update. You can view past orders on the Apple store and re-download the updated MPEG-2 component. I've had to do this after two Quicktime updates that broke the component.
I mean, sure, the Veyron is a beautiful car, but who cares about beauty when you can ride in style!
Case in point, my 1975 AMC Pacer is oozing style. With its 258 cubic inch 6-cylinder beast of burden under the hood, this baby really lets the fellas and the ladies know what's what.
Who says you need seven gears? Ha! I only need the three that my Pacer has. No need for overdrive here... ya see, back in the day, cars didn't need it - the speed limit was still 55. Ahhhs yeah.
I could go on, but let's be real here. The Pacer is where it's at. There's no doubting it.
It ate my file when I tried it last night. The conversion worked just fine, but I couldn't get the resulting file to play via the Finder on my Mac. In fact, it crashed the Finder. I didn't feel like doing the same to iTunes. I am running 10.3.3 on a dual 1.42GHz G4 PowerMac.
And when the hardware box has a 0-day exploit and a worm gets loose before the patch, what then?
I'd rather my hardware firewall be exploited and/or DoS'd because it doesn't have GB upon GB of data on it that could potentitally be lost. And yes, I back up my data. A lot of users don't, though.
Note that one of the drive bays on the Xserve was dropped in order to add two air intakes the front of the chassis. I'd say there are heat issues and this is the only way to deal with them. Don't expect the G5 in the PowerBook anytime soon, unless Apple's rumored tests with liquid cooling produce something useful.
Since it's sponsored not by ads, but by donations, PBS doesn't need to worry about advertisers jumping ship after a program like that airs. And, the FCC is reactionary in their actions, so they won't put the kibosh on anything before it airs.
Any broadcaster can air what it wants... but it's the consequences afterwards that scare them into self-censorship.

It's right on the front page of startrek.com. Fridays at 8pm/7pm Central on UPN.

Hrm... just imagine if they talked more.
3G data speeds would allow for near-streaming of tracks. That'd be cool. Imagine if it had Internet radio support.

Are we soon going to have large populations of mutant radioactive animals here?
Sure, just as soon as these radioactive animals really mutate and fly across the Atlantic to the states. Pigs will fly. Radioactive pigs, that is.

I should get to work on that. Yikes! ;-)
Although they ain't perfect, at least they're not running on your computer. Yikes.

Be on the lookout for Record Producer 1.0 in next year's installment of iLife.
