Re:"the borderline between gas and liquid"
Conversion between gas and liquid would help in the formation of life precursors, since the phase changes could help concentrate compounds in acqueous solution, resulting in greater rates of reaction.
Your point is sound. But why do you need the temperature to be near boiling? Even if it isn't, evaporation is going to take place, causing the primordial broth of any lake to become more concentrated as long as there isn't any inflow of water. It happens here on Earth as well, isn't that why the Dead Sea is so salty?
(Okay, I know that the closer the temperature is to boiling, the greater will be the rate of evaporation, making concentration more likely. The only reason I posted this is to bring up the Dead Sea. Did you know that the Dead Sea is an endorheic basin? And that the shore or remnant of such a basin is known in US and Mexico as ... a playa ? And any nigga who don't like that ain't nothin' but a playa hater, aight?) -

Isn't pimping illegal?
No, I believe you are thinking of the fact that Pimping is, in fact, hard work:

Re:It's all to fight terrorism ..
I was talking to some folks at work who were crabbing about how they had replaced all their old tapes and records for CD's over the years, and how much all that cost. One lady's kid has more than her, yet she paid (of course for all of it). I informed them that they had the opportunity to get in on some cash back since the RIAA sucks donkey balls; of course I didn't say it like that.
Point is... they didn't know about the settlement. I said that's what happens when you don't get involved in your government. Laws that allow companies to do illegal business get passed. Worse, the government itself puts laws in place that are horribly detrimental to the very people it seeks to protect. Same thing happened in Germany between 1919 - 1933; those damned commies, can't trust 'em. For some reason, rationale people didn't make rationale decisions and somehow that crazy fuck Hitler got into office.
We all gotta do our part. Get involved. Watch your government, or better, be your government!
By all means necessary... What I call violence, I can't do , but your kind of violence is stopping me. -

Re:No escape from the CULTURE
An individual's decision to turn the TV off does not change that- it's a "head in the sand" response.
It doesn't directly change what happens to the culture, no. But it changes what happens to you, so it's not in any way a "head in the sand" response. And by changing yourelf, you have made a very small change in the culture...one that might even propagate. ("Hey, you see Survivor last night?" "Nope. I was reading Walden." "What's that about?" "Let me tell you. You want to borrow my copy?")
Yes, I watch TV, but just like any other drug I set parameters to make sure my use stays healthy.

Re:Console
THPS3's hip soundtrack includes Redman's 'Let's get dirty', and the Gamecube version has a little bit of extra censorship. You can guess what words were digitally excised from 'My dress code is all black when I'm making the moves/Similar to the new PlayStation 2.'

Re:*yawn* ANOTHER useless MS post on slashdot....
How about an offtopic useless MS post on slashdot? I just found out that I can no longer go to msn.com using mozilla as a browser. In fact it says
"If you are seeing this page, we have detected that the browser that you are using will not render MSN.com correctly. Additionally, you'll see the most advanced functionality of MSN.com only with the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer. If you wish to visit MSN.com, please select the appropriate download link below." It then lists links to Explorer for Windows, Mac and MSN explorer for windows.
Apparently I can not go
"HOME where my thought's escaping,
HOME where my music's playing,
HOME where my love lies waiting...silently for me"
with Mozilla taking me there.
Maybe the theme song for msn should be "Cell Therapy" by Goodie Mob with its "But every now and then, I wonder If the gate was put up to keep crime out or to keep our ass in" -
Yesterdays WSJ
There is an article in yesterdays (Thurs 9/27/01) Wall Street Journal about how Biometrics wouldn't have helped in the terrorism case, that is, it wouldn't have worked in picking up the faces of the two guys who they have on tape passing through Maine's airport. Basically the article says that face recognition technology doesn't work as effective as they hawk it out to. Actually following the hijackings the companies developing biometric products went on record saying that if their products had been in place then this would have been averted and their stocks rocked up. The WSJ puts a doubt on that. Their point, or the point of the person they interview who agues that it doesn't work that well is that cameras would have to zoom in and cover each face for longer than a camera in an open space like an airport or a football stadium possibly could be expected to.
It actually puts some stats to the Superbowl Biometrics scam where they used face-recognition at last years SB. Turns out that of the 11 or howeverthefuckmany people they said they nabbed, most, were not correct matches.
I used to get mad at the opening track on Mos Def's Black on Both Sides when he says
You got a lot of socities and governments
tryin to be God, wishin that they were God
They wanna create satellites and cameras everywhere
and make you think they got the all-seein eye
Eh.. I guess The Last Poets wasn't, too far off
when they said that certain people got a God Complex
I believe it's true
I don't get phased out by none of that, none of that
helicopters, the TV screens, the newscasters, the..
satellite dishes.. they just, wishin
They can't really never do that
Hell yeah they can! Well, at least for now, maybe they can't. In any event, if you have a WSJ from yesterday lying around. A very good piece.
