Re:At least it's not a "For Dummies" book
It's good to know that users still do have a choice.

shameless plug and a question...
I really enjoy both BoFH and JoT... both are fine reads online -- will have to check out the print editions to see for myself...
Hoping that one day I'll get my 'toon, the PC Weenies in print. Speaking of which, any good resources out there for struggling web cartoonists with regards to getting print editions made?

tech toon that captures the essence of the article
Reading this article reminded me of a tech toon I drew about the same subject. Here it is. Of course, my inspiration was being stuck at an airline gate waiting to come home. Enjoy!

Favorite quote used by non-techies...
"Who needs to read computer manuals when I've got a son who's a computer geek!". Something I overheard a while back and decided it would make a cute 'toon. Here it is.

Bob Weiner strikes back at telemarketers...
Dave's not the only one pissed at telemarketers. Here's what I propose we do to them. Of course, this is probably the best solution.

Re:If you buy Apple..
all I can say is this is how it's going to be if we keep buying overseas.

it might sound bizarre...
...but keep a written list of activities and items you need to do for that day. By writing your 'To Do's' on a piece of paper (instead of typing it on your computer), you'll reinforce the idea that things have to get done. Paste up that list on your monitor, and as you accomplish a task, cross thru the item (don't erase). By seeing what you have accomplished, you will be further motivated to getting the other items done. Prioritize your work, and don't try to get everything done in one day. If that doesn't help, and you really want to kill some time, read my toon.

Exactly. I wish this could happen to those Nigerian spammers.

Re:Personal Whine
Well, The PC Weenies toon wasn't mentioned, but their website got a complete overhaul earlier this week.

Re:dupe!!!
So has this cartoonist.

Re:Awesome
Some do...but I don't think they take the cartoon as seriously. The Simpsons takes shots at everyone, so it's all good.

Re:What???
No one ever put a gun to your head to make you purchase the 3DVD set. You could always wait for the "ULTIMATE SUPER PLATINUM GIGA SPECIAL FU***ING" edition to come out and then purchase it.
I, myself, plan to buy the trilogy. I think the 4th Indy movie won't live up to the hype.

Re:Awesome
This movie left a really bad taste among Indians -- I bet nearly every Indian kid attending a US school was probably teased about the way Indians were portrayed by Lucas and Speilberg. Not all Indians are poor villagers, and the rich don't eat snakes.
Personally, I liked Temple of Doom, but being of Indian descent, I had to face my fellow seventh graders and constantly tell 'em "we don't eat snakes, monkey brains, etc."
Hell, my parents are vegetarian. After awhile, I just gave up, and started inviting my friends over to eat "monkey brains" for dessert. That shut 'em up good.

Childhood memories intact!
I wouldn't go so far as to say my childhood memories have been ruined by what I've seen on the Internet. Rather, it's been a great source for me to meet other fans of television shows, cartoons, and movies that I've been a fan of. There will always be the fringe element websites that spoofs or otherwise shatters the 'innocence' we had as kids watching these shows -- but why worry about it?
What I don't appreciate, however, is the fact that cartoons I used to view on TV have been severely edited to cut out "objectionable" bits. I guess that's what pisses me off the most. And to make matters worse, is the other crap on TV that's 10 times worse in terms of profanity and violence. As if kids aren't already exposed to this stuff.
Hypocracy lives!

Free comic book day and web comics?
This is a great way to bring in new readers into stores. I applaud it, even though I stopped collecting (on a regular monthly basis) years ago.
On the other hand, the web has plenty of free comics -- it'd be great to somehow find a way to tie in web comics to this event.

decorating your room...
My computer room is actually in the living room (because my wife and I are in a small one-bedroom apartment). I generally don't like to have the room really bright, but periodically we keep the patio door curtains open to let some sunlight in. You can see my setup here.
For ambience, try hooking up a nice lava lamp next to your monitor. It's soothing, and definitely a break for the eyes. That, and be sure to take at least 5 minute breaks so your eyes don't bug out.
Good Luck!

The MacOS is dead...Long Live the MacOS
Well, I can't say that I am going to shed a tear and lament the passing of MacOS 9. It was good for its day, but MacOS X is here to stay.

Re:I used to work in Akihabara....
This was really cool! thanks for sharing your story, KH! Do the Japanese also collect the Apple II as fondly? Or is it primarily the Macintosh?

Futurama is disappointing...
I've never really been as impressed with Futurama as I have the Simpsons. Futurama just doesn't resonate with me, for some reason. Still, after all these years, I manage to tune into the Simpsons every Sunday night. It's the ONLY TV show I watch (I don't have cable).

The first ever SPAM?
Just curious...but when did the first ever email SPAM occur? I typically receive about 20 per day on my main account. My hotmail and yahoo accounts are overrun with SPAM.
Not much we can do about it Iguess, but we can try.

Re:Dead simple to use
I totally agree. I've burned 3 DVD's so far and I must say, the iMovie2 and iDVD2 combo works fantastic!
Great stuff from Apple, as usual!

Re:I am not a bum.
I am in the same boat, as I am looking for a job, but can't seem to find one. This is my first week on unemployment. I still continue to look, but I am getting more serious about my project. I don't want to move from my area, as I have a house and am getting married soon. If anyone needs a hardware engineer, let me know. In the meantime, I draw cartoons to stave off depression.
