    Actually Penny Arcade eXpo is the new big dog in the hemisphere, and deservedly so. I've gone every year and it's unbelievably awesome. This year's is only a week away... and expecting ~55k attendees.

    More importantly, what if the kid doesn't go to school at all? What if the kid is home schooled? Sure it's the minority, but is the parent or home school teacher expected to draft report cards before their kid is allowed to play any games?

    Actually, in Wil Wheaton's PAX keynote, he mentions an arcade he used to go to that would give free (or was it discounted?) tokens for kids who bring in good report cards. Now that sounds like a great idea.

    How many webcomics have sported subplots about sneaking into E3?

    so many that some comics have created their own expo.

    This is a serious question.

    I have read that PAX is not, cannot, be a replacement for E3.

    I can accept this; I just wonder aloud: "What is the purpose of E3?" What essential role did it play?

    While I agree with a lot of what you said, I think that these people would disagree with the bit about "live performances." People are paying fat stacks of cash to play games with a pair of quintessential gamers-by-trade.
