Re:Vaporware
The game is actually (apparently) finished (Slashdot editors didn't include this in the summary). The rejected & "permanently shutdown" (via cease & desist) submission to Activision was the completed game...
Search the Internet a little for The Silver Lining game. The website used to have a demo of the game available for download. A lot of work has gone into it, and it has very elegantly recreated classic worlds from King's Quest. On appearance from what I could tell, it all looked rather beautiful to a long-time King's Quest fan, seeing it all recreated in full 3D for the first time; as for the story however... ? I dunno, as almost nothing has been revealed of it.
p.s., yes the team for this game seems to have had far more ambitious goals than this initial dubbed "first part" which is completed, but apparently (from what I recall of posts on the old forums) it was sufficiently self-contained.
Save TSL petition. (I feel the summary should've also included this, if you feel this action by Activision is heartless/careless/wrong/whatever, by all means sign...)

In case you haven't seen this game, search around the Internet for some screenshots (or see the original website tsl-game.com on the Internet Archive). It was in full 3D and very nicely done, recreating very elegantly many environments from the original King's Quest games (from what I could see in the publicly released demo which you might still be able to find somewhere?).

Re:Idiots.
I have read all of the threads here: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&thread.id=116332&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
and here: http://creative.edited.us/
Creative summarily wiped their VP's Original posting from their forums that started this whole epic saga. Good thing somebody mirrored it all here: http://creative.edited.us/page.php?start=1
In summary, here are a few key points (in no particular order):
(1) Creative may have licensed some software for Windows XP and NOT licensed it for Windows Vista. Thus that is *in part* why they crippled it. (and it helps promote new hardware sales for Vista) It seems this is true for the Dolby portions of the code.
(2) Creative stated they cripple their hardware (depending on what model it is) in their drivers based on the Operating System version and what the item was sold as. They state they have the legal right to do so.
(3) Creative stated that anyone re-enabling features (however it is done) is "stealing" from Creative.
(4) Apparently, the Windows XP drivers ignore the Vista "Protected Path" DRM killswitch flags and work quite well. (Recall that Vista is built on Windows XP technology and WinXP drivers *can be made* to WORK FINE in it. It is probably very likely that this violates some NDA from Microsoft to Creative as it likely bypasses their DRM mechanisms in Vista that were not included in WinXP (at least up to WinXP w/SP2).
(5) This is pissing people off in a major way. There are people planning on never doing business with Creative again: http://boycottcreative.com/BoycottCreative.html and http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/BoycottCreative
(6) Creative is not doing very well (at all) financially (Gee, I wonder why?): http://www.creative.com/corporate/investor/ and http://finance.google.com/finance?q=OTC%3ACREAF
(7) A Driver "Modder" known as Daniel Kawakami (AKA "Daniel_K") found ways to re-enable 'features' for certain product Creative lines under Windows Vista, notably restoring the Full functionality on the various Creative Hardware under Windows Vista.
(8) This modder also made their Alchemy software work on non-creative sound products too, likely pissing off Creative more.
(9) The modder asked for donations for his freely available work, he acknowledges that was dumb, and pretty much everybody dumps on him for it.
(10) Many Creative Forum posts have been deleted (redacted) and many are available here: http://creative.edited.us/deleted.html
Interestingly, I created my /. account many years ago while sitting at my desk at Creative Labs Inc. 1523 Cimarron Plaza, Stillwater, OK 74075. 405-742-6655.
Those of you whom also worked there probably knew me, you certainly know the above address and phone number all too well. You had the job while you were in college, learned skills, and happily left around graduation time.
I am not here to badmouth or flame, just to say that I was completely unsurprised when this came to light. I could not believe the VP's posting and how he is clearly so out of touch with the reality of Creative's die-hard customers, their motives, and their sense of loyalty and fairness. He has probably lost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars with that single post if not more!
IN some people's opinions, Creative has now firmly placed itself on the path to be considered as clost to "The customer is always right." as the likes of Microso -
You can fund his work
Did you know that since the government has pulled the funding, Bussard started collecting funds through New Mexico Community Foundation? There's also an online petition to resume his funding by the government.

Bussard's Polywell fusors?
Interesting, how that relates to Rober Bussard's Polywell fusor, which he claims can be made into a prototype 100 MW plant in 7 years, provided the needed 200M USD funding?
You can also listen to his lecture at Google Tech Talks in 2006 to get an idea of what he's up to.
BTW, you can donate to this fund via Paypal and sign the petition to renew his funding from the government.

One Word - Analrapist
"Arrested Development", From S0303:
Tobias - "I'll have you remember I was a 'professional' two times over. Both an analyst AND a therapist, an analrapist."
Lindsy - "Yeah, and the business cards almost got you arrested."
Tobias - "I did NOT quit my job because of the police inquiry but because I wanted to help raise my daughter."
This is just a glimpse into the writing in this show, which has social commentary on par with South Park: George, seeing a military humvee and a pope mobile decides to escape in the pope mobile as it has "actual armour".
It has EVERYTHING. And it does it all well. The show is just as good if not better than The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad. Like those, it tries to capture the essence of American life in a humorous light. The problem is that unlike those shows, it has a bit of sexual innuendo humour. In fact, a big theme of the show is repressed sexuality, which is a perfect allegory for the American way of life. Violence is primetime viewing and a nipple is a national scandel. Sad. But a reason to cancel a great show?
Please, go to http://www.mininova.org/search/?search=arrested+de velopment
If you already have bittorrent running, a single show is like an hour dl. Any of the third season is a good intro to the show, especially 3, 6, or 7. Or watch it Mondays at 8pm on Fox.

Re:Just a thought....
Other than Joss not having the rights to the show (as mentioned above), I had heard that the episodes were on the order of a $1 mil / each to film and release.
Double-checking, I'm wrong, it's $2 million per episode in production costs for Firefly... That's almost as much as ABC's Lost, and there they have a huge audience and marketing engine behind the show. They only got $38 mil total for the Serenity movie, about $ 3/4 mil short of the public production costs.
In my humble opinion, Joss should be seeking to release an adult-level animated series, similar to WB's Batman, or even an anime-style futuristic romp. The level of detail, varied scenery, and scale of the sets are just too big for production offices these days, and if you can't film it, you can certainly draw it. -
It'll never happen
And here's why.
IBM sold OS/2 off and it became eComStation ("jointly developed" - whatever). I highly doubt big blue has exclusive rights to the code anymore.
Go ahead and sign the petition, we all know how much weight internet petitions carry.
I, for one, would love to see both of these pan out. Unfortunately they probably won't.

Using OSS Politics to get Dean in the DNC?
Let's do an experiment. We all sign this petition to get Howard Dean as head of the DNC, and we'll see if this really works.
Before Dean ran, no one thought the Democrats could possibly win (or even raise more money than the president). When he started campaigning, he was the only one landing blows on Bush at all. Shifting the party right is useless (see the past 3 decades). If we sign this, we might keep losing elections, but we'll be losing them for a party we want to vote for and respect. I'm sick of this GOP lite shit. As far as I'm concerned, if the Democrats don't nominate Dean, they have one chance left to earn my loyalty before I'm through. And I'm only 20 =/
