Re:Hello NWOAmerica wants it both ways. It condemns Saddam Hussein for breaking UN security resolutions (yet vetoes them by the bucketload, which shows a lot contempt for the international community)
America is the 400lb toddler. It will scream and scream until it gets its own selfish way, making life miserable for everyone else. No-one can stop it as it's just too darn big.

Re:Dawn of the Dead
Abandonded Places is another site that does this sort of thing. The author goes through old eastern european buildings primarily and photographs them, mostly in black and white.
They can be eerily beautiful. -
It's not just the Sierras, and it's not just you
Urban archaeology doesn't have the following of some hobbies, like stamp-collecting or professional sports, but I can see its appeal.
All constructions, like all people, have life cycles. They're built/conceived, people move in, they're lived-in, they have make-overs/get remodeled, they have mid-life crises/get remodeled tastelessly to hide the structure's growing problems, the spirit leaves/people move out, and get torn down.
If the area is busy enough, there's no gap between moving out and tearing down. And if the area is really busy, there's no gap between the tearing down and the building up, the quest eternal for the Next Big Thing.
Sometimes places die, and this interests people. Pripyat has the dubious distinction of actually being killed, and of course there's some interest in its slowly decaying municipal corpse. And there are other ways for a place to die suddenly too.
Obligatory links:
- Lost America (desert junk + long exposure + cool lighting = art)
- Dark Passage (Where hospitals go to die, it seems)
- Abandoned Places (Can a man really fall in love with a doorknob?)
- King's Park Psychiatric Center (The staff aren't very responsive there)
- The Wraiths (An urban exploration
...gang?) - Jinx Magazine (and yes, the tie is required)
Come to think of it, there's a place not far from me, pretty much right in the middle of Annapolis, which I need to snap pictures of for posterity's sake. Sure, I'll be using a digital camera, but...

Re:System Recomendation
If you're reading Tom's Hardware once every few months (for a quick laugh), then you're reading it at least as much as you should!
:>On the other hand, if you haven't already done so, you should read Tom'z Hardware Bible!

Be kind with the man. He has a rough past...
Peruse here, on his page.
And I quote:
This is me, in between my parents, who are as fascinated as most are by the little helicopters. They pushed me into modeling when I was 10 years old, whereas none of them had even a clue about how a hobby knife looked like...
This webpage is a cry for help. The man was driven through the fassion world and now looks like he is 60 year-old grumpah and inside that body is a 10 year-old boy! If anything, we must donante more acid^Hsugar cubes! My seizures^Hprayers are with him... -

Bill Gates eludes custard pie man!!.
This story states that Bill gates is on the run once again from the Belgian Custard Pie Hurler 'Noel Godin', the famous practical joker who has gotten the MS boss before.
More on the first Attack can be found here.
Ol' Billy now seems to be overly cautious now each time he is forced to visit Belgium.

Pixel
(a micro helicopter)
is waaaaaaay cooler and a already few years old -
Re:RC cars? You can help develop a Free Software autonomous helicopter. The current hardware is a bit too large to fit on the smaller electric helicopters, but most glow or gas engine rotorcraft will work.

Personal Portal
I've done something similar : I'm also learning Perl, and I threw together my personal portal, containing just links to the headlines I want, the single stock quote I'm interested in, and a funny banner. I can also send stuff in by e-mail, and it gets added to the bottom of the page (like the link about Doom System Administration)
The page might not be up to date when you read this : due to technical reasons, I can't host a site at home, so I added a crontab entry to automatically upload the page every hour. But I'm booted in windows right now, because I wanted to play some games after reading SlashDot. If you're interested in the source, or if someone has suggestions to improve it, mail me
:-)
