Re:The diffciulty in getting carnivores to switch
I must have been holding veganism the wrong way.
Seriously, though, if I wanted to eat meat I would. The main thing I miss about meat is that it is damn hard to find a replacement with the appropriate consistency and texture to serve as a substitute. When people ask me why I eat fake meat, it's about not wanting to give up a dish that has meat as a critical ingredient. Unlike real meat, fake meat is not usually used as an end to itself: I rarely see a fake steak and potato dinner, but I *do* see fake meat crumbles in marinara, etc.
I think people should try this Beyond Meat product. I have eaten it repeatedly over the past year or so. It is the first meat substitute that I have tried that comes close to matching the texture of its analogue. It's literally almost indistinguishable from deli sliced chicken breast, save that this is a little less juicy than the real thing.

Good gawd, Rage Much?
You seriously can't be proposing a speaker phone as a replacement for a bluetooth!??
Why do you think everyone around you needs to hear BOTH sides of your pathetic the conversation about picking up a dozen eggs, and when are you going to clean up your room?
There is nothing wrong with bluetooth, its very handy, you can answer a phone call without taking the phone out of your pocket and exposing it to snatch-and-run artists, or having to do something as douche bag as turning on the speaker phone in public.
And explain how I am going to drag the person on the other end of the phone into the store with me when they are 3 states away, and stuck in their office?

Re:Yeah, let's do that...
Not at all. He is justifying his disinterest in a gadget by providing an example of a possible problem and a relatively common one at that. I made a picture for you.
Ever lived in an apartment? With so many transmitters wifi is horrible. Ever been to a concert and been unable to get Facebook to load? Same thing. try living in a place like Chicago or New York. It's also possible he just has a router that is beyond fixing with tomato or openwrt. I own two that fall into that category.
What if these were Ethernet bulbs instead? Would you cat 5 your light switches, sockets and entire house for this? If there's a pressing need for networked light bulbs I haven't noticed. I think he has a pretty valid reason beyond his router, he was just using it as an example.

Re:ASIC
Why not use it to find oil by reprocessing seismic data, or FEA on potential product designs and make real money instead of falling for this crappy ponzi scheme?
-
Re:Fiat money depends on promises
what you're describing is precisely how the dollar is created: the Fed says that [random] TBTF bank now has 1 trillion to play with, the TBTF gambles/loans it and has to pay the Fed both principal + interest. Look up: Libor conspiracy, TARP, QE1, QE2, QE3, QE4, MF Global, Paypal accounts frozen, etc etc. Before singling bitcoin up as "unfair". Nicely summed up here: http://www.quickmeme.com/Bitcoin-owners-safe/?upcoming Bitcoin is the only honest international banking system we have.

Re:My slashdot posts
I lost count of how many times I should've gone to jail for something I said in 4chan..
Even looking at 4chan in the UK can make you a suspect. Every so often, probably under the pretext that the content of
/b/ falls under the scope of their remit, my UK ISP routes all traffic to-fro *.4chan.org through their IWF (Google them ) filter.
This is transparent to the user, you have to traceroute/tcptraceroute boards.4chan to see if they're doing it that day, even if you use https://boards.4chan, they still know you visit..and, in their books, are most probably a Jimmy Saville tribute act either currently, or in rehearsal (so to speak).Thank fuck for tor, although the majority of exit nodes are blocked from posting, at least I can still enjoy browsing Caturday without fear of IWF snooping.

Seriously??
This is the your big concern?
Three-year-olds shouldn't be using Skype at all, and most certainly not unattended. If you're tired of holding the laptop for her, then don't use Skype. It is okay to say "no."
Help her get an actual social life. She'll benefit far more than by talking to the moving pictures on the laptop. In fact, I'd guess she may not even know the difference between the stimulus provided by the laptop and the television. -

Re:SHOULD "Apps" Cost Something?
>That's it in a nutshell. Nothing feels worse than being out $1, AND knowing that you were the dope that pulled the trigger on the wrong thing.
OMG, who give a ****?! I never agonized over an app purchase in my life. In fact, to me it's software that's as cheap (outside of Linux/OSS) as it's ever been and happens to be in a more usable package. I don't even know where to find the people who would, and I don't think I want them in my life as they probably think software engineers should work for free. It's not a damn bazaar, you can either look at the reviews online or on the reviews on the internet about most somewhat mainstream apps.
I mean, in most cases it's a buck!!! In the 90s, I could return $60+ video games. If I go to the supermarket and buy anything, bread, a candybar, etc, taste it, don't like it, guess what? I can't return it (with any ease) and in most cases it's over a buck. Nor at a restaurant without getting in a huff.
Can I return songs on iTunes? What?! No?! Damn, does this whole story and thread reads like a 1st world problems meme. Hell, I have 7 screens of app, deleted some I don't particularly care for but weren't worth my time bitching about. $0.99 cents? I can find that on the ground on the street.
There are plenty of try before you buy apps too, having the old "lite version". In fact, the whole thing is the old PC industry mentalities, for better or worse, in terms of demos and what not. Nothing new here, Apple's App marketplace isn't going to fail, and it's not flooded with crap, 90% of everything in every media since stone age cave paintings was crap to begin with.
