Irony anyone?
Anyone else see the irony of robbing the RBC Bank - aka the Royal Bank of Canada (Bank) to get healthcare?
-
Re:Analysts are upset, should Google care?
you know what's even funnier http://www.rbc.com/RBC is a Canadian bank asking an American company to act more like other American companies

Re:Where's the proof?
Where's the proof this guy is a Microsoft employee?
How many Microsoft employees have disputed it? Mini has stated a lot of inside information that real employees of Microsoft could easily confirm or deny, and I have never heard a viable claim that Mini isn't real. It's pretty much considered a given that Mini is real, and their comments have been validated by known insiders quite a few times.
would they make similar comments if they worked at some other large corporation?
Most large corporations suck, and that is precisely what Mini has been trying to say all along. Saying that HP is even more sucky says nothing, and pretty much entirely misses the whole point. In Vietnam people work in sweat shops from 6am to 11pm every day for pennies, but I'm not going to use that to validate poor working conditions here.
I've worked at several corporations, and while a couple were pretty good, there were some terrible corporations that are nothing but endless shuffles of executives building empires and covering their asses (and absolutely RAPING the financials of the company for themselves), building a world of executives, and a completely separate world of plebs. Mini's various comments makes it sound like Microsoft is evolving to this, and given Microsoft's storied past that is quite simply sad. -
Re:Google salary average
but I'd never want to leave the place, so I'd never have the need to put it down on a resume
This sort of stuff is frightening.
Google is not the second coming (if you're Christian). It's a search engine company with a very clever business plan. For all the oohing about Google's technology, their greatest impact is because of brilliant, MBA-directed market entrants, putting effort and money in a place where people didn't think money could be made.
Secondly, for all you know Google will be a terrible soul-destroying employer in just a couple of years, with a bunch of depressed, robotic employees doing whatever they can to avoid the ire of useless middle manager tin pot dictators in their endless power struggle to hide their own utter incompetence.
Large, public companies shift and ebb in an erratic multiple-personality fashion, and if you learned anything at all from the .COM crash, it's that companies can quickly morph from a great place to be to a career killer where no self-respecting software professional would want to work. -

I'm affected.
My account has shown no activity since June 1, 2004. No, I take that back. I paid for lunch with my debit card, and this is reflected in my account balance.
I got paid last night.. I think. (-: It doesn't show in my account. Meaning that the money (CERTAINLY debited from my employer) is in limbo, and RBC is probably making a LOAD of cash (in interest) on the "unclaimed" sums (think -- my pay, times 1million+ customers).
But, here's what I'm thinking: since they are unable to report actual account balances in the ATMs, then the ATMs are likely unable to determine a lower bound on the account, meaning that I could withdraw my maximum, PAST the $0 limit, into the red (when everything syncs up again), all without overdraft.
I _SUSPECT_ that RBC has put limits on maximum daily withdrawals for people normally without, until accounts start reporting properly.
This note is currently attached to my online banking interface: "Due to a processing disruption, transactions made on June 2 and June 3, 2004 may not yet be reflected in your account balances. We expect your account balance will be updated by the end of this weekend. If you are experiencing any difficulties, please contact your branch, or account manager or 1800 Royal 1-1 (1800-769-2511). We apologize for this inconvenience. "

Last point: no idea why, but RY has climbed this week. Maybe I'm not so far off on the "free money" theory posted above.

Re:If there is a ruling in the US against SCO...
FYI - The retail and investment banking parts of RBC are independent member companies: About RBC
The teller making $32000 a year is not going to have a clue what up with the boys in Investment Banking. These guys can make up to seven figures doing a job very few people in the population can understand. Bottom line: IB guys will never hear about it.
It would be more influential if you were a big retail investor, like a pension fund, and you said "you guys are facilitating a scam that is dicking around with my $50M in IBM stock". -

Goddamnit! Here's the fixed link: RBC Investor Relations

Re:Do I get a discount?
... recommend another good Canadian bank? : CitizensBank.ca Why not write the Royal Bank and compliment them on their wise investment practice? I'm sure they would love to hear from a customer. E-mail: custrel@rbc.com The Centre will make every effort to ensure that the individuals responsible receive the accolades that are due.

nothing very wild."There are only two investors in this deal: BayStar Capital and the Royal Bank of Canada.
BayStar gets money from M$, so what's the point here? Oh, it's not us, it's the BSA or some other shell.
Well, well, M$ has it's hooks all into that bank. They have been dumb enough to use their software, though they have called in IBM to rescue them with z serries servers. In a few minutes, I might know how heavily those dummies have invested in the M$ ponzi scheme. I wonder if Star Office will faithfully run all of the silly Macros I had to promise to run in order to download this sheet (dasterdly deep link)? Nope and there's no mention of M$ in that sheet either. They sure want you to buy M$ stock, despite a history of overvaluation. For whatever reason Royal Bank of Canada is M$'s bitch.

Re:No wild conspiracy theories needed!
"There are only two investors in this deal: BayStar Capital and the Royal Bank of Canada.
"I think people will try and come to the conclusion that Microsoft is somehow involved in this deal, but I can tell you with great certainty that Microsoft was not involved with this investment,"
Let us assume he is telling the truth (because we know nobody would lie to a reporter just because MS suggests it and gives them money. Where's a link to the Switch campaign?)
So MS controls the Royal Bank of Canada?
Maybe not.
Douglas T. Elix, Senior VP of IBM Global Services, is on the Board of Director of the Royal Bank of Canada. (Actual list is available in a PDF from that page.)
New conspiracy theories!
IBM is funding SCO.
But why? -
Re:How about https?Sorry, that should have been "Digital Certificate". Mozilla is great at encryption, but the entity at the other end may not support Mozilla because they are too lazy to incorporate it's user agent tag into their 'accepted' list. I dumped the above bank because it didn't allow Mozilla, even though it met all their requirements.
