Re:video ipod
Are people doing that?? I mean, creating their own shows and distributing them for iPod users?
Yes. Some talk about Digg. Some of them are robots. And some of them are naked. -
Re:Pertinent quote from "Terms of Use"It's not just cheaters who are complaining about it. The story got very highly rated on Digg, got mentioned on Diggnation and those guys were really complaining about it. Some other podcast was complaining about it too, I don't remember.
It's kind of weird how this grass-roots stuff can turn so ugly sometimes, in somewhat illogical ways.

Re:Archos == Tivo
"The video ipod is classic Apple: as much as possible a one-way street from Content Owners through Apple to Consumers, with the ipod remaining as tethered as possible to a Mac/iTunes for operation. Making it harder than it should be for ipod owners to create and share their own content."
You're absolutely wrong. It's going to be as easy to get video of the people on the new Ipod as it is to get audio of the people (podcasts) onto the current one. As long as Systm starts encoding their video podcasts in 320x240 H.264 which is easily done, then they won't have a problem with future Ipod owners being able to take the videos that Systm is producing today on the go. -
IPTV Shows
I watch and recommend some great IPTV shows:
- This Week in Tech
- Digital Life TV
- Systm
These are all hosted by former TechTV hosts. -
Systm/Revision3 guys did an episode on MythTV
Check out what Revision3 guys did with their box: http://revision3.com/systm/mythtv/ You can download the whole episode off their site.
While you're there, they also have an episode on how to make your own HQ A/V cables: http://revision3.com/systm/avcabling/
Enjoy! -

Here's a step-by-step video to show you how.
Systm has a show on MythTV in a variety of formats including Ogg Vorbis+Theora. The show is licensed to share under a Creative Commons license, as are the other episodes of Systm.

Re:Some video podcasts are cool
"I find that some video podcasts are actually quite good. For example, Diggnation is quite good: http://revision3.com/diggnation
as is Systm"
Might as well admit you are a Kevin Rose fanboi. :)
Kevin's "The Broken" should also count (thebroken.org)
I myself am anxious for the proper return of television's Martin Sargent in a videopodcast version of his former show "Unscrewed." Fitting since he joined the crew of Revision3 and has his blog finally up (sargeworld.com). -
Smart people already here...
I've been noticing all the podcasting cognoscenti in Silicon Valley are simultaneously doing their podcast and shooting video of it. What do they know or suspect that we don't?
- Former TechTV ScreenSavers host Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, John C. "I get no spam" Dvorak and others are doing TWIT and just announced video is next.
- Former ScreenSavers hosts Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose at Diggnation are shooting video while they podcast and Kevin Rose is doing SYSTM
- Robert X. Cringley's NerdTV debuts. Now you may be wondering, "So what?". It's IPTV...that's what. There aren't a lot of great examples out there yet, but most of the smart podcasters -- who are mini-celebrities or have something people would like to see -- are simultaneously podcasting and shooting video (many in high definition just in case). Read an article about a new report here.
- Silicon Valley podcaster John Furrier from Podtech is embarking on video to augment his podcasting.
It's so hard to believe in anything anymore. If it weren't for my lucky astrology mood watch, I wouldn't believe in anything.

MythTV Setup: video walkthrough
the guys at systm recently did a video podcast (search in iTMS) (also available from their site) on setting up a mythBox.
plain and easy to understand, yet not dumbed-down, this video quickly and easily walks you through setting up a myth box, with plenty of other relevant information such as minimum reqs as well as recommended hardware (especially for recording hdtv content), and everything else you could think of.

No doubt the guys at systm know about this...
I was watching an episode of systm where they showed how to put together a mythtv box, and when they got to the part about typing the root password I noticed the keyboard became oddly silent. I figured it had something to do with this, but didn't know it could actually be done.

MythTV was interesting to watch...
I was thinking of making one, but from what I heard it was complex. After downloading and watching the episode, it made more sense. Much better than reading and looking at screen shots.
:)
I hope to see more of these types of shows. It doesn't have to be on computers and technologies either. -
Re:Myth TV?
Kevin Rose and his crew, Systm, (http://revision3.com/systm/) has a great video about setting up a Myth TV 'only' box.

Re:But does anybody use Theora yet?
http://revision3.com/systm/ episodes are available in Theora. Haven't downloaded the Theora versions myself, though.
