More like SlingPlayer.

Re:Wa wa what?
Too bad, I haven't dealt with BT878s under Windows much, but under Linux I've been using them for ~10years. I have two different very generic BT878 cards.
It's out of your price range, but the HDHomrunner is a great option if you don't need analog signals http://www.silicondust.com/products/hdhomerun . There is also the Sling Box, but it's even more expensive http://www.slingmedia.com/go/slingbox-prohd-connections . I have a HDHomrunner. -
Slingbox
If you're will to pay, how about picking up a Slingbox? Since you admit to having friends, ask one to put it in his/her house, and stream live coverage to your 'puter.
-
Slingbox website already does itFrom the moment you get redirected from Slingbox.com to SlingMedia your screen is filled by a standup comic in front of a whiteboard with a specialized message.
Based on a simple cookie, after you have looked at the product of your choice, when you're returned to the main page you are greeted by name. If your name is Gregg.
The 7" stand-up guy (depending on your screen size) is then informed off-camera that their company's identity-recognition software is not yet finely tuned for their teleprompter cues. The whole scenario was brought to my attention by a guy in the office (named Gregg) who was worried about his security settings and has yet to learn the time-honored tech trick of duplicating an event from the machine next to him.

Re:instead....
also http://www.slingmedia.com/go/slingcatcher available soon.
it delivers everything on your PC to your TV. I for one can't wait (hopefully not to be disappointed this time.) -
Re:Won't work on macs
be very interesting when http://slingmedia.com/go/slingcatcher is released.
If it truly works as advertised then only quality, and the need to leave the PC always on remain.
Although all other Sling products claim Vista compatibilty, I doubt this one can deliver Vista and "can project anything that's playing on your computer screen"
Vista is not a issue I will personally worry about in the next couple years. -
Slingcatcher!
The premise is simple: instead of streaming your TV across the 'net to PCs (as with the SlingBox), the SlingCatcher does the opposite by streaming your PC's videos to the TV. The SlingCatcher is expected to retail for under $200 some time in the middle of 2007; it will come with HDMI and component connectors and will feature both WiFi and Ethernet for connectivity.
--Ars Technica
I voted at Wired for Slingcatcher, but I guess I'm the only one.

Re:Alternate Carriers

Re:Dear god Indeed!Would you whiny bitches quit posting "I don't understand!" "What's this about?" "I don't get it?" Do you do the same thing thing with the Nightly News? Do you hear "Volcano erupts in Hawii" and immmediately ask: "Whats a Volcano?" "What's this Ha-waa-eee thing?" "Isn't an eruption something that happens in sex?"
Sure, Sure mod me flame bait. But I'm fucking right here. If these people took any effort at all, or the same effort as making a post(!) they'd know.
Googling Slingplayer, the top fucking link is:
http://us.slingmedia.com/page/slingplayer.html
Which is the fucking product page! Searching Wikipedia for Slingplayer doesn't return it immediately, but gives this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?searc
h =slingplayer a list with the top(!) link being the Slingbox, the device this software interfaces with. It tooke me much longer to write this post than it did for me to do those searches, and that's the truth. It's not like this information is secret and hidden. A simple search on the most common information sources gives it straight out. -
"What's Sling Player?"
The Slingbox family of products enable you to watch and control your TV anywhere you are from virtually any Internet-connected laptop, PDA, or Windows cell phone.
- from Sling Media's site, for people like me who just kinda avoid TV, since both summary and article seem to assume you know what it is. -
Ahead of its time????
I am not so sure. I have quite a number of friends/acquaintances who bought Slingboxes - http://www.slingmedia.com/indexa.php - for the express purpose of watching sports on their mobile devices. Why would this be? Could it be a price/performance thing? I certainly think so.

Slingbox
http://www.slingmedia.com/ I just got a Slingbox last week - allows you to stream a video signal over your lan / internet as well as control the device it is hooked up to ( in my case, a ReplayTV ) - works pretty well, you need about 300kbits for internet streaming.

Slingbox
Even easier would to buy one of these

Try the SlingBox...
Have you checked out the SlingBox from Sling Media: http://www.slingmedia.com/ ?? It's kind of the opposite of what you're looking for in implementation, but it can accomplish similar ends...
These things are great. You basically plug in your AV and network, and it streams media from whichever input you select (it supports mutiple). The cool part is that the software (yes, unfortunately it requires a client, downloadable from their site - Windows only I believe) lets you select different remotes and it has mutiple IR transmitters running to each of your home theater devices. So say you switch to you DVD player input, the remote in the software changes to your DVD player remote (even emulates the brand and shape, layout, etc) and voila, you can play DVDs from your changer. Then switch inputs to your cable box, and watch streaming live cable TV, change channels, etc - even watch movies on OnDemand and the like.
It actually does a great job with the streaming as well, it will sync with the software client and they'll negotiate an optimal encoding and compression rate based on your connection. You can also set it to a hard setting, but this is nice because it will account for busier or slower network times, if say, you happen to be watching at work ;) It also has some sort of registration with a central server, if you are on a DHCP connection it will report it's IP, etc, so you have basically an ID that you enter in the client viewer, and it connects to your box no matter where it is or what IP it currently has. Tin-foil hat crowd need not apply.
I unfortunately don't own one, but a guy I work with has one and he's showed me all of this. I think they run $300. The real caveats are really just the reliance on a Windows client, which isn't a huge deal to me as I would only really use it from machines at places like work, laptop while traveling, friend's houses, etc. I realize that they dont' playback of computer video files to a TV, but it's still a really cool device along similar lines.... -
Re:Missed the Point
Leave me with a dedicated PVR that can sit at home and worry about catching my shows when I can't do it myself, then let me sync the two devices.
$10 for the first person to integrate iTunes with a Slingbox. -
