Re:You overlooked a major issue
Didn't you already try that?
On another note, it's callous attitudes like that that make this world what it is today. You hear about illegal immigrants and all you think is "our jobs" and "our money" and "our economy". Do you really think that a man who is watching his children starve cares about abstract things like "secular adherence to the Rule of Law" or "democratic process"? Do you think he cares about taking one job out of the wealthiest nation on Earth? Do you think he can vote for a Feed My Kids political party? No, he just wants food for his family, and if you can't understand that then I would suggest you are lacking part of what makes humans human.

Re:Soon...
Aww, I thought we already said we're sorry for that. What else can we do?

Dear Fellow Americans,
Although we know you are sorry and even more people than the ones who voted against your current regime are sorry now, now it is the time for you to make the difference.
Please go out and vote, and if you know someone who does not want to vote please convince him/her to vote. It is on your hands the power to finish the war and terrorism. Vote to remove the totalitarian regime from your beautiful country and to start restoring the rights your government has removed from you.
I am not from USA, but I KNOW there is good people there. Please go out and vote, we need you, people from the USA, we need you to stop the injustice. -
Re:The Netherlands
There's a chance that it will improve again, but currently there's a (grassroots/astroturf?) fear campaign against foreigners, mostly focussed on islamic cultured or coloured people, but americans as well (your current president isn't helping your reputation!).
We know, we said we were sorry for that. -

A Young European's View on Things
I'm quite impressed with this Slashdot article, not because of TFA, nor because of its content.
But I am surprised how many of you realize the problems that your society is having (Yes, I am adressing US citizens). We, in Europe, often speak about those issues of freedom being taken away in the name of a so-called War on Terror, and we see the same roots of the problem, being the media providing bread-and-games distraction, partial/idealistic education and other things.
But, I have come to realize, we unfairly generalize the US citizens, as if all of you didn't realize what's going on. But then, I see stuff like Sorry Everybody, and I am reminded that lots of you don't like the system either. And most of the comments on this article (which have been modded up) express an understanding of what is going wrong.
People - you have to do something!. I am not in the position to be lecturing you (since I am but a 19-year-old German student), but I wonder how come that so many of you see the problems, and yet Nothing Ever Happens. I wonder if it is because there's no way for the "extraparliamentary opposition" (read up on the German one) to express itself, or because there simply is no movement which unites people who feel like you do, and like I do, too. What I see is a great potential for protest, but only in places like Slashdot does it become aparent.
There really is no important bottom line to this. It's what I perceive and what I wonder about. -
Sorry!

Re:In the old Soviet Union
The U.S started doing this 20 years ago. We only found out now. So, by the USSR model, it should be collapsing anytime now.
Well... Just over half of you did vote for the wrong guy...

Re:Weird
Why did you guys vote Bush in anyway? Oh, that's right, you're stupid.
At least 49% of us aren't stupid.
