Re:A little Pyrrhic there.
A great idea might be to corrupt save games after some point. Let them get halfway into it then corrupt all save games. Make sure your support team knows you are doing this and corrupt all the files in some very obvious way like changing them text files about the harm piracy does to gaming.
Oh, you mean like EarthBound did? It did all that and so much more: Nag screens, unbearable enemy encounter levels, and after slogging through the whole game it freezes at the final boss and deletes your save too. Epic spite.
Here's a few of the funnier ones. And then there's the supremely ironic one that Game Dev Tycoon added.

Re:DRM makes it unusable
I was about to reply to you with a link to a tool for cracking the iTunes DRM, but a little research reveals that no such tool exists. At least, the existing tools do not work with the most recent version of iTunes. The hymn project has some help topics on their forums explaining how to not use the latest version of iTunes so you can still use hymn. So much for that.

Re:Hmm...
*bzzt*
Wrong, it's coming out for GBA... doesn't really matter since DS people will be able to play it anyways.
This detail has been on his website for a while now.

Re:Nintendo
I've seen copies of Earthbound selling for around $25-$30, but never as high as $50. It's definitely worth the money though. If you can find it, pick up a copy of the original guide book that shipped with the game, it's invaluable the first time you play through for a couple of the areas.
For anyone who's never had the chance to play Earthbound, it's really one of the most clever RPGs to have ever been released. It takes place in a modern setting, like the 1990's. It's sort of a sci-fi spoof, it's humor is largely based on parodies and breaking the Fourth Wall. While it does a good job of making fun of itself, it still manages to be a fairly fun game. It's not the most challenging RPG available, though some areas can be a real pain if you don't have a guide.
You can get more information on Earthbound at Starmen.net.
And if you haven't figgured it out, Earthbound is one of my favorite games of all time :) -
Re:No blood no foul...
How exactly should game companies find out if there is interest in re-realeasing old games? Nintendo only re-released old nes games that sold well, and added some generic space shooters and side scrollers into the mix to make a larger collection of 'nintendo minis'.
The best example of a fan community lobbying to get an old game released was the Starmen.net effort. Starmen.net (used to be earthbound.net) collected a huge number of sigs to get Nintendo to realize that there was a very real interest in seeing another Earthbound/Mother game in the USA. So far, nothing has been done by Nintendo to help out these fans. In fact, Nintendo released a GBA version of both Earthbound games bundled together in Japan only (Mother 1+2). There are no plans to release this in the US.
Also, the SNES was 2 generations of hardware ago and there have been no re-releases of SNES games except for the Mario and Zelda games re-done for GBA. I don't think that I should have to wait until Nintendo decides if they want to realease one of the 1,000+ SNES games for whatever happens to be the current hardware generation to enjoy these great games using my own hardware.
If you want to check it out and learn about a great SNES game that gets either a 1 or a 10 on gamefaqs go to: [Starmen.net] -
Nintendo CensorshipNintendo's been known to remove crosses from a game no matter what the context. I'm surprised they let games use the letter "t". For example, in Earthbound they removed a red cross from a hospital. Actually, Mother 2/Earthbound went through a lot of changes from Japan to North America. Here are some other instances of Nintendo's game changes and censorship. And This page (Google cache) shows Nintendo of America's old video game content guidelines, along with examples of games that were changed to meet each of those guidelines.
I didn't know Sony Playstation had these problems, considering they released Xenogears, which depicted the crucifixion of furry critters.

Re:Ahead of the trend.
Funny and true. Yo-yo's were major weapons in the Earthbound Series.
And if it's in Earthbound, it must be true. -
Re:Earthbound 64
According to this, Mother 3 is planned to be released on the Game Boy Advance. I think that would indicate that it would be a direct sequel to Earthbound, rather than an entirely new Mother game, due to the graphics of GBA.
Mother 3, when it was being developed for N64, was to be a 3D title. You can see screenshots of it here. It was to be a new entry in the Mother series, quite different from Earthbound (Mother 2).
However, due to the fact that GBA can't do true 3D (yet) but rather tends to imitate the graphical style of SNES-era games, I think Mother 3 might be a more direct sequel to Earthbound, as was hinted in Earthbound itself.
...Yeah, kind of off-topic, but I thought I'd supply some information. -
For those too lazy to read...

Looks pretty much unchanged from the original NES version. -
Earthbound 64's Unfortunate Cancellation...
Although it isn't an Adventure game, Earthbound 64 lingered too long in development and was nixed by Nintendo. MANY fans were anger/saddened/enfuriated and still want it to come back.
