Re:FX always trump story.
"Blockbusters" will always be the equivalent of fast food. Made as cheap as possible, trying to be flashy to get as many people in and out the door.
If you want stuff with a story, you're going to have to find stuff that was either limited release or maybe didn't even make it to the states. Look at what has won Sundance or Cannes, usually movies with good stories and not enough $$ for big effects.
Apple trailers usually has trailers for independent films as well.
You may have to resort to "piracy" to find some of it too. On a whim I grabbed and watched The Man from Earth. it was everything Hollywood was not. A story, thought provoking, almost everything was shot in a single house, NO Fx.
The guy that made it even thanked pirates for raising his movie's profile.. I sent the guy $20 over paypal and I know that there wasn't any hollywood accounting keeping it from him either.
Heck, not all Documentaries are super politically slanted or as boring as the stuff you sat through in grade school. 420 The Movie and Bigger Stronger Faster, Food, Inc, and The Corporation were all entertaining AND thought provoking.

Re:Bad for what tourism?
In Utah is Moab. Near Moab is Slickrock. If you're a mountain biker, that's Mecca. A hajj is required of all mountain bikers: if you don't go, they take away your bike and make you ride a balloon-tire cruiser.
More seriously, Utah's a beautiful state in a parched way. (Well, obviously, multiple parched ways.) It gets a lot of money from tourism.
You may have heard of the Sundance film festival. That's in Utah.
You may have heard of the Bonneville Salt Flats where people race and set world land speed records. Utah.
You may have heard of the Great Salt Lake, the largest salt lake in this half of the world.
Or Bryce Canyon National Park or Zion National Park or the weirdness that is Natural Bridges National Monument. Or Lake Powell. Or even people going to see that weird Mormon Tabernacle and its choir, or hang out near the Hill Air Force Base and take pictures of the strange undocumented experimental military aircraft flying out of it. And that's not to mention the best skiing in the US.Utah's tourism industry is huge.

Sundance?Not this year...
http://festival.sundance.org/filmguide/Default.as
p xAll films and filmmakers aspire to go to Sundance, only the slimmest minority actually make it there. And since this film isn't on the list, one can only assume that this film did not make it in.
There are other festivals in Park City that are concurrent to Sundance, Slamdance being the most famous, and this film might be playing at one of those.
