Looking through the list I wonder how many of these patents have been contested and/or how many of these patent applications should be rejected. For instance, under the "Web Browser Federated Sign-On Protocol" Microsoft lists patent applications 2005-0223217-A1 and 2006-0112422-A1. There exists prior art for 2005-0223217-A1 claim 14 and further in A-Select and I think for the rest of the claims in Shibboleth. I would have to study 2006-0112422-A1 more in detail, but it looks like about half of the claims there also have prior art in those systems.

Voting is a very important issue. It's the base of our democratic system. Surely the way we vote is very important. However the rules that are employed are very rigid. We could have very good systems for voting by internet if these rules weren't all in place. For example, in the Netherlands every choice should be directly visible, which leads to big bulky voting machines and makes it practically impossible to get it all on a webpage.

There are in fact ways the prime goals of a good voting system could be met, like anonimity, verification of your vote etc with electronic help. For example a card with chip which has your personal key. It could still fulfill all primary needs but can't be used because of the rules. So the rules are really the things we should look at. Stepping back to pen and paper might not be such a deal, but I bet if you ask Joe Average on the street that he doesn't mind at all how he votes, if he votes at all. The democratic base might be very important, but hardly anyone uses their rights with voting. So we should just be sure that everything goes honestly and make it easy for the people to vote.

Of course, making the elections easier won't necessarily mean a better election. However if more people, the result would be more democratic. And you wonder if current politicians want that...

if there is a legal way to get it, i'd sure like to know about it.

I live in one of the Dutch studentflats where some servers were confiscated. Since that afternoon our networktraffic dropped dramatically, possibly also because a lot of students shut down there own little ftp-server afraid of being caught.

Based on IEEE 802.1x, EAP-TTLS and RADIUS it allows for seemless roaming between the participants.
This WiFi roaming has recently been extended and now institutions in Portugal and Croatia are joining as wel.

Surfnet, the education backbone here in the Netherlands (linking pretty much all universities and gov't research facilities), has been very busy making sure all their routers can speak IPv6. They are basically ready to do IPv6. I have no idea when they're actually rolling it out. I just see all their change tickets.

What I mean to say is, this doesn't require much downtime (only a reboot of the router), so this shouldn't be a big issue in switching to IPv6.

You can check out the live eval. I haven't tested it and it's probably not nearly as useful as knoppix, but I should give an impression of SuSE.

The biggest problem is that none of the primary routers support it.

*cough* two core routers dual-stacked where I work, one scheduled for next wednesday, the rest to follow in the weeks following. Abilene supports IPv6 natively. CA*net supports IPv6 natively. SURFnet supports IPv6 natively. IPv6 traffic exchanged at LINX and AMSIX. NTT Europe launched commercial IPv6 service in Europe on 19th February.

Btw. Any chance you could ask your ISP for IPv6 connectivity? From your post it sounds like they could do with some customer demand. :)
