Credibility of TFOT site?...
I followed the link to the TFOT site given by the OP. On that page was a link to "more up to date information" on the status of the lander. Check out: http://www.tfot.info/news/1189/the-phoenix-has-landed.html Curiously, 2/3 down the page is an image of the lander which is titled: "NASA's Phoenix spacecraft on Mars - actual image (Credit: NASA)"
I found this particularly interesting since I have a second window open, and I'm watching the -relativistically speaking - "live" coverage from JPL on NASATV. In this coverage, they have JUST begun to get images of the solar panels a few minutes ago... And from what I can tell, none of them look like the "third person" photo on the TFOT site. Tried to post a comment to this effect on TFOT, but couldn't. ...I'm not sure how they can call that an actual image...
*sigh* this all must have been faked just like the lunar landings.... -

Cool!
I'm sure by now someone has said "Cool!"
So this thing works similar to an ion drive. A stream of ions from one wire to another drags the surrounding air with it, generating wind. The last entry here has a good graphic. -

RFID powder... welcome big brotherWhen RFID chips are widely used for stock control, it will be difficult to avoid buying things that contain them, and they can't be turned off. Robust identification could be provided by the "cloud" of RFID chips carried by each person. Did you know about RFID "powder"? (it was discussed on
/. earlier this year) In short, RFID so small it will stick to people's hair if sprayed on a crowd. In forensics, you can thus know who was in the crowd with simple RFID scanners. There's much more applications, of course. (shameless plug; selected RFID stories here) -

Also - do we really want to do fission - its so 20th century and dangerous - news today - The UK has built up a stockpile of 100 tonnes of plutonium - enough to make 17,000 nuclear bombs http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7006056.stm -

No assurance from the photo presentation
If you look carefully at the photo of the HDD drive on top of a laptop in the article , you can read the popup on the screen saying '... to fix this problem'.

Re:What key switching tech does it use?
Where the heck is this $400 number coming from? I looked all over, and the only price I found was half that. They have a press clippings page, and the most recent link there (October 23, 2006) clearly states an expected price around $200.
