Tell me again, Mr. K, why you need to do this?
The bulk of the Department's revenues originate from motor fuel taxes, licenses, and fees that are constitutionally dedicated and bond revenue that is supported by increases in licenses and fees. The State Highway Fund is shared among ODOT, counties, and cities. Out of $4.5 billion to be collected for 2007-09, $680 million is projected to accrue to other state agencies and local governments, leaving $3.8 billion available for expenditure on transportation programs. The most recent revenue forecast projects gross highway fund collections to increase by about 6.3% from the 2005-07 estimates. Total state motor fuel tax receipts are forecast to increase 3.7%, as the slow, but steady, recovery in Oregons economy is expected to continue.

"You will not need a TV Licence to view video clips on the internet, as long as what you are viewing is not being shown on TV at the same time as you are viewing it."
Thankfully buffering ensures that you are not viewing at at the same time as it is being shown
... strictly speaking.I'm guessing that one may not wash - perhaps the uncertainty of the BBC as to whether using "watch live" requires a license or not. For example, on your link it merely states that to watch as a show is broadcast requires a license - if they knew watching that stream required a license, surely they'd just say that? They can't be lacking that much in people able to write plain English??
Interestingly that site doesn't tell you anywhere under which law you're required to have a license, nor does it mention the case law that broadens "tv equipment" to encompass computers
.. I'm guessing they're interpreting the law to their own ends.Under SS3.11 of The Communications (Television Licensing) Regulations 2004 (as amended, http://www.statutelaw.gov.uk/content.aspx?ActiveTextDocId=1528097) there is a specific exclusion for computer apparatus which is not specially adapted to be used "in connection with the reception by means of wireless telegraphy of television programme services" - my computer has no wireless parts and no special adaptations.

I have heard the same thing. If you still get your newspapers out of a newsbox, that money just pays for the delivery to the box. The distributors get the papers for free, or close to it. I guess they also have bonding and or liability insurance requirements. Also somebody has to pay for the boxes, but, in my experience the boxes are often branded.
I would guess that the Corporate advertisers provide the greatest share of the newspapers income and therefore have the greatest influence over the newspapers content. When I tried to do a informal survey in my neighborhood on this subject, I could never complete the long explanation before they would shout out something like "them media's is crooks," or "they hate decent people."
Finally, one old retired guy, on a bus stop, after overhearing my spiel for a second time got it! He provided me with a great quote." "Now I get it. Your not tellin us them crooks is crooks, because everybody already knows that. Your tellin us how them crooks manage to work together, without slitting each others throats."
I don't think everyone would be bothered by the disappearance of corporate newsprint.

Re:Another interesting point - geography of the ar
I think you're mistaken. I also live in this area, and work nearby.
While I'm sure there may be a few Amish/Mennonites, they certainly aren't there in any large number. The area around is airport has some farming, but has just as many housing developments and undeveloped land (with trees). It is also isn't flat. Map here http://tinyurl.com/8otcxn
Let's not try to play armchair quarterback too much. He obviously had an incentive to not crash. He lived in Bath, so he flew into the airport a lot and was probably familiar with the area. If safely landing in a field was available to him, I'm sure he would have taken advantage of the opportunity instead of crashing into a residential neighborhood like he did (he hit a vacant house). It was night, so he probably would have had a hard time spotting a field.

Materials on Watergate
If you don't know much about Watergate, I suggest hitting up Watergate on Wikipedia, then considering acquiring a copy of Woodward and Bernstein's All the President's Men. Those two reporters were the ones two interacted with Deep Throat, named for a 70s porn.
The 1976 Redford/Hoffman movie version of the book All the President's Men is the definitive story in video format.
Emery's Watergate is another arguably excellent book on the matter.
Avoid the new "Frost/Nixon" film--it's history ambiguous and largely inaccurate; it's a Hollywood version of the story with excellent acting. Instead, watch the original interviews.

Re:So?
Science isn't making shit up...
Don't think so? GW "data" is laced with examples of manipulation. The most recent is the July 2008 CO2 readings from Mauna Loa. It seems that the folks "maintaining" the Mauna Loa CO2 data has been caught "Hansenizing" it all the way back to 1974 to ELIMINATE a CO2 reversal. The GW folks are all about using "adjusted" data to support their agenda, Thankfully, the military doesn't buy into their schemes and use REAL temperature data in their guidance equations, otherwise their accuracy might falter from being able to hit a 1 sq meter target to missing by a mile. Here is the data showing the CO2 manipulation, from the posting by Dee Norris.
Dee Norris (19:08:01) :
it would seem, contrary to earlier claims that NOAA only adjusted the recent year, that the dataset back to mid-1974 has been adjusted. I will resist using the term Hansenized until I hear back from Dr Tans.
Here is a comparison of the new and old mean values:
Mauna Loa CO2 Adjustments on Aug 4th 2008
# decimal new old
Year Month date mean mean Change
1958 3 1958.208 315.71 315.71 0
1958 4 1958.292 317.45 317.45 0 .... snipped for brevity ... .... check URL for total listing ...
2008 6 2008.458 387.87 387.99 0.12
2008 7 2008.542 385.6 384.93 -0.67Dee Norris (20:05:35) :
I did a quick plot of the differences between the old and new means.
Other than July 2008, the change seems to radiate out from 1994, each oscillation growing larger as time progresses in either direction.
I look forward to NOAA explaining the justification for this sort of adjustment.
This is just one of many examples of data cooking by GW believers. With their GW as a hammer they see everything else as a nail. Earth warming? Proof of GW! Earth cooling? Proof of GW! Drought? Proof of GW. Unusual rain and floods? Proof of GW.
To the GW Faithful EVERY change "proves" GW. This attitude moves them from the area of science to that of Faith. When you can't falsify your hypothesis then your hypothesis is a Faith.

Re:Question: are hard drive internals poisonous?
There are two types of platters in hard disks, one is a metal disk coated with thin glass/plastic the other is glass. Bending the first causes the surface to craze you can then snap them after a few bends, these can then be melted along with the casing. Bending the glass ones causes them to shatter all over your workshop with small sharp fragments that you could be still finding months later. For my latest batch of disks to melt I shook them up in a large plastic tub with some rocks and that separated the two types. --- Please be aware, I don't melt drives to wipe the data from them that's just a side effect of the process. The cases of the drives seem to melt and cast very well and it sure beats trying to melt drinks cans. http://tinyurl.com/FlowerpotFurnace/ ---

You've also made a major logical slip. They are scientists, not MBAs. Keeping in mind an MBA isn't a guaranteed ticket to anything, and there's only so many banks around, you're also forgetting that scientists are scientists for a reason; they either aren't attracted to the business world, and/or can't function in it. Also, that government that is bailing out the banks is the same one handing out party favors to scientists who conveniently parrot the pro-government power party line.

However, some Christians claim they don't need many aspects of health care. They apparently believe you should trust in some personification of supernatural power. Do you?If you don't, I would suggest that when you ignore the real world it's possible to make all kinds of statements of fact that are logical, but materially and humanely meaningless. Neural Networks and Kernel Methods
When I studied Neural Networks in my undergrad program, we read Neural Network Design by Hagan, Bemuth, and Deale (ISBN 0971732108). At that time, we had several Physics students in the class as well, with minimal CS backgrounds. The Physics students did a great job of keeping up to speed with the concepts, since they had all of the mathematical background behind the theory.
If you want to go much further in some of the more recent theory behind pattern recognition, I could recommend Kernel Methods for Pattern Analysis by Shawe-Taylor and Christianini (ISBN 0521813972). This book is very challenging, but greatly describes the theory.
