TokyoFlash
I haven't seen it posted yet, so wanted to throw in my bit. TokyoFlash has some of the most beautiful watches I've ever seen.
http://www.tokyoflash.com/en/watches/1/
All sorts of styles, displays, and interpretations. Some are more pricey than others, but I'd say every last one is a piece of art more than a plain watch.
They are all limited edition, so if you wait a few months they will have in new models, but at the same time some current models will be discontinued. So if you find something you really like, don't put it off.

Re:perfect for a real wrist-watch..
I can see TokyoFlash doing something like that. you should totally pitch them the concept.

Re:I guess I'm odd then
Alternatively, he can wear some shiny geek watches: http://www.tokyoflash.com/en/.
I think my next watch purchase will be either their Barcode watch or the Twelve 5-9 L Version. I almost bought the latter when I placed my last order, but I decided I needed to save a bit of money. -
Me
It seems to me that this question arises fairly often here on Slashdot. Some poor fool thinks that just because every known device can display the time in one way or another, they don't have any reason to wear a timepiece.
Sure, my phone and my iPod both display the time, but they're nowhere near as convenient as just glancing down at your wrist and knowing immediately what the time is.
Watches can also look good. In fact, I've taken to only buying interesting designs that stand out, and get people asking about them, such as this little baby by EleeNo.
My phone and my iPod don't look anywhere near as good as that watch. ...not to mention that after having worn a watch every day for as long as I can remember, when I'm not wearing one, I actually feel naked! -
Tokyo Flash
I am very surprised no one has mentioned Tokyo Flash as of yet. They have the wildest collection of strange display watches I've ever seen, and their prices are not excessive (though you're still buying a watch directly from Japan...).
I bought one hillarious digital watch from them a couple of years ago. It's still on their page, and it's pretty much how they describe, except that it comes with an amazingly funny Engrish manual.

Re:Japanese Domestic Market Watches
There are some great looking Japanese "novelty watches" at Tokyoflash (Disclaimer: never used them, just admired them from afar).
I've long wanted an Eleeno G -- it's one of those "coded" watches but it's easier than most to read -- just count the squares. It's not rocket science. And, you know, I think they look really nice. Can't ask for much more than that.

Tokyo Flash has some nice watches, some of which definitely qualify as interesting: http://www.tokyoflash.com/

Re:TokyoFlash
I have an EleeNo Art 8, and I have to say, it's an utterly beautiful analogue watch - sure, it takes slightly longer than usual to work out what the time is, but it looks so damned good!

Travel to Hong Kong.
If you're serious, travel to Hong Kong, Bangkok, or any other major Asian city with a lax view of copyrights.
You'll be able to start a large collection of many different styles for not very much money. And on top of that you will have traveled around and have a story for all of your watches. The story really makes the watch.
Other than that, try a
Casio Waveceptor (note, doesn't work in New England)
Fossil PDA Watch
USB Watch
YES watch
MP3 watch
Sleep Tracker Watch (too bad it is so ugly)
Tokyo Flash
Nike Watches (always something interesting)
Also, consider pocketwatches. They're rare enough that you get immediate oddball points for using one, but they're common enough that you can find interesting ones. -

TokyoFlash
I've bought several interesting / alternative watches from TokyoFlash My favorites have been the Equalizer, Pimp, and Twelve 5-9 B. When I was in China and Thailand, I bought some by brands called ODM and Thix, a few of which are carried / were carried by TokyoFlash as well. You'll see many of the same models on ebay too, although often around the same price.
I did have to send back my Equalizer due to it being extremely dim, even with a new battery, and TokyoFlash turned it around pretty quick and paid me back for my shipping to them. As far as readability of those funky designs, I find the Twelve 5-9 to be the quickest / easiest, with the Equalizer a bit behind the Pimp. -
this one is nice

Great news!
Thanks to Nakamura I have way coolest watch of all my friends. Pimpin ain't easy
Thanks for all the ass Nakamura. -
I have 72 blue LEDs on my watch...
One of the best waste of money I have found in a long time. Its even a feature of the watch that blue LEDs are the second most expensive LEDs you can get.
Pimpin aint easy watch by PIMP
A note that came with the watch said the battery only lasts 6-9 months if I need to know the time 15 times a day but who cares when you have such a rockin wrist peice. -
Update: back in stock!
Some fool, apparently myself, wrote: "Previously sold at Tokyoflash. Sorry, we can't get any more."
Great news, boyz n girlz... it's available again! Follwowing the same link now brings up an active order page, and sure enough, it's listed as usual on the watches page.
The only glitch seems to be that the color selection has changed... white isn't available, only turquoise blue. Still, it's too cool to pass up... hope they still have it when I have the cash. I should be able to convince my wife that $38 for a one-of-a-kind watch is a good buy compared to her own online addictions... -

DecisionMaker sold out!
Darn! My Swatch has seen better days, so I was really excited about the "OVO DecisionMaker Watch":
I relish the impracticality of a watch that makes you sit through a 10-second animation before showing you the time, and which periodically goes into "naughty mode" where it distorts the time so that you can't read it until you give it a "corrective shake" that's hard enough to trip the built-in motion-sensor.
Well, the link from Cory "who the heck is this guy?" Doctorow's page was 404, so I googled around a bit and found out the bad news: they're sold out and can't get anymore. "Previously sold at Tokyoflash. Sorry, we can't get any more." Crap!
Time to add another saved search on eBay...
