Re:I, for one,
While trying to locate the origin of the pie in the window story, I came across this amusing anecdote.
About the oldest source I could find was A 1933 cartoon. Here is some evidence of the thief holding the pie. -

Re:Depends on the orbitCertainly the Slashdot audience would believe that the whole Disney pantheon belongs "down there."
Absolutely not. It's a shame how diluted their work has become, but if you look back to the old cartoons, they really produced masterpieces. The Clock Cleaners, from 1937, is a great example. Funny gags, good music, superb artwork.

Re:some info
2. There is a lot of sexual innuendo, sex, and gay sex in eva. I don't know how they are handling such things now, but in the old days, they would edit *everything out* even if deleting the relevant scenes made the show make no sense. Somebody who is willing to stay up late and watch adult swim should tell us what they have done recently with the homosexual characters in samarai champloo. Particularly, the guy from holland in episode 6.
Episode 6 had a "shit" and an "asshole" dubbed out. There were no edits to the Dutchman. Toon Zone has an edit list for the episodes that have aired, it's entirely Mugen's foul mouth and painted out nipples, plus formatting things like moving around commercial breaks and cutting the credits for time.
And here's the list for Paranoia Agent, a series at least as fucked up as Eva is (moreso, I think, because PA has a better grounding in reality, at least at first glance). -

Fleeting. Ha. Ho.
Almost as humorous as this.

It's golden
It's called the "Golden Rectangle." Ask anyone who has seen the Disney educational feature Donald [Duck] in Mathematic Land and they can tell you, it is indeed a very special shape with lots of interesting properties.

Harry Goz, Sealab 2021 voice actor, dead at 71
I just heard some sad news on talk radio - the voice of Captain Murphy, Harry Goz, (link - link) was found dead last week. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him, even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

The Laughing FishThis is starting to remind me of an old Batman comic/Animated Series Episode, "The Laughing Fish."
JOKER: As I was saying, since every fish in Gotham now bears my famous, and frankly, fabulous face, I should be getting a profit from every fish product sold. Let's say a nickel per fish sandwich? Fifty cents for sardines! Millions of dollars a day to finance my happy hedonistic lifestyle! So which of your tedious copyright forms do I fill out first? You may speak now.
FRANCIS: No one can copyright fish. They're natural resource!
JOKER: But they share my unique face! Colonel What's-His-Name has chickens, and they don't even have mustaches!

Re:XBox games in 480p+
Not all that many games out there have 16x9 modes -- for a fairly comprehensive rundown, hop over to this list at the Home Theater Forum. A little over half of my XBox games have 16x9 modes (I use a 4x3 Sony VVega KV-36FS12, which can do the 16x9 squeeze). I took some comparison shots of some of those games in 4x3/16x9 modes, if anyone's bored. The only 1080i game on the market, as far as I know, is "Dragon's Lair 3D". "Tony Hawk Pro-Skater 4", "NBA2K3", "Dragon's Lair 3D", and "Street Hoops" all have 720p modes.

Re:Premium or what?
The Extreme Violence isn't a problem on TV. As long as nobody utters the phrase "Sweet Jesus" then they should be able to air it...

Re:Where did CB go!(Gawd, I'm gonna get so modded down for this, but here goes.)
Cartoon Network (not CowboyNeal, geez people) rearranged the schedule for Adult Swim. There's now Adult Swim on Sunday nights with Williams Street (read: Turner/WB/H-B 'toons) productions; and then there is "Action" Adult Swim on SATURDAY NIGHTS at *11PM*.
"Action" Adult Swim (it's not really called Action, but it's caught on) is all-anime. It kicks off at 11PM with "Yu Yu Hakusho" (just call it Ghostfiles, its English name), then at 11:30PM is "Cowboy Bebop", after which is "Candidate For Goddess" at 12AM and "Gundam 0083" at 12:30AM.

What the...
First of all, this block IS Adult Swim. 0083,
PC, Yu Yu, and Bebop are rated TV-PG and TV-14.
Bebop's censorship was the best of its kind.
With RFB pt. 1 as an outlier, most episodes
ran ENTIRELY UNEDITTED, and SCENES WERE NOT
CUT OUT(a couple were shortened by a couple
of frames). Bebop's voice acting is not
terrible but terrific. A lot of people
disagree on Spike and Faye's voice, but it's
entirely a PREFERENCE. Spike's English voice
does a fine job. Don't say it "sucks" just
because you prefer the Japanese version.
For more information on the shows, check this page out. Hope you all enjoy the new block. - Matt, AS:TF Webmaster
