I wouldn't bother reading Transmetropolitan then

Gotta love the spite.

If they make me get a license, then somebody will insure me. Hmm, that could be useful. In the comicbook Transmetropolitan the main character Spider was insured and used it as club to work mischief. By having a license and insurance your actions have legitimacy. Or at least the threat of lawyers. A license would give the reporter the same professional secrecy standing of a Doctor or Priest. (Scratch Priest, wink wink)

There will have to be some built-in limits on what can be made in a "Desktop Fabricator", however, otherwise an intelligent enough machine could end up like the maker in Warren Ellis' excellent "Transmetropolitan" series; constantly manufacturing and taking its own drugs.

I'll weigh in with Transmetropolitan which in my opinion is nearly as good as Preacher (ymmv of course).

I always wanted one of these, there's so many fleetingly beautiful moments in life.

Of course CNN would roll over and say whatever the company involved wants them to. The American press has absolutely no guts to sniff out a story and perform investigative journalism. They're too afraid of being sued or offending anyone.

In addition, other favorites of mine that you can still find in the store if you look:
-100 Bullets(various)
-Athena(Dean Hsieh)
-Heavy Liquid(Paul Pope, who's actually worked in the manga industry)
-Hitman(various)

Frank Miller's "Sin City" series are also good, although they're more of an exploration into beautifully rendered noir, than a continuing story.

The world gets more and more like transmet every day.

If they can develop products fast enough, maybe they could have "Nike Trinity's" as a product tie-in by the time the sequel is out. It'd let you run around on walls just like in the movie(add your own slow motion though, and good luck getting off).

Or better yet, Spider Jerusalem's "Air Jesus" shoes from DC/Vertigo Comics' Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson...
