verizoneatspoop.com
The story reminded me of http://verizoneatspoop.com/. Anyone know what happened to this archive of grievances by pissed of verizon victims? It was around for years and I'm pretty sure I looked at it as late as 6-8 months ago. Now it denies access.

Re:I have to say...Not to mention that companies often try to register all possible sites that critics would want.
Verizon tried this, but missed VerizonEatsPoop.com.

Re:So what
Don't you mean that the good of the State (We the People) must outweigh the rights of the Individual?
No, it's not that utilitarian of an analysis. The gov't must have a "compelling interest" to justify the search; e.g., blood tests of railroad employees without a warrant who are involved in train accidents to detect traces of alcohol as was the case in Skinner v. Railway Labor Executives' Ass'n (489 U.S. 602) In that instance, the compelling interest of the gov't in detecting and preventing alcholism of employees in such a position outweighs any such employees privacy interest.
Hope that helps,
Alex

Re:So what
No Constitutional issues are involved? That's absurd. I happen to be preparing a 4th Amendment legal brief for the Army JAG Corps on the this almost this subject exactly.
Requiring a DNA sample is a "search" for purposes of the U.S. Const. 4th Amendment. Because it is a suspicionless search, the interest of the gov't must outweigh the privacy interest of the individual. One factor of the privacy interest of the individual is that the individual have a legitimate expectation of privacy that society would recognize as such.
Because this man was a soldier, the extraction of DNA and placement of same into the DoD Repository was not unconstitutional; however, there are serious 4th Amendment issues implicated when the DNA in the repository is obtained and used against an individual in a criminal proceeding after an individual's tour of duty is complete.
I would say that this individual has a very case for a 4th Amendment violation. However, there is one caveat: if this man had finished his tour of active duty, but was still in the reserves, the DoD did have a compelling interest in preserving his DNA samples (remains identification), which then could be subpoened by a court order from a court of competent jurisdiction.
Very interesting constitutional issues indeed!
All the best,

Ho Hum...
Vivato's bases reach groups of users on existing laptops and other computers, with an operating range up to 7 kilometers outdoors, the company claims. Software controlling the antennas detects Wi-Fi clients in the area and adjusts the signal across the array many times per second.
Which is great, except when they overbook in order to maximize revenue, much like cell phone companies. Then we have spotty, intermittent coverage serving only a percentage of paying customers, as the system struggles to keep up.
Yay technology! -
not surprising from a company that...Eats poop!
They really do, I've seen them.
AT&T broadband also digests fecal matter in large quantities, but I guess they haven't come out and said it on a webpage like verizon has yet.

Only dsl option is IDSL from Covad
Many parts of the areas up here in Washington are left dangling by Verizon. So the only high speed dsl type service is IDSL.
I would love more bandwidth at a cheaper price, but Verizon would rather sell DSL in high income markets. I even saw an article about a lawsuit, ATT broadband being sued for not putting cable in low income urban areas. I hope the lawsuits spreads to Telcos and dsl. I found out when the equipment arrives, Redmond is winning out over other areas. Pisses me off, Verizon says they will have the equipment in for the last 2 years for DSL. My phone line qualifies, but they are at capacity at my central office. And no cable modems in my area due to a mom and pop cable company moved in and made everyone agree to long term contracts. (screwed again...)
But, back to the IDSL, its only 144/144K, but its connect 24/7 (not like isdn), Covad even has an Sys-Admin package that lets you have 2 IPs, and allows you to run servers. Great thing about it, its the lowest ping ive seen around, 30ms to game servers in Seattle via SpeakEasy. Covad and Speakeasy has been pretty good, other than the price for idsl. (-; -

Re:Speech != language
The advantages would be twofold and do not require a generative grammar or explicable set of rules: 1) simple and efficient communication where visual aids are ineffective, namely the dark 2) the cognitive development of other areas of brain, again, namely the evolution of the areas known of Broca's and Werneke's (sp).

Re:2 words
Bruce Sterling had an interesting quote about almost this very thing in a book called 'Digital Law' which was compiled by someone else.

Re:Those things are spam + social engineering
ha ha, nice one. So long as customers continue to refuse to read their privacy policies and accept their agreements, this will happen; not until there is a concerted effort on the part of consumers to defeat this by way of a boycott on certain products or policies of companies which disregard a customer's privacy entirely will it begin to trickle down.

Re:He's no lawyer...
I agree -- the law is accessible to any who are willing to read it -- it's really not that complicated.
I think this kid sounds like an overpriviledged clown who got into HLS partly on scholarship but mostly on the heritage of grandaddy et alia. He even calls his granfather "Grandfather . . ."

Re:1.5Mbps for $45.95/month
yeah plus you'd be dealing with Verizon and we all know that they happen to eat poop.

Re:It's not "for use anywhere"
But the
.us TLD isn't "for use anywhere"
I think he means any new TLD for any specific use (such as US only in this case).
The problem is that people have registered their own NAME as a domain, and lost it because their name conflicts with a trade mark.
Say my name is John Q. Exxon and I register exxon.XYZ. It doesn't matter that Exxon corp has nothing to do with .XYZ. Exxon is trademarked, and my use of it "could cause confusion" or "dilute the trademark". I still lose my domain.
That's why new TLD's aren't solving the problem. Every company wants exclusive rights to their trademarks under every TLD, and every variation on their trademarks, and everything that contains their trademarks (such as VerizonEatsPoop.com), and anything else they can get away with.

Of course,
you're ignoring the real problem. It's that Verizon eats poop. (also from the folks that brought you fordreallysucks.com)

Speaking of those damned cellphone games...
March 5, 2001 - Verizon Wireless today announced that Boxerjam, a developer of games for wireless devices, has been selected to provide Mobile WebTM customers with two new games to play on the wireless Internet: Knockout and Dr. Popko.
So instead of augmenting their maintenance force or their vanishing DSL support centers, they encourage the desk jockeys to play games on their cellphones. What is this new economy coming to?
(This was spotted on verizoneatspoop.com, which prominently displays the QRPFF perl script.)

Ugh, morons.
Once again, the morons over at butt-WIPO never cease to amaze me. At least they won't confuse my favorite Verizon sucks site with Verizon themselves.

All phone companies are, for the most part horrible, especially Verizon. They've only been in business since May and already 87,000 of their workers struck and they've acquired a good deal of infamy resulting from their apathy and incompetence. Take a look at http://www.VerizonEatsPoop.com and voice your own grievances against Verizon for all to see.
Best, Alexander
