Re:Not first.
Hmm... portable in the broadest sense of the term, perhaps. Can't imagine getting in a quick game of toleroboxer while on the bus.
Portable != handheld

Old technology!
Nintendo has actually already come up with this technology. Do you remember Virtual Boy http://www.virtual-boy.org/ and the Power Glove? http://www.rolandit.com/games/Peripherals/viewper

Re:Two Words.... Light Saber" HELL. YES. I just watched the video off of IGN's website, in one part, there was a guy using it as a sword. "
I agree, i read the article and really think this would work great and cant wait to try it.
Did the other people posting even read the article? Because I admit, at first glace it looks stupid, but after reading the demos (flying a plane, basketball, race car, Metroid Prime FPS) it sounds like it'd be really cool.
The FPS sounded especially cool, aim by moving the entire controller! Now all I need are VR googles so i'm not stuck staring at a screen across the room while my arm is pointed somewhere else.
could this be it? could this be the VR system we've all been waiting for?? The controller's perfect for it.... tell u what, if it is then it'll SLAUGHTER the xbox and ps3. I dont care if it has N64 graphics a VR system would be AMAZING.
just dont bring back the Virtual Boy. Anymore 2D red wire-frame graphics and i'll have to.... um, not buy it like i didnt the first time.

Remember that Virtual Boy bombed
But if [the fake "Nintendo On" VR-toaster console] were real, who would NOT buy one?
The same people who didn't buy Nintendo's last VR game system.

Coming next
Coming next from this company is a tiny module that lets you get the blindness and headaches of an Nintendo Virtual Boy without actually having to lug the unit around.

Re:Heaven or Hell?
You mean Gunpei Yokoi, who not only pioneered the Gameboy and the Virtuay Boy, but created such series as Metroid and Kid Icarus. He died in a car accident after having to quit Nintendo in shame over the Virtual Boy debacle.

The next Virtual Boy!
"Neither a console nor a hand-held?" "Not expected to see rounds of applause?"
Must be the next Virtual Boy! -
Re:Gameboy: The DestroyerTrue, but Game Boy's eating of the Virtual Boy was sort of cannibalistic, after all. No joy for Hiroshi Yamauchi in that.
I feel sorry for Gunpei Yoko, he deserved better than that as his swan song. After all, he did create Metroid...
Wow, hey, he was also responsible for the Wonderswan! So, Game Boy, Metroid, Virtual Boy (well, a low point obviously), and Wonderswan... what a career! If only he hadn't had his life tragically cut short.

Re:I did...In addition to the ones you mentioned there was also Teleroboxer, a truly AAA title that unfortunately was doomed to obscurity by being released on this platform. Still, if you can find a copy, that one game is worth buying a $15 Virtua Boy in and of itself.
The aptly misnamed Virtual Boy . Net has a full list of all 22 distinct Virtual Boy games ever released.

Re:Virtual Boy
it wouldn't be that hard to make a strap for it, i believe the tripod stand comes off easily.
check http://www.virtual-boy.org/images/headset.jpg, some guy did it already (no building instructions, just this photo).
