Help promote our WhiteHouse.Gov petition today!
TechFreedom is part of a broad coalition of dozens of groups across the political spectrum are joining in a Day of Action TODAY to drive up the signature count on our WhiteHouse.gov petition: http://wh.gov/lBibY We've got nearly 45k signatures but need to hit 100k by December 12. That's the threshold the WhiteHouse requires for getting a response to a petition. (Remember, they raised it from 50k after that "Please build a Deathstar" petition got 50k.) So please take a moment to sign the petition and share it with your friends! Just use the #ECPA hashtag or reshare or retweet our posts: https://twitter.com/TechFreedom/status/408644380946599937 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=701905029820560&set=a.621919951152402.1073741825.180669971944071&type=1&theater This infographic explains ECPA in more detail: http://tch.fm/IHzTtE

Get rid of guilty-until-proven-innocent legislature for carrying cash. http://wh.gov/Lu1w
Like you, I think we should oust Congress—and I'm comfortable reversing the presumption of innocence for them.
Haha, yes, though you meant to say "legislation" instead.
Civil asset forfeiture is a travesty and no one can with a straight face argue it is constitutional. You might also consider adding a link to fear.org.

There's a whitehouse petition online now to try to curb H1B abuses. Maybe if it wasn't so easy to bring in cheap labor, companies like Google and Motorola might treat their people a little better: http://wh.gov/7BqR

I think this entire issue needs to be looked at by the Attorney General and Federal Trade Commission. The SecureBoot UEFI is nothing more than a form of vendor lock-in, cleverly (or not so much) disguised as a security innovation. Please sign my petition and spread the word: http://wh.gov/wHLq

Technological limitations on unlocking your phone aren't the only questionable business practices of cellular providers. I think we need both legalized unlocking, better billing practices, and limitations on the contracts. That is why I put together http://wh.gov/y6kK. Please take a moment to sign it. Body text follows:
Customers of cellular phone plans in the US are treated poorly. We would like to see regulations that require things like:
1) A bill that reflects the advertised price, and separate line items that show the cost of the phone plan and the phone.
2) A bill that shows the cost of the phone purchased and how much of the phone has been paid off
3) Upon completion of a contract the customer has the right to have any technological restrictions removed that prevent its use on other carriers networks.
4) The right to buy out the phone and terminate the contract at any time.
5) A limit to the terms of contracts allowed.
6) The right to buy a 3rd party phone and join a carriers network with no contractual obligations.

Re:Anonymous because its real...
Tell you what, sign and promote this petition http://wh.gov/EYbi and like the Death Star Petition you'll help get what you ask from the Horses mouth. Otherwise until it actually happens you can look at history of what happened when FDR converted this country from a Republic to a Democracy by riding off the oil industry success and use what I have written here to do your on investigation of the Natural Gas Industry and its infrastructure processing to Liquid Natural gas for exporting. And of course Horizontal drilling & fracking findings if you can find that information. You can be sure Obama knows about it as representitives are pushing him to grant processing and export licenses for it (you should be able to find that. Oh yeah --- http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/d2d2e83c-6721-11e2-a805-00144feab49a.html#axzz2JO4UW2sg
Oh yeah, what is "a happy mean?" it brings the thoughts of the 1% appriciating the 99% helping them.. Am I close?

Spying is not the only problem Twitter is ...
....faced with.
I have found that my tweets have been censored. Any tweet I make with a link do not make it into any hash thread included in the tweet.
It wasn't always like this as there was a time I could and I see people doing it today, so why are my tweets being censored? Here is an example and the nature of my tweet that triggered off this censorship. Oddly enough even the White House petition site (where teh death star petition got near 35,000 signers) provides an option to share the petition link with both facebook and twitter, but its like a Neo and Agent Smith first meeting, what good is such an option if I cannot be seen?
I have wiped my twitter account because of the for what is teh point of being spied on if I cannot defend against?
The example link and nature of my tweets being censored is > http://wh.gov/EYbi #IRS #taxes #taxpayersThat Shortened link is provided by the White House petition site so for the long link https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/provide-each-taxpayer-independent-voice-where-taxes-they-pay-are-be-allocated-and-used-all-tax/cxBlXQht?utm_source=wh.gov&utm_medium=shorturl&utm_campaign=shorturl
So as I said, twitter has more than just government spying issues.

Create Jobs and Increase Wages by Reducing Work Hours and Increasing Vacation Time
Fewer hours per week is obviously the way we'll have to move during the future, but employers don't want to do it. My 62 year old mother has been working 13 out of every 14 days for two months because the company she works for doesn't want to hire additional employees.
This works in favor of employers since, if they force everyone to work overtime, then there are fewer jobs available, which means that whenever anyone complains about wages, work conditions, or work hours, they can point to that stack of applications and say "either do what I say or you're fired." If we limit work hours, then employees will be in demand, which will reverse the situation.
-
Forced overttime, not technology, is killing jobs.
As more of the work that needs to be done is being done by machines, there's less work for humans. The logical thing to happen in this case is that everyone works less and less until the day that all work is done by machines. However, it's beneficial to companies if they continue to force their employees to work 40 hours a week. Indeed, many still see it beneficial to force their employees to work overtime on a regular basis. This works out well for companies since it means they always have a large stack of applications to point at whenever their employees start demanding reasonable pay and reasonable working hours.
Obviously, the ideal thing is to reverse the situation. Have people who currently have jobs work less, and the work they would have done be done by the currently unemployed. This will make it so that employees, and not jobs, are in demand, which will increase wages and decrease unemployment at the same time.
I created a petition to address this issue: http://wh.gov/EKAF
Someone please make it go viral as I have no idea how to do that, and it doesn't become visible on the wh.gov web site until it gets 150 signatures, so even people interested in the idea can't go there and search for such a petition to sign. Instead they have to create their own, which ends up being doomed to the same fate. It's no wonder all of the petitions that make it to 25,000 are just dumb shit created by massive online forums.

Use this as a chance to end the embargo against Cuba.

Then get them to sign my petition!
I wrote this petition the other day, only to find out that before it even becomes visible on the web site, it has to gain 150 signatures. However, I never use Facebook & Twitter, so I can't do as they suggest and use those sites to get people to sign it. I only post on Slashdot, and even here I refuse to register an account, and so no one sees my posts. Perhaps you can help.

Re:Yay! Democrats!
It's been tried already. Just like with anything else that gets enough votes, you'll get a long statement about why everything is already in place, and nothing further will be done.

Re:Digital Bill of Rights
This is why I think we need a digital bill of rights to stop this stuff from happening before it even gets going. I started a petition on the we the people sight. If you agree go sign it! Apparently I need 150 signatures just to get it properly listed. http://wh.gov/XLym
I'd rather focus on getting the government to honor the existing Bill of Rights, than waste time drafting up a new one for them to ignore.
FYI, just because your 'papers' and 'effects' are now digitized, does not mean they are no longer protected by the 4th Amendment. -

Sign that petition if you want to see what the whitehouse says about disbanding the TSA.
Note I did not promise that they'd actually get disbanded.

Re:Fool
We can at least help stop them from getting MORE invasive and let them stagnate for a while. Below is a link to another White House petition to stop TSA from fulfilling their oft-touted plan to expand into rail travel "screening." For many, many reasons, not least of which is the fact that attacks against trains can happen anywhere along the tens of thousands of miles of tracks in the US, TSA screening at train stations is a really, really fucking stupid idea.
"We The People" requires petitions to hit 150 signatures before they're publicly visible. Please consider signing to at least help push it to that point.
(Disclaimer: I created this petition and also submitted it as a Slashdot story - it did not get accepted.)

Site really slow?
I made a petition on the site (to end the corn subsidy) but it takes upwards of 20 seconds to load, which is completely ridiculous. Most people assume it's a dead link.
Of course, this makes it harder to reach the 25,000 necessary in 30 days in order to get a response.... Any thoughts on why it is sooooo slow?

Better Question
Why the hell do only lobbies get legislation that benefits them? It's the PEOPLE who should be getting laws that expand freedom and make OUR lives better. It's time for us to push back, and move this the other way, starting with the Fair Use and Personal Internet Freedom Act - http://wh.gov/K1L

Give Obama a way out
The contention is that since ACTA does not change any laws so it can just be considered an executive agreement and not a treaty. However, the President may have second thoughts on this in light of the poulist anti-SOPA/PIPA movement, the potential for a bribery scandal, and his declarations in favor of Internet freedom.
If Obama does want to dump ACTA, the best way to do it is to sent it to the Senate for ratification. He can do this by paying attention to a petition to do so:
http://wh.gov/KxA
Voluntarily sending ACTA to the Senate for ratification would alienate his Hollywood contributors. In this case he may wait for a law-suit to force the issue, in which case the Supreme Court may need to decide if ACTA needs to be ratified by the Senate. -
The USA still can reject ACTA...
Consider signing the Petition for Obama to Submit ACTA to the Senate for Ratification.
We can defeat ACTA in the USA in the Senate... If we can get ACTA submitted there.
Right now ACTA is only signed via Executive Agreement.
