Save the Enzos! whoops, Teslas started as Lotuses, right? same principle.

Re:Unsafe at any speed (above 100 MPH)...
I think I can help you out.
It's actually a rather common, and well studied occurrence. For instance here's a 70 MPH into a tree car split in half. Many cars have had extremely weak side impact designs for years. It's also one of the hardest things to protect against since there is no crumple zone on the side to absorb energy, unlike the front and back.
I bet across the country there are multiple cars split in half every single day, many from hitting narrow objects like light poles at relatively modest speeds, like 45MPH.

Re:So?
Multiple gasoline cars have spontaneously exploded in fire. Some even after recalls to prevent that.
A single sample here: http://www.wreckedexotics.com/458/458_20101108_3.shtml

SAVE THE ENZOS!
I'm confused, do I go to the Cargo Letter or Airdisaster.com for news on this ?
Guess I should check Wrecked Exotics while I'm at it. -
Re:The problem with safety systems like that
Your typical car doesn't go 200+...
Exotic's that can go that fast typically do have an internal structure like a roll cage, 5 point harness's are common, and they have airbags which racecars don't have. As an example of survivability only about half of these severe accidents with exotics were fatal. -
Re:That bad, eh?
Here's a picture of that one:

Re:Hardware DRM....
Bullshit, here is a story of a guy who crashed an Enzo as 120MPH and walked away without a scratch. In fact in years of reading through wrecked exotics I can only remember a handful of fatalities yet I read about a traffic fatality in my local rag at least monthly.

Re:Gizmondo Crashes, Exec Follows Suit...
Not the crash in question. It's just a neat site.

Re:Ever get cut off by some yuppie jerk
Look at the videos. I just tried to play one, and I was asked to install Zango software. Scary.
(I use Firefox but the videos play in Windows Media Player.) -
Ok. The proof is in the puddin', so to say......

Ever get cut off by some yuppie jerk
driving some ostentatious ride for the tiny-penised, and you secretly wished horrible things upon him? Well now your retribution can be realized--look no further. The wreckedexotics.com site, referenced in the article, is just amazing.

Crashed Enzo
Anyone else think this is the US verison of this guy: http://www.wreckedexotics.com/special/enzo/

Re:Win-Win
Speaking of that crash, this is a link to it.

Huh, cars've been doing this all along!
Albeit, they don't do such a good job of it
And yes, I do have a lot of time on my hands today (I think someone's stealing CPU cycles from my computer to help calculate Bill Gates' taxes...) -
Re:Wimpifying the SUV's and Trucks is not the answ
You should look at http://www.wreckedexotics.com/ (http://www.wreckedexotics.com/corvette/corvette_
0 50902_01.shtml) at their camaros and vettes. You should watch who you park behind ;).
I witnessed an accident where a ford fiesta (colt, sprint, whatever) caught the rear of a brand new Grand Cherokee. The Fiesta caught the rear quarter panel just behind the rear tire after running a stop sign. The Fiesta took a good hit to the hood, but kept driving and pulled over a few feet down. The Cherokee hopped (yes hopped) twice, then rolled completely over to the other side.
I drive a Civic. Defensively. I do not like being behind an SUV, or in front, as I can't see around them. I do not let people drive in my blind spot. I do not let people tailgate. I anticipate trafic changes 3-4 carlengths ahead.
I feel a lot safer in my Civic knowing that I can avoid an accident b/c of its size and agility. I can survive accidents b/c of the airbags and crumplezones. I can survive a rollover (as unlikely as that is).
I have driven larger cars. I have driven a 15 passenger van. I will not buy an SUV b/c they are specifically engineered to NOT meet the requirements of my Civic. -

Re:McLaren F1
For those that want to see:

McLaren are now working with Mercedes to produce the SLR class. Its a mean looking car:

Not everyone is particulary careful with their F1 though:

It's also got some nice Bugatti pics as well :)

Re:So obvious...
Good link, check out this one. Hummer ought to put that in their ads, somehow I think this is really the appeal after all.

So obvious...
"How do you keep a passenger car on the road at 250+ MPH?"
The answer for most people is: you don't. -
I think I found it
Is this your Mercedes

RTFM
So it is a documented feature according to some reactions. Here is somebody that didn't read the manual carefully. According to the accompanying text this driver stepped on the gas instead of the brakes, but my guess is she activated the easter egg.
