While Keyboard Shortcuts is making great strides at being more use accessible it still doesn't hold a candle to how WebStorm handles shortcuts. Namely, what makes Webstorm great is that you can *search* ALL of the UI for hotkeys / shortcuts and it shows ALL the menu locations for partial matches.

It is little wonder why Mac is a developers dream machine. They are no longer a threat at the server level, Linux has won that war. They interact with Microsoft rather well but they really shine in *NIX environments. Since the cloud is running Unix/Linux and Docker is making great strides using Container technology. Running Windows Servers delivering C# Client/Server, Middleware, makes little sense. The whole world is moving to tiny optimized cloud based virtual machines running virtual networking, etc. Linux lets you strip out all the extraneous junk to build a very optimized machine for a single purpose such as a database, email, etc. The savings on wasted RAM/Storage/CPU, etc. is huge. The cloud platforms can burst CPU dynamically, etc.

When I studied CompSci we had some real fun when a professor once tried to demonstrate a modem connection. He had loads of arcane option screens that all had to be set in the same settings as the guy on the other end had. The guy in the building next door, I might add. After 30 minutes he gave up :)

It is a bit too early to make feature-by-feature comparisons, since you'd be comparing green apples to ripe oranges. RStudio has been out for several years; RTVS is in its first public pre-release, it's not even feature complete yet.

So, for the most part, RStudio can currently do more. But there are exceptions already. Some of it stems from piggy-backing on top of VS, such as multi-language support - you can have a .cpp file in your R project, and you will get the usual VS editing experience for it, with syntax highlighting, completion etc.

Some of it is product-specific features, such as Variable Explorer (in RStudio, the same thing is called Environment). Have a look at this video, starting from 2:12 on. Notice how you can drill down into children of values without limitation - in RStudio, you're limited to a single level. Or, in the same video, note how the REPL has syntax highlighting for R code.

More of both - more product-specific features and improvements, and better integration with the rest of VS and other languages in it (esp. C++) - will be coming in the future.

I think everyone who's even remotely into hobby electronics knows what the ESP8266 is. They would also know that it has a tiny TINY microcontroller which can only run rudimentary code on it and puts it more in line with a WiFi dongle than anything else on your list.
