Re:The reality is rather different
Before the election, people mocked me when I said that they should support Trump as one of our last chances to come to a peaceful resolution before facing Powell's rivers of blood. People who refused to even listen to the religious right are now horrified by the post-religious right. Those that have turned to street violence against the nationalists are unable to see the ultra-nationalists that will follow if the people are not able to work things out.
Thanks to the antifa, these are no longer fringe ideas. I hear them from workers, from retirees, from middle class professionals, from farmers, from laborers, and now from you, you random
/. stranger. And onlookers hearing them for the first time no longer look shocked.. -

Re: The media is
No, there's a lot more to it than that
Nope, just more hysterical partisan bullshit.
and I suggest you do more reading
I suggest you try and find an old copy of the Clinton Chronicles on VHS, where Republicans accused the Clintons of everything from having Arkansas state police run drugs to having people murdered. Actually, you can skip the VHS since it popped up on Youtube in the same Google search - and you can see those deranged Birchers using the exact same "where there's smoke, there's fire" argument Democrats are aiming at Trump right now.
If you look at what Russia did in the Ukraine before they invaded it,
You mean gave Ukraine a cheap gas deal and a low interest loan free of any of the IMF's austerity-crushing provisions? And Russia hasn't invaded shit. Years of accusations pulled from Right Sector Ukrainian accounts, but not a single satellite photo showing Russian troops. This subject is a lose-lose for western exceptionalists, because even if Russia did invade Ukraine, it would be a million times more justified as the U.S. overthrew the Ukrainian government. It's not like the U.S. would sit by with its thumb up its ass, if the USSR overthrew the government of Canada after Russia extended the Warsaw Pact around U.S. borders.
but for the people charged with keeping the country secure, they need to step up and ask the tough questions
Wow. Was that said in your best Charlie Sheen "winning!" voice? No, what's happening now is that there is no evidence to support Russian hacking and there never was. Which would mean that the media and almost all of the Democratic party were going to have to admit they were hysterical McCarthyist shitbags.
Well, we couldn't have that, now could we? So now they're trying to find nefarious connections and whining when people start taking the 5th in response to a witch hunt. It's a direct mirror of what Republicans did in the 90's - spend a hundred million dollars investigating the Clintons on everything from Whitewater to drug running to murdering Vince Foster. It all turned to bullshit in their hands, so rather than admit to being asshole witch hunters, they settled on a manufactured sexual perjury charge. Which Clinton wasn't even guilty of using the court's definition of "sexual relations."
That's what Democrats are doing. Finally getting some revenge on a Republican president for all the nonsense they went through 20 years ago. Except they became what they hated in the process.

Re:They learned it from the USA
The KGB were the real professionals in culture destruction. The idea was to hollow out your enemy from the inside by fanning the flames of dissent and division in their own people. They would then turn themselves over or be weakened internally so much the Red Army could kick in the door. Defector Yuri Berezmov explains in this eye-opening video. This is not some James Bond weirdness, they really did this crap. The American propaganda at the same period was largely ineffectual. The Polish workers were helped by Pope John Paul the Great more than anything. In the West, anyone could spread information but in the Eastern Bloc copy machines were under lock and key.

Beating the drums of war
There is a faction on the US government that is super enthusiastic for a war with Russia. I have no idea what they think they're going to accomplish but this is just the latest development. They keep painting Russia as this malevolent force that's behind every rock and tree. It's like the Simpsons' Maude Flanders: "Won't someone think of the children!" I think part of it is trying to distract from the obvious issues that Western elites are corrupt and do NOT have our best interests at heart.
Just think: if they weren't engaged in skullduggery, the Russians would have nothing. The screeching over Hillary was excruciating. Instead of addressing the issues, the solution was to make accusations. A Clinton win would have been pretty disastrous for the world, and I believe we would have probably seen a war between Russia and the US during her term. The US and Russia are already fighting a proxy war in Syria, and you only have to look at Clinton's rhetoric in the lead up to the election (no-fly zones over Syria, Russians are hacking US infrastructure, cyber attacks on infrastructure are grounds for going to war etc), and look at the fact that she was receiving public and financial support from various war-mongering neocons to realize that things were not looking good. I don't know how Trump will end up, but at least the people and companies who stood to make the most money from war were not supporting him - and in fact were actively opposed to him.
Russia has a terrible position. They are outnumbered 3:1 by the Europeans alone, without any help from the US. They are ringed by US bases. They have a huge border to defend. Russia is a paper tiger. Think about who's telling you they're a huge threat: what do they have to gain? Remember the mainstream media can't be trusted, they have an agenda and during the election they abandoned their role as truth-tellers. We all saw it. That's a bigger threat to our democracy than any foreign enemy. And what do you do when you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar? Blame the foreigners. It's a solution as old as the hills.

You can say that again. Antifa tactics closely resemble Nazi tactics, right down to marching in public with brown shirts while carrying firearms. And they pretty much label anybody who isn't with them as their enemy.

Re:Let it return to the dark ages
Politicians care about themselves and their ability to remain in power. If they can kill soldiers and remain in power, they will do so. If they can ignore a health crisis and remain in power, they will do so. If they can drag their feet while pretending to address an issue, they will do so. If, however, an issue directly affects them, they'll rapidly act to address it.
To show that this hasn't changed for hundreds of years, I give you The Great Stink of 1858. (WARNING: Do not watch while eating.)

Re:Technology moves forwardA while back, I drove a friend's 1968 Mustang GT (302 motor, 230 HP). It was exciting, but the suspension was crude, making it difficult to keep it between the ditches when you really stomped the gas. Frankly, I think the car tried to kill about three times in a half a block. Modern vehicles, even with twice the horsepower, are much better behaved. Hell, my six cylinder 2016 Chevrolet Colorado has just over 300 HP and it's a pussycat, even when you turn all of the ponies loose. Granted it's got more wheelbase than that classic Mustang, but it is a light-in-the-ass-end pickup. Traction control and 21st century shocks make a bit of a difference.
As for exhaust note at idle, for my money, nothing tops this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?... Granted, it takes a few tries to get 'em all lit, but when all 28 (yes, 28) cylinders are firing, there's nothing like it.

Re:Technology moves forward
You probably meant radial, not rotary, as a rotary engine would be damn near impossible to fit into a car since the whole thing's spinning around. As for radial engines in road-going vehicles, that's already been done. There have even been radial-engined motorcycles built.
