Re: More proof
it would be puerile to dismiss those folks as "assholes"
Not GP, and not the other AC who started this subthread, but I'm gonna jump in.
No, I disagree with that. I say it is naive to remain polite all the time. Being a mature adult doesn't mean you can't get indignant about issues you care about, and it doesn't mean you can't express that with some harsher words.
Many of them were doubtless fairly pleasant people in their daily lives.
I'm sure they are. Doesn't mean that on *this* particular topic they're being assholes about it.
calm and rational discussion can be an effective way to deal with individual racists
I agree, but what I disagree on is that you cannot have that with a few strong words in your language.
For reference, see George Takei's response to a homophobic school board member:

Re:Not shocked at all
They may be in different market categories, but they solve precisely the same transportation problem,
Roughly speaking, perhaps. You're forgetting the luxury and performance parts I think. The performance of Teslas are quite insane in short races - they peak quickly, but they reach that peak insanely fast. Stuff like beating a race car while towing said race car:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
(okay, so it's a Tesla model X, not a S)The S 90D w/ 19" rims (not sure precisely where that stands in the Tesla lineup)
It's their premium non-performance car. The 90 means that it has a 90kWh battery, and the lack of a "P" means that it's not a performance edition, which is a little less efficient, but much more powerful. The D means that it's all wheel drive.
They're getting ready to come out with 100kWh batteries, which would be designated with model numbers like "S 100D", "S P100D"
The reason why the S70 would take longer is that the 70kWh battery isn't capable of taking a charge as quickly as a 90. Also, if I remember right, it only has half the internal chargers of the 85 and up models, which also limits the speed at which it can charge.
Eh, here's the ultimate deal, I think: Tesla has developed battery swap technology where you drive over the system and it swaps your battery for a fully charged unit(and can put a larger battery on to boot, so it can take off a 70kWh battery and put in a 90kWh one for your long drive), in ~90 seconds. However, among actual owners not enough interest has materialized to get Tesla to install them. They'd prefer to use the free superchargers than pay for a battery swap.
My uses for a car are infrequent trips to places nearby (Dr, dentist, etc) and long road trips,
That's fine. Not everybody takes long road trips.

Re:Famous words...
Since when is your ignorance a fact?
You can build a PC for less than the cost of what the PS4 was at launch that outclasses it and the XBox One in every way. And most AAA console games are "not" hitting 60fps on consoles, not the titles that try to match what a lower-end PC can push. Try 20 - 30 fps at a detail level that is generally low to medium.
If you spend $800-$900, you can build a 1070 based system. Last year it was a 970 based system( which push 90 fps at 1200p btw.). Both systems greatly outclass any current console and I doubt MS or Sony's mid-cycle-updates will even be up to the spec of last year's mid-range PCs. If you build a PC, you get a computer, something that can be upgraded, a TOOOL, and of course a great-gaming-platform, not just a TV-toy( that can't be upgraded and will be obsolete out of the box. )
Here's a quick search on info for building an inexpensive PC that outclasses a console:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
It's 2016 and it's easy to price out a PC and reference its performance. Please educate yourself and stop spreading more console ignorance. But then again, that would go against your beliefs and make it harder for you to spread misinformation? -

Re:Just another "me too!"
The camera's mega-pixel count did sound high, but those numbers are nearly meaningless w/o the quality optics and image sensors to make those huge images actually look good.
Earlier they made(?) and used sensors with high pixel count even though you could save the pictures at a lower resolution, but it still gave better details (also normal CCD processors doesn't catch all colors per pixel but the colors in a grid even though the final resulting image has all colors in one pixel so the output data doesn't match the input data there and with a higher original resolution you shrink the errors there relative the output pixel / get better averages.)
I don't know if someone else (one?) did use a similar camera solution. I don't know if they actually developed the sensors themselves / had them made for them and if so if they still do.
At-least from a historical perspective it could be the case that their camera was one of the very best / the best used in a device of that kind.
I think I would say the iPhone 5 have a better quality image than the Lumia 1020 here:
http://www.technobuffalo.com/w...
Maybe lower dynamic range here?
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/qaV5N_Z...5s doing well here too:
http://www.windowscentral.com/...I remember some images back when were I thought the Nokia phone was better though, was it against iphone 4 and some pre-Lumia phone?
Here, Nokia N8 vs iPhone 4:
http://mynokiablog.com/2010/10...White balance seem better on the iPhone 4 than the Nokia N8:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...Place of origin matter in that if it's a rebranded Chinese phone with Nokia software or so then it can't really beat what it is based on in hardware and differ from what others have access to whereas if it was Nokia made it could be both worse and better. It at-least leave room for the possibility of it being special/different/better (Then again the likelyhood of Nokia releasing a better phone than Apple or Samsung considering R&D funds available

Would you install brain-cyberware (brainware)?
I wouldn't.
Just think of the implications. Imagine some evil terrorist hacker or just some bored teen with to much time on his hands messing with your brain and turning you into a suicide bomber or having you running around naked downtown on a saturday morning, screeming, singing and cussing at the top of your voice, just for the kicks of it.
The fight with brain-hacked loser scene in GitS is cool, but the interrogation scene that follows is pretty emotional and scary. In my opinion though it pretty precisely shows what a society with brainware is in for.
No f*cking way would I have such a thing installed.

In other news
In other news the American recovery is strong, inflation is low and unemployment is down, report various government and 'independent' sources. Vote Hillary, she is like Obama (if Obama wore a skirt... Sorry, pant suit..) These 20000 will only reduce the net unemployment numbers once they are no longer with Cisco but instead are working 2-3 service sector jobs, serving coffee in the morning, greeting at your local Walmart
.... Or maybe digging and filling up government ditches, since even coffee shops and Walmart jobs are getting cut. Why don't we all just continue voting collectivist, be it fascist or socialist, it worked so great up until now?Or maybe people should try something novelle this time, like a little freedom from government "helping everybody".

Re:And when Trump says the same thing, it's an out
Your right to vote comes from the fact that you are a citizen of the United States, and not from the possession of any type of ID.
Totally agree. Now, how do I know that you are a citizen of the United States if I can't check your ID? Sure, we checked that you were a citizen when you registered, but how do I know that you are who you claim to be? See: US Attorney General Eric Holder's Ballot to Vote Offered to Total Stranger
If you couple the possession of an ID to the right to vote, then the ID has to be provided to every citizen of the United States without any further restrictions. The possession of the ID can not be a priviledge, otherwise it would run afoul the right to vote.
Totally agree. This is why states that passed voter ID laws also changed their laws to allow citizens to get free IDs. A cursory google search reveals the process for getting free ID's from Alabama, Wisconsin, and North Carolina.
We keep telling those pesky activist judges that simple fact, but they continue to ignore it.

Re:Learning language
In human language the apparent ambiguity is usually resolved with context and programming languages can also have statements that need context to be resolved. See also logos naki world https://youtube.com/results?q=... The song has meaningless sounds designed to trick the hearer into resolving them into words.
I am also working on constructing a programming language thst incorporates as many features as can be implemented together of all existing programming languages. You can use DO as an instruction to begin a loop in one subroutine and as a variable in another as long as certain scoping rules are followed and most ambiguity in human language is resolved in a similar fashion. -
Re: interstellar mission
Please explain the tech that we've had since to 50's to allow any complex machine (such as a nuclear reactor) to work unattended for 50 years.
So just to clarify, your argument as to why human beings cannot even travel as far as Proxima Centauri a mere 4 ly away is that our machines are not reliable enough? Seriously that is your argument? Voyager 1 has been operating for nearly 39 years without a problem. Yes it's RTG is winding down but it was never intended to be a true interstellar mission. A longer lasting power supply could have been built even back in 1977. And incidentally that was 1970s tech. Presumably we could build something even more reliable now with all the fancy new tech we have. We could even build an unmanned ship with a robot like this inside to at least try to maybe do some crude repairs. Yes a human onboard would be a huge advantage in terms of reliability, but there are also huge advantages to not having any delicate humans onboard.

Re:Twitter is pro-Free Speech ? REALLY ??
inciting looting / violence is okay in Twitter's book but calling people out for it isn't okay. While I respect your argument it's not point in fact, there's too many getting banned and filtered along with trending hashtags that disappear for no reason other than they may seem unpopular with Liberals. There's already been known left-leaning abuse in other social media platforms, it's documented and even good old Google being involved in it as well, I just think it's time for Twitter to come out and say "We support violence and rioting but we don't support conservative ideals." Sure there's hyperbole on both sides of it but if you're going to advocate free speech without hate at least you should proclaim your biases.

Re:Curious, he stopped being a PoC
Here's some of what Google turned up for "celebration simpson verdict".
Law school reactions, filmed at American University with hearsay (not documented with video) reports from Howard University.
This video of the crowd reaction from outside the Los Angeles County Superior Court might be characterized as partying in the streets, but seems restricted to a few enthusiastic individuals (some of whom are not black).
Thinking more on this, I do think the Simpson case is relevant to Chahal's in cultural terms, but I'm not convinced race played a positive or negative factor in Chahal's.

I don't recall a domestic abuser of color (i.e. non-white) whose undeserved exoneration led to "parties in the street that the charges have been dropped". (This is ignoring the fact that Chahal has not been exonerated.)
Oh, come on! There's even a 'Root Window' animator for one such abuser.
I'm aware that there have been accused abusers of colors who have been exonerated.
My question in this particular instance would be "Did Simpson's exoneration (mistaken in my opinion) lead to 'parties in the street'?" I don't recall such celebrations happening.
If such celebrations in the street did not happen, my question for you would be why bring up the Simpson case at all. Why?
Like the grandparent, I believe your statements attribute exoneration with racial privilege, but I think this is wrong in Simpson's specific case. Exoneration was achieved in Simpson's case due to the O.J. Simpson's (and to a lesser extent Johnnie Cochran's) celebrity status. A lesser reason O.J. Simpson was exonerated (in my opinion) is due to sexism against Nicole Brown-Simpson.
In other words, from the perspective of race, if Simpson had been convicted it would have been because he was black. If Simpson had been exonerated (as he in fact was) it would have been because he was black.

It's not just the fact checkingThe problem with news outlets isn't just the fact-checking. Although I agree with you it's important. I'd be willing to pay for stories carrying the label: "this story has been fact-checked and all reported statements either check out as true or have been marked as unconfirmed". Unfortunately It's also the selection and filtering of news.
Compare for example the stories on Fox news with those CNN for a day. I do that once in a while and I get the distinct impression they're reporting on different worlds.
Fox News for example reports everything that might possible be used to call global warming into question (and omits everything that supports it), and goes on and on and on about Mrs. Clinton's emails. And stubbornly try to pin blame on her for the attack on the US embassy in Benghazi. They've put it firmly into their minds that it's their job to spin those affairs out, keep them alive (at least until the elections), and milk them for all they're worth. Fact-checking Mrs. Clinton seems to be limited to one main subject: emails. Fox News commenting on Mrs. Clinton seems to focus on emails. Did I mention that Fox News seems to be particularly interested in her emails?
When it comes to Mr. Trump, Fox News steadfastily refuses to fact-check or to criticise him (well
... I can understand that: look what he did to Megyn Kelly and how he boycotted Fox News). No critical comment on Mr. Trump's allegations that Mrs. Clinton "plans to abolish the second amendment". No comment on his claims of seeing "secret footage" of cash-for-prisoners deals. No comment on his allegations that Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton "founded ISIS". Even less (if possible) critical review of Mr. Trump's allegations that Mr. Obama is a "weak president" as far as ISIS is concerned. No comment on his mean-spirited dissing of the Khan's. No comment on his brinkmanship-like ramblings about leaving Nato (great move now that Russia is re-emerging as an aggressive power and EU countries are getting worried) and leaving Japan to fend for itself. Then CNN. Lots of different topics being covered every day. But each time Mr. Trump ventilates some blatant, glaring untruth or a snide insinuation it's reported on CNN. Is that bias? Could be. It would be mine if I had to report. Does Mrs. Clinton come off scot-free? I shouldn't think so. The development of her email story is duly reported.
As a matter of fact, continued exposure to Fox News can be harmful to one's mental health. See e.g. http://www.thebrainwashingofmy... .
For a victim in an advanced state of over-exposure, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re:Odd...
Apparently flying spy planes over Russia is also not an act of war, but if Russia did the same thing would it be equally acceptable?
And they've blown a U-2 out of the air. Apparently you know very little about how the game is played.
It is also interesting how often we hear about "Russian incompetence" and "close calls" but not so much about US incompetence, lost weapons, accidents, etc.
Uhm.. it has it has been documented. I know somebody involved in one of the incidents, and his career didn't go very far after the fuckup... but then again, I get it: you just want to piss and moan about the US.
So, nowadays we have a re-emboldened Russia fucking around in Crimea and Ukraine knocking on Europe's door (make no mistake, a Western Europe with no US-backed NATO would be absolutely fucked), and China constructing artificial islands in the South China Sea.
Here's my attitude, motherfucker: you can't handle the truth.

Re: Does this surprise anyone???
Firstly, no they don't, not all of them for sure, and secondly, well that makes things a lot harder to distinguish especially as "women with an unusual kind of voice" is almost certainly a larger category than trans women (which is a pretty small category). Deep voice is not much of a distinguishing factor. Funny thing I've noticed is that women in male dominated environments tend to have deeper voices, and the reverse is true too. Mostly, I put it down to the rather generic thing of humans tending to imitate the group.
No, that's not what I said. It's not a deeper voice at all, rather it's a voice similar to what a prepubescent teenage male would sound like, only a little more raspy, much like a kazoo, without necessarily having any deepening. In fact it sounds very close to this: (But this is missing that "kazoo" sound.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
(A funny note on that: Once I saw a youtube video that showed an FtM trans who was claiming to be more of a man than Justin Beiber, which doesn't seem like a hard thing to do.)
But that's just the ones who never had a naturally deep voice, and again, some real women sound similar to this (Ann Coulter for example) but not *quite* the same, and you sometimes have to listen to them speak for a while to tell the difference. The ones who do have a naturally deep voice however are even more raspy, and/or try to cover it up with a fake lisp, and/or pick up mannerisms that black girls tend to use.
