Re:Opportunity to sow seeds of discontent?
Could this be an opportunity for South Korea (or any other western government) to send their own daily propaganda text messages to phones in NK?
Why bother? If you want to spread propaganda (or other information) to poor people, radio is the ideal medium. Small radios that can receive AM/MW signals are what westerners would consider nearly free, and MW signals can propagate hundreds of miles. In fact for those near the broadcast can put together AM/MW radios from any scraps of wire, dismantling a pair of headphones is ideal (see: Foxhole Radio).

Re:Um, yeah
*Actually* preparing for a zombie apocalypse should get you placed an some other lists as well.
Out of the Zombie Preparedness groups, you *might* have a handful of people who are actually preparing for that. Zombies is to keep it humorous.
Our goal is to educate the public about the importance of personal preparedness and self reliance, to increase its readiness to respond to disasters such as Earthquakes, Floods, Terrorism or Zombie Outbreaks. We want to make sure you are prepared for any crisis situation that might come along in your daily life which may include having your face eaten by the formerly deceased.

So: Exactly what the Zombie Squad has been promoting for years?
-
Re:Maybe I just don't have a sense of humor...
The point is to raise awareness regarding preparedness for real-world disasters like floods and tornados. The zombie stuff is a fun metaphor.
Zombie Squad is a private group that does the same thing, and probably inspired the CDC's blog post.

Re:EVERYBODY PANIC!!
Let me just take a moment to promote a site I just found online that mixes tasteless humor with actually serious disaster preparedness. Video content such as the Bug Out Bag, for example, is educational and fun. Thanks for listening and
... don't be eaten by zombies!P.S. Anyone know the shelf life of shotgun shells?

Re:Aging is a disease
That's when we call in the Zombie Squad and pretend the hungry ones are zombies.

Re:Oh great...
Thank you. I had never read up on the Bonus Army... Wikipedia shat me out somewhere around Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after an hour.
I agree that without the second amendment, the rest of the Bill of Rights is toilet paper. I own guns, but not because I aim to overthrow the steenkin' guv'ment with them. I am a gun owner because I want to be able to protect my family and myself from anyone who intends us harm, be it zombies, criminals or my congressman (but I repeat myself). The simple fact of the matter is that when it absolutely, positively needs to be killed, a fistfull of .30 carbine delivered by Mr. Ruger is your best bet. -
Re:But wait!
Most departments only allow semi-auto rifles except for the el1te units. Besides you have to aim for the head and full-auto is to keep their heads down and stop massed attacks.
Zombies don't duck.

Zombocalypse!
Boy if this doesn't sound like the beginnings of a real-life zombie infestation!

Re:Um No.
I belong to an online survival community (http://zombiehunters.org/) that also does a lot of activities in meat space. From that community, I find your observation to be right on the money. Many of the members are white collar information technology professionals who found the site because of books and movies such as The Zombie Survival Guide and Dawn of the Dead. Once they showed up and saw that the people on the board were discussing real work activities that interested them: hunting, fishing, gear, alternative housing, alternative energy and so on, they stuck around.

Re:Zombies!
actually I think These Guys may be more useful. Remember they are the world's premier non-stationary cadaver supression task force!.

Re:"Where" is unimportant
Actually, the people in 28 Days Later were not zombies, they were humans infected with a Virus.
All true zombies are as seen in the "of the Dead" series. Although some current theories show that these zombies are in fact caused by the Solanum virus, conclusive evidence still remains to be seen.
It should be noted that, regardless of your situation, you should not attempt to fight a zombie unless absolutely necessary. Remember, should a zombie outbreak occur near your place of residence you should immediately relocate to a rural area. Avoid common motorways and if possible travel by bicycle or motorcycle.
For more information, see The Zombie Survival Guide or check out The Official Zombie Hunters Website
Remember, preperation is key.
