Ant Farm PC
secolactico writes "This has got to be the coolest case mod I've come across. An ant farm in your PC case. Too bad there are no pics of the case actually on a working PC. It'd be interesting to observe the effect that the temperature and vibration of an operating PC would have on the ants."
why does simpsons come to mind?
Im picturing homer in space when the ants get loose in the space ship.
Selling software wont make you money, selling a service will.
Can you imagine a Beowulf cluster of these? Talk about a nightmare...
Any other Terry Pratchett fans around here reminded of Hex, the ant-powered computer (of Unseen University)?
:-)
Now, THAT would be cool. To overclock, just add caffeine to the water supply

*groan*
Let's fill up the case with internal strobe lights and other various case mod lights and see if ants can have seizures!

(O.o) This is Bunny. (> <)
No, I don't want to imagine a beowulf cluster of these babies, especially if the ants managed to get out and infest my room.
Nothing from nowhere I'm no one at all
If it breaks open, just smack open a mac lined with ant eaters.

Overclocked Watercooled Ants?
Do they work faster with higher bus speeds?

How is this news? Microsoft has been helping create systems with bugs in them for well over a decade now! Old news.
Someone's actually managed to make a Windows PC where the buggiest thing about it isn't the operating system.

If it were Unix, the ants would all ignore anything unexpected, even if that meant walking into it repeatedly.
... it's a cool idea, but I think I'll wait for the final. It looks a bit buggy.
::ducks::
people said that Linux wasn't ready for your ants and uncles...
Windows XP SP2 told me to install third-party software that prevents viruses and protects stability... I chose Ubuntu
you'd need tropical fish

The Piranha PC would indeed be a neat mod.

It'd be interesting to observe the effect that the temperature and vibration of an operating PC would have on the ants.
What's the point. Everyone knows all we really want to do it whip out the old magnifying glass. Hehe.
A programmer is a machine for converting coffee into code.
Practical Use: Obtain several radio-controlled cars. Attach a crude spark-gap high voltage coil to each. Drive the cars around the countryside gathering a swarm of fire ants. Make a red skin-tight costume (don't forget the cape), practice your "evil laugh" and TAKE OVER!
The ANTMASTER will make you cry "UNCLE!"
And his PUNS are every bit as torturous as his fire-ant swarm!

When ants take over the earth, we'll all wish that we had listened to you.
As a physicist and a biologist, I can confirm that it will fuck them up.

The opening is how the ants get their food
Um, how does that work? Is it that the ants leave the colony through that big wide opening and look for food around the floor of your workspace?
Huh?
been done... but more naturally... rember the ibook ant farm?
Remember this?
No...then you have chowder.

Those buggers can kill humans, not to mention chew through plastic.
There should be no problem with the normal varieties that don't break out and carry off young children.
"Protect the Queen!" "Which one's the Queen?" "I'm the queen!" "no you're not!" On a serious note... if the critters get loose in your case, how well do mobos react to ants?
Clearly, all records must have disappeared in the los alamos fires, and the surviving scientists have all gone mad, or expired. Everyone has forgotten! The nation MUST BE WARNED!
"It'd be interesting to observe the effect that the temperature and vibration of an operating PC would have on the ants."
'nuff said.
today is spelling optional day.
Well I won't be impressed until I see an Apple case mod with a worm farm inside.
:ducks

actually, erm, 10% of that 25% of the 70% that hasn't had its ecosystem seriously impacted due to over-fishing...

Imagine a beowulf clusteAAArrrrrgggghhhhh Get Them Off Of Me!!!
Downsize DC Today!
Think about it. Bees don't like their hive to get too hot, cos then they all die. So, if it does they station a whole bunch of workers on the outside and get them to flap their little chitinous wings to cool it all down. It's a self cooling case!
Admittedly the bees buzzing all the time might be louder than an overclocked AMD with an ill chosen fan, but you have to admit; it would be a unique case mod. And you get honey!
So, is a self-cooling-honey producing-beehive case a great idea or what?

I would like a screen mod with an ant farm!
An extra glass in front of the screen. Some sand in the bottom, almost covering the taskbar panel. And ants crawling over the windows, chasing the mouse pointer.
Creepy!

And there I was thinking worms were a bad thing to have in your computer...

make sure you check video!
The ants here in Texas don't mind the summer heat, so I doubt an AMD case would be much different.
Actually it might be nicer since at least they get a breeze from the fans.
if only it was so simple to remove software bugs

Shouldn't the topic be "bugs"?
So *that's* why there was a hammerhead shark in my PC case the other day. I wondered how he got in there.
My beliefs do not require that you agree with them.
ewww, dude.
Aptal soru yoktur; sadece merakli aptallar vardir.
God kills a hundred ants.
I lived in Waianae, on the leeward coast of Oahu. Our house was on a farmlot way back in Waianae valley. At any one time, we had several hundred geckos in and around the house.
I liked 'em, but they creeped out Chisa, my roommate's daughter. She would get her revenge when they crawled on the outside of the window screens. She'd flick the screen with her finger, and the litl' guys would go sailing off into the night.
The worst part about geckos is that the males love to fight each other. They also like to crawl on the ceiling. Did I mention I sleep with my mouth open?
Nothing like waking up to find a pissed off, defeated male gecko in your mouth.
